- bradkovach, on 07/16/2008, -6/+21My favorite MobileMe feature is where it blocks Firefox 3 on Linux because it's an "Unsupported Browser."
- djcap, on 07/16/2008, -1/+13Well, everybody gets 30 extra days. I really like the service so far.
- davidwasman, on 07/16/2008, -1/+13Apple just sent everyone the following email:
We have recently completed the transition from .Mac to MobileMe. Unfortunately, it was a lot rockier than we had hoped.
Although core services such as Mail, iDisk, Sync, Back to My Mac, and Gallery went relatively smoothly, the new MobileMe web applications had lots of problems initially. Fortunately we have worked through those problems and the web apps are now up and running.
Another snag we have run into is our use of the word "push" in describing everything under the MobileMe umbrella. While all email, contact or calendar changes on the iPhone and the web apps are immediately synced to and from the MobileMe "cloud," changes made on a PC or Mac take up to 15 minutes to sync with the cloud and your other devices. So even though things are indeed instantly pushed to and from your iPhone and the web apps today, we are going to stop using the word "push" until it is near-instant on PCs and Macs, too.
We want to apologize to our loyal customers and express our appreciation for their patience by giving all current subscribers an automatic 30-day extension to their MobileMe subscription free of charge. Your extension will be reflected in your account settings within the next few weeks.
We hope you enjoy your new suite of web applications at me.com, in addition to keeping your iPhone and iPod touch wirelessly in sync with these new web applications and your Mac or PC.
Thank you,
The MobileMe Team - Wailord, on 07/16/2008, -2/+13Don't feed the troll, people.
- emanaydin, on 07/16/2008, -0/+11http://www.apple.com/mobileme/
- Palaceguard, on 07/16/2008, -3/+12Then why aren't you commenting in the backberry forums instead of the apple section?
- digiguy, on 07/16/2008, -1/+8And Digg have a filter to filter out Apple stories. This is digg's news.
- kiensoy, on 07/16/2008, -5/+12MobileMeh for me until is cheaper. $100 a year is too freaking expensive.

Linux isn't supported, so that's why you get the incompatible browser error. - justinviger, on 07/16/2008, -0/+6Now I feel stupid buying both the iPhone and MobileMe on my wages.
- MacParrot, on 07/16/2008, -0/+5It's still waiting to be pushed?
- batmanz, on 07/16/2008, -7/+12I thought it 'just works'???!?!?
- davidwasman, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4Sorry for the double post, but I thought it worth mentioning that even free users get a 30 day extension.
- MacParrot, on 07/16/2008, -0/+4Yes this proves that Apple sometimes can bite off more than they can chew. This proves two things:
1. Apple most likely should have taken a more layered approach. Perhaps rolling out MobileMe a few months ago and working out the bugs, then being more prepared for the online onslaught when the new iPhone was released.
2. That you are a troll and pretty much an ass.
I don't believe either can be disputed - santaliqueur, on 07/16/2008, -2/+6Yes, because Apple products are more stable, they are perfect, and never have any problems.
Really? This all you got? - Sairynn, on 07/16/2008, -2/+5$8.33/mo isn't really that much. Anyone with the money to buy the iPhone likely makes more than that in under 15 minutes.
Would be nice if it were less, though. - smspence, on 07/17/2008, -0/+3In case anyone cares, I just received an interesting email from Apple Sales Web news:
"MobileMe messaging is being updated effective immediately. In order to set appropriate expectations with our customers, focus your sales discussion on 'automatic sync' rather than 'push.' Additionally, we will no longer describe MobileMe as 'Exchange for the rest of us.'
When discussing the sync features of MobileMe, you may tell a customer that:
* Updates between me.com and iPhone or iPod touch will occur in a matter of seconds.
* Updates between me.com and Macs running Mac OS X Leopard and Windows PCs may take up to 15 minutes when MobileMe is set to sync automatically (Macs running Mac OS X Tiger may experience longer sync times).
Further details will be provided as they become available."
FYI, I used to work at a university bookstore that sold Apple stuff. I don't actually work for Apple. I haven't unsubscribed from the email list because once in a while they have some interesting info. - binorgog, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3As a windows user since 1993, I finally embraced this phone and this service for my personal life. Love the phone, but I am so disspointed in the support Apple is giving to everyone. Even Apple users are not functioning. I'm not a switcher, I do feel this is a new platform, but for the love of Marketing, if you wanted me to switch with this bait, you are not winning any friends.
- jaredcat, on 07/16/2008, -1/+4@me.com , @mobileme.com and @mac.com all work..
You can use a mail client or webmail. It also has 'push' email to iPhones, sort of like BlackBerry/Exchange.
Additional features are synced contacts, bookmarks, and preferences between multiple macs. You also get an "iDisk" network share which is accessible from anywhere, and a publically accessible homepage and fileshare.
I signed up on Friday when I got my iPhone. Syncing email and iDisk worked immediately. Syncing contacts started working on Sunday. So far nothing else works for me... I can't even login to the mobileme website. I'm kinda pissed off about it. - justinviger, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3I thought that was funny even if I don't agree with the point he is making.
- justinviger, on 07/16/2008, -0/+3How come I didn't get this email?
- jaredcat, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2I didn't get it either...
- InorganicMatter, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2Maybe because the minimum system requirements clearly list Mac OS X 10.4/10.5 or Windows XP/Vista ONLY?
- BrendanSheehan, on 07/16/2008, -0/+2You'll get it, be patient.
- Sairynn, on 07/16/2008, -4/+5Might have more to do with Linux than Firefox.
- MacParrot, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2Exactly! I happen to know that Nancy would NEVER have eaten the soup and that she thinks Melissa wears too much makeup and is a real bitch
- Drizzit, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1Your point is? This is a browser based app and fooling it with changing the browser ID string works just fine. Blocking it actively because the browser is perfectly compatible, but the OS shows up as Linux is bound to become unpopular.
- conversekid, on 07/16/2008, -2/+310/10 trolling
buuuuuuuuuuut
"Blackberry's," as in "Blackberry is," would be better.
Or "Blackberries are." - utnow, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1@Drizzit: nobody likes your ***** operating system.
- Sairynn, on 07/16/2008, -7/+8Was it lonely under that rock?
- jaredcat, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1eh well at least its free for the first 3 months.. i wonder if i'll actually be able to login to my mobileme account on me.com during that time. at least syncing finally started to work on sunday.
really bad launch. - chadpyle, on 07/18/2008, -0/+1You're just begging to be Dugg down. You are right, of course.
- pak314, on 07/16/2008, -1/+2Still confusing. Is this an equivalent to gmail? Can you check your email through any web browser or do you need a proper email client? What domain name does your email address get?
- teh_techie, on 07/16/2008, -0/+1It's a Brand name.. you can't write Blackberries are.. you still have to write "Blackberrys are"
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -4/+4So Microsoft's live folder /SkyDrive works even for OSX.
But Apple can't even get their own system to work?
Classic!! - MacParrot, on 07/16/2008, -1/+1One of things I was looking forward to was being able to use it on my Windows work PC. Unfortunately they still have us on XP Pro running IE 6, so no updating while at work.
Digg still works though :) - DuffyDirect, on 07/16/2008, -3/+3"Steve, I haven't seen my family in 3 months! Please let me leave, please!"
- hamobu, on 07/16/2008, -10/+10In other news from Apple: Nancy, the administrative assistant in Apple corporate office decided to eat soup rather than tuna salad. No word from Nancy on why the change occured. She had originally announced to Melisa that she prefers tuna salad for lunch, but apparently she has changed her mind. One possible reason for this might be that cafeteria is featuring clam chowder, rather then usual chicken noodle on Wednesday.
- Niightwitch, on 07/16/2008, -2/+1Because they don't like you.
- worminater, on 07/16/2008, -4/+2"It just works"
- digiguy, on 07/16/2008, -5/+2Just filter the apple *****
- elister, on 07/16/2008, -4/+0and my phone's micro-sd slot trumps them all!
- inactive, on 07/16/2008, -7/+1Here comes the Magic Wand Brigade.
- Phillyz, on 07/16/2008, -6/+0For now I can use windows... JK
- chadisawesome, on 07/16/2008, -12/+5what the hell is MobileMe?
- hamobu, on 07/16/2008, -10/+2I agree! Blackberries are like way superior to iPhones. Blackberry rulz! iPhone sucks!
- waydee, on 07/16/2008, -14/+5Some apple *****, just bury it.
- ajv570, on 07/16/2008, -22/+12Blackberrys better anyways
