http://images.apple.com/macbook/gallery/images/macbook4black20050516.jpg - titlesaysitall, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20Yes, plus you get ULTIMATE STATUS
- blankartist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Selling the MacBook without a Gig of RAM standard was a crime in the first place.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15This is basically if you want a MacBook one gig of RAM and a Superdrive, you can walk in off the street with your money and get it.
- Fraghappy, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16The new high-end MacBook will attract a lot of people who want a high-caliber laptop for cheaper than the MacBook Pro's selling price. Seriously, this new beast is basically a Macbook Pro with a non-Titanium and integrated graphics. There are worse hardware hits you could take for that kind of money.
- deadbaby, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12Probably looks identical to the current black model?
- bombtrack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9It's two weeks old, BFD, things that are over 2 years old hit the main page all the time. Not everyone is checking Apple's configuration page with bated breath.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11It's called a MacBook Pro.
- leodavinci, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10From the article, "A new 2.0GHz white MacBook configuration packs an additional 512MB of RAM and 20GB of extra hard disk space, for a total of 1GB of RAM (via two 512MB SODIMMs) and 80GB of storage."
- pinsomniac, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9I don't see why Fraghappy is getting dugg down; what he/she said was absolutely right. I'm getting a Macbook over the MBP because aside from the video card, there's little to no performance difference between the two machines. Anyone that doesn't believe me should go Google the Final Cut Pro benchmarks comparing the dual G5 desktop, Mackbook, and Macbook Pro. (Guess which one lost... Hint: It wasn't the laptops.)
- caliform, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9I am glad my Macbook Pro keeps breaking in such weird ways that I always get an up-to-date notebook of Apple every couple of months :).
- nTensify, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8"I bought the 1.83 MacBook for $1100, uped it to 2gb for $150, and got a 100gb external drive for $70"
Congradulations, you've just learned that buying your components and customizing your computer is cheaper than buying a retail machine.
Now, if you'll just fill out Form A6Q, you'll be getting your geek card in no time. - Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It is a laptop so one gig is quite a bit, but IMO they need 1gig. Please God one gig in every Mac Protable next year, oh and Superdrive for all. Like they did with the iMac's last year. That would be great!
- flickr, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9People said that same thing about the standard 256mb of RAM a few months ago... ~ha~ha~ How times have changed.
- goodoldharris, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4What do you mean "digg needs to lay off reporting"? You know the stories are submitted by users, right?
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Actually more accurately it's closer to 95% of computer users. ...and you must care enough to read the digg and comment.
- DoctorDuckey, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6What are you guys talking about? $100 for a gig of ram is a decent deal--OWC has the same upgrade for $109
http://eshop.macsales.com/item/Other%20World%20Computing/5300DDR2S1GB/ - darkyoshi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The Apple store will upgrade the RAM and HDD while you wait, so it doesn't make a difference other than about five minutes of your time.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5ummm, the thing is, if you self upgraded at the Apple store you would be paying the same price. So no benifit of buying the "Ultimate". Just means you wasted more money when you finally realize that you need 2 gigs of Ram, and have to throw away the 1gig Apple coaxed you into buying.
GG - mackoid101, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4513 people think otherwise.
- brandizzle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Eh...more like what they charge to upgrade the RAM from Apple is a crime.
- t.toe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4hahaha! score! I walked into an Apple Store on Saturday and walked out with the exact MacBook configuration I wanted (white, 2Ghz, 1G of RAM, 80G of HD). I can vouch for this article.
- Joshosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hey so can you play Sims 2 on a Macbook? Any reply is appreciated.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Yea, but it means you can walk into an apple store now and get a 1gig MacBook without any hassle. And it also suggest hints to a precursor of 1gig standard in all Apple Books by Macworld 2007.
- ohmar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was shopping for a macbook and this was the configuration that I was considering. I priced newegg for the ram upgrade to 1 gig, and for once Apple is offering a comparable rate for the sticks. When I bought my Powerbook 12 G4, I saved about $100 when i ordered my 1 gig stick from newegg rather than from them. good to see they are finally offering the ram upgrades at a reasonable price. At least for teh 1 gig upgrade. The 2 gig is still somewhat excessive.
- Gecki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Now to see if Apple takes there new "utimate" macbook to the UK?
- avatarpalin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's what I plan to do.. although I might stick with a gig for now..
- Sweno, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4even as a mac fan, I have to say: wtf?
This really isn't news. - sinembarg0, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Guys, this is DDR2, its more expensive than DDR. Also, DoctorDuckey apparently didn't realize that macbooks can take advantage of dual channel, so having two 512MB sticks is better than a single 1GB stick, and by getting both 512 sticks from Apple, instead of getting one from them and one yourself, you ensure that you get a matched pair, and get slightly better performance than if they weren't matched.
- azglendale, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I bought the White Mac book 2 Ghz processor ... Then went and bought 2 Gigs of memory and 120Gig Hard drive and paid a lot less then what Apple wanted for the upgrades. My advice (not that it's worth much) is get the processor that you want then third party upgrades is the way to go!
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Don't you mean 881 people, and counting? ;)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Great! Does it still burst into flames like the other ones? That's a very important feature to me.
- kineticarl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1newegg. read the reviews for the various sticks of RAM. There are lots of people upgrading their macbooks.
- Worf2006, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Same here in Canada, I'm pretty sure it's not here (yet)
- kaimoku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder how many people got their MacBook's configured like this in the first place. I know I did. I needed at least the 80 GB drive, and I couldn't justify $150 for black paint, so I went with the white 2.0 Ghz with 1 GB RAM (cheaper if you just get 1 gig -- Apple way overcharges for the 2 gig upgrade, though) and the 80 GB HD (not a bad price from Apple.)
- usernamed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where's the best place to buy some good Macbook RAM?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3It's nice to see that they're increasing the RAM, but anyone who purchases a MacBook is far better off buying 2GB of third party memory.
- KibibyteBrain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1And, gosh, perhaps some currently non-mac users follow macintosh market developments too! I would estimate that while Macintosh only harbors a small percentage of the market, they probably are on the shopping radar of a much larger proportion of consumers. This is like saying that just because 0.1% of drivers buy BMWs, that only 0.1% of the market cares about BMW product news...
- IdleWanderlust, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As of 2:12 pm on July 5th there are no new configs listed on Apple's US store website.
- ElectroBot, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2But it's not worth paying an extra $550 to get a real video card (plus the other differences between a MacBook and a MacBook Pro) when all you want is a MacBook with a better video card.
Apple should hold back (not bump up the CPU) the next MacBook revision (to create a bigger difference between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro) and instead up the RAM to a default of 1GB and give a Built-to-Order option to replace the integrated video card with an ATI or NVidia one with 64MB RAM (the MacBook Pro has 128MB and 256MB) for $100-$150.
BTW I'm comparing a white 2.0GHz with 512MB RAM, 80GB HD with the base MacBook Pro. - nTensify, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2"That's $100 for 512mb more RAM. That's not a good deal. It's worth about $50."
The MacBook's use Dual Channel memory, so to benefit, you have to install them in pairs.
Two 512 chips are still going to cost around $80-90, and Apple installs them for you, so it works out to a good deal. Of course, you don't get the trade-in value for the two 256 modules but.. they'd be worthless if you tried to sell them anyways (it's pretty standard these days for laptops to ship with only two ram slots, and having both occupied). - calvinkcox, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Talk about being three weeks late... some of the stores have had these configurations in for quite some time now... Apple Insider must have been sleeping on this one.
- digitalvision, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I can now get my Apple MacBook Ultimate and in the future probably load the Vista Ultimate Edition for my Ultimate computing experience.
I bet Apple and Microsoft got ahold of some marketing survey that one of those companies at the mall who pays you $10 to give your opinion made, saying that "ultimate" was a word that people responded well to.
Focus group marketing at its ultimate, I am sure. - DallasGeek, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I upgraded to a gig in-store with my MacBook no problem...
- joelmole, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3"What are you guys talking about? $100 for a gig of ram is a decent deal--OWC has the same upgrade for $109"
That's $100 for 512mb more RAM. That's not a good deal. It's worth about $50. - sapo916, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Whoa comparing Computers and Cars, belive me when I say that when a new BMW comes out and a minor Apple upgrade is introduced that not many will care about Crapples new memory upgrade, yay.
and man I was talking about the general population not just computer users obviously, plus I never said specifically that I dont care. Stop twisting my words and get a real argument - avatarpalin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1It is news... An event happened and it was covered by the media.. That's what news is..
- avatarpalin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1..
- matthiasgoodman, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6Ah, but you see, the thing is . . . um . . . It is is Apple memory, which means that it has more fiber and vitamins.
I am a Mac fan, but the price for extra RAM is just to high. I understand that manufacturers want to put a premium on add-ons, but even the guy at the Apple Store at my city's mall recommended I get the RAM somewhere else. - CyberSmackdown, on 10/12/2007, -7/+5"The $1599 model includes 1GB of RAM (also via two 512MB SODIMMs), but otherwise is identical to the company's $1499 MacBook, which includes 512MB of RAM, an 80GB hard disk and SuperDrive."
So is $100 for a 512MB RAM upgrade? -
