- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9True, I have a sexy black DS.
- Jadix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8because a gameboy is like carrying a brick compared to an ipod
- MisterWhippy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Good news for mobile/casual game publishers and it makes the Zune's gameplaying features an absolute cert.
But is it really better to play games on an iPod than a mobile phone?
Seems to me Apple's MP3 player is missing a few buttons... - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7you don't have an ipod yet.... I can tell
- Area51mafia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6While I do like the update in the games available, I REALLY wished Apple would release an SDK or something to let people develop games for the iPod. Maybe the games will be reverse engineered to find the specifics behind them...
We can hope :( - mt066, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Yeah, but it's a little better than Cingular, who wants $7 for Pac Man on my phone.
- mecole21, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5why would i pay 4.99 for tetris... i already bought it 15 years ago for my gameboy and it still works i think...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Um, that wasn't quite all. They also announced updated iPods across all three lines, the iTunes Movie store, and a home theater (tivo like?) device to be released Q1 2007.
- Jadix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6not everyone has a "sexy white DS Lite".
- microbreak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I Found the Update!!!!!!!
Directions for Mac Version of iTunes.
Once you have downloaded iTunes 7, you need to click on iTunes in the Menu bar. From there, select "Check for Updates" It will tell you that iTunes 7.0 is the most current version, then it will tell you that there is a new version of iPod Software. - electronicmaji, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The question is if they will work on nano..
- mas0nite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3so, will I be able to play these games on my now older 5g iPod? Also, does anyone know if the features in the newer iPod are going to be ported over to the older 5g iPod with an iPod updater?
- Raian, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Does the update add search capabilities?
- Runaway99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dude, I think Apple will have thought of that ;)
Maybe you use the slider wheel as a sort of touch-sensitive controller? Did he say in the keynote -- I missed it. - EvilDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The games work on the OLD 5g as well!
There is an update (1.2) for the iPod through the new iTunes interface, which will add game support.
I'm updating and downloading games right now :) - Dust3r, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I just downloaded a game and i dont think the ipod update that allows you to put the games on your ipod isn't even ready yet
- Antialias, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2With a invitation stating "It's Showtime", almost noone was expecting notebook updates today.
- jarinudom, on 03/31/2008, -0/+2If it has a 6.5 hour video playback battery life, it's a safe bet that game playing will be at least as long as that.
- mouthster, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think this is awesome, not everyone wants to play an RPG epic on a 2-inch screen. Some of us just want to kill a few minutes playing Tetris. From what I have seen at Apple's site, the quality of these games seem to look pretty good.
- angelp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Considering there are significantly way more potential iPod owners than potential Merom Macbook Pro owners....I'd say that it's not really a letdown.
- MisterWhippy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Think he hammered past gaming pretty fast en route to movies and other iTunes 7 stuff. Sheesh, that Jobs fella needs to work on his presenation!
- millixaw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Merom upgrades will likely be a silent upgrade, or just something that will happen unannounced.
- Akram, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Xbox live arcade on your iPod!!!!!
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Firmware 1.2 is now available - you don't use the standalone iPod updater - its integrated into iTunes now.
- jay42, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You have a game-boy that can hold 20,000 songs?
- Timjacobs, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I bought poker just now.. i'll post a video on youtube
- speedy2171, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think this is great for those of us who are tired of the played out games the iPod came with. What I'm interested in is when they'll come ot with a developers kit for us to make our own games.
- Area51mafia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Does that include the Gapless playback? I hope it does.
I'm booting into Windows in a few hours to rip the DRM off an album I bought in iTunes 6 a year ago, then update to iTunes 7 and get the firmware upgrade and hope to get some Gapless playback. - EvilDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2It seems the 5g also supports gapless according to
http://forums.ilounge.com/showthread.php?t=173445&page=3 - EvilDude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2New Brightness adjustment in the 1.2 firmware for the iPod!
No gapless feature or anything from what I can see or hear, maybe I need to let iTunes "generate gapless data" first.. - augmentation, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Search feature is NOT present in the 1.2 firmware on the original 5G ipods. Confirmed.
- nickless, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I think 5th generation ipods=ipod video :( the ipod nano seems out of the 'generations' thing, as the shuffle, (or maybe the nano is now 2nd gen with the new redesigned ones.)
I really hope i'm wrong though since i own a nano. - mas0nite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1ooops
- BabyWookie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't see why they wouldn't work on a Nano. I mean, you can play Doom on the thing after installing Linux. There is a great free version of Tetris for it too. Too bad I was having some nasty problems with iPod OS file corruption after I installed Linux, so I had to reformat and restore my Nano. But, that was a while ago and the whole Linux thing could be less buggy now.
- mas0nite, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was looking and i do not see the search feature
- WolfwoodX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No nano support...
- lexbaby, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What more than you need than a 4-way directional control and a "fire" button? I think phones have too many (and too small) buttons for games.
- jarinudom, on 03/31/2008, -0/+1Hehe I just noticed the iPod has a little progress bar when it's rebooting now :)
- halleyscomet, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Feh, none of this will run on my iPod Mini damn it!
However, I might consider upgrading if they add Frozen Bubble to the list of available games... - Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow did you see the video of Doom on the Ipod? Completely unplayable. Umm, can you play BF2 or WoW on your Ipod? Maybe drive your car with it?
It is an MP3 player. Why can't it just stay an MP3 player? - Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What are you smoking? The DS was designed to play around with a pointer... it has organizers and mp3 players and they are shotty just like the PSP. The psp is actually more designed to be a gaming machine and it just has the other terrible things added in. Wide screen, analog controller, many buttons and great PSP games. The DS is weird, has two screens to complicate games and has a little stick to touch the screen with even though a finger would be faster. It is weird and very hard to get used to playing games on.
The light is a little better as far as sexiness, but not in terms of usability. - cybermort, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1who would be interested in this games... people like me.
I'm not an avid gamer, no consoles, no wow, no computer games nothing. but when i had my sidekick to my surprise i found my self purchasing games, easy fun time killers. If i had this ipod i would definitely browse trough their games and probably buy a couple of them. - Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Cingular charges $7, wow that is a ripoff.
- Frankie4Fingers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Where is the FM tuner and the recording of radio and audio? These are things that creative devices have. I personally like the FM radio capability of some other devices better then the games from the Ipod.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Great... so they're trying to turn the iPod into the next PSP (all-purpose movie/music/gaming device which flopped because it did none of those things well).
Dangit, stop trying to do 20 thousand things and focus on what you're good at. And there is no way in heck I would ever play Tetris on an MP3 player when I have my sexy white DS Lite with Tetris DS, which was actually designed solely for playing games. - simX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@Frankie4Fingers: Dumbass. It's called third-party add-ons. The iPod has had support for both of these features for a LONG time now.
- mt066, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Anyone gotten theirs to load on a video iPod? I'd like to try it out, but not if it doesn't work.
- saturnring, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Whenever this is getting ready, I am getting it. Playing Pac-Man and Tetris on my ipod as i listen to my favorite artist.wow.....what a useful way to kill time now!! which game will you be playing the most on your ipod - took a poll on the same here, http://www.tezaa.com/view/which_of_these_ipod_games_will_you_be_playing_in_your_new_ipod
- crilen007, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I can play Doom on my iPod Video.
http://ipodlinux.org/Doom - medialift, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Hmmm... I doubt this will attract people who just want to play games... it's just another reason to get this rather than a Creative, making the iPod more of a multifunction device. e.g. where's the touch screen or WiFi, eh?
