- STKD, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16"Apple files patent for _____"
(Write your own digg story template.)
I'm betting "circles" will be next on the list of things Apple tries to patent. - zionKing, on 10/12/2007, -2/+13this isn't the only patent revealed today. the second patent, "Apple files patent for an audio interface for the iPod", is interesting especially when considered in tandem with this wireless iTunes purchasing patent. You could tell your apple cellphone you want to buy a song without taking your eyes off the road and own it a few seconds later. Very cool.
That audio-driven patent is described here: http://www.macsimumnews.com/index.php/archive/apple_files_patent_for_an_audio_interface_for_the_ipod/ - nsummy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Is it just me or is this obvious? You can buy a million things over your cell phone: games, ringtons, apps. Why would you patent buying a song over a cell phone?
- pr3d4t0r, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4They still haven't tried this yet: http://www.theonion.com/content/node/29130
- radu79, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wow, so innovative and non obvious. I mean, who was able to buy ringtones using their cellphone before Apple patented this?
And who was able to use their PDA or Smartphone browser to buy stuff online, including songs and media?
It's good we have Apple to research such new technology.
And it's even better we have the Apple fanboys who will try their best to mod down comments against apple, and pull the stories that are negative to Apple off the main page. - Atomic1fire, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2apple pattents human amazement and brain control technologys
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2my guess is that they are doing it in a unique way, different than current technology. But then again, after others have tried to beat them to the patent of products they designed, maybe they are just being careful.
- mooninite, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Why is this "very cool?"
I've been able to download files off my cell phone for many a years. I guess Apple will come after me to get their patent money? Why do we need a patent for downloading zeros and ones? - geekee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So Apple's trying to patent a PDA? It's already been invented. And when Apple finally makes their iPod into a full blown PDA, people will say they were the first to do it, and that's what they wanted all along, not a separate mp3 player.
- YVRSteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1..sent to your apple media server (at home) ..
- rasterbator, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2iPhone… coming to a Christmas near you.
- Darrelc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm pretty sure that lots of companies allow you to buy music / ringtones over cell phones and stuff. I know that orange/virgin runs a service where you can stream/buy music.
And three especially, you can buy videos / music over the air with them

I'm digging this though as its a very well written, comprehensive article, which is more than I can say for most "apple patent" stories.
-Darrel - etx313, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2They most definitely hold the patent for keeping their users dumb.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's ***** amazing!! Should catch Microsoft and a few others off guard. (my shares just giggled)
- paredwse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Don't get excited, one of the first PDAs on the market was Apple-branded.
Remember the Newton? - fatcat, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2coughiPhonecough
apple is trying to control the portables industry, i have no problem with that , but then again i am an apple fanboy - YVRSteve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1this is a proxy purchasing device. what this would allow is for you to buy that movie to watch for tonight .. the movie is then sent to your apple media service, and is there when you get home from work. note .. the client is not receiving the media.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Your idea has a certain ring to it :) I'm awaiting this device, because despite its popularity the(my) Razr V3 is a piece of crap!!!
- Spastastic, on 10/12/2007, -8/+7If microsoft released a highly popular mp3 player that took up a large percentage of the MP3 market, then I'm sure the response would be the same. However since they haven't no one would give a *****.
- Jakub81, on 10/12/2007, -14/+13OMG, Apple patented an "invention" - purchasing a song - Very cool! I wonder what would people say if it would be Microsoft.
- diafel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Another day, another Apple patent. Unless I see their exciting new product on the front page of Apple.com I don't care.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1good idea, now if they can only get cingular to jump on it (since cingular wants to support itunes on its phones, but yet has no place to download full songs) ......
- rusty_g, on 10/12/2007, -25/+7this is old dude..
