The whole "i" thing is a brilliant marketing move. Yes it's getting old but the fact is it's tied to Apple like Nike has the swoosh. Like it or not, it's here.
Now, iWeb... I would LOVE a Dreamweaver killer app - would buy it up in a second, but I can see more of a blogging tool more than a mega-dev kit - Considering most "i" apps/tools are focused on consumer level stuff. - spamdies, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1it wasn't a mistake. it was marketing strategy.
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0KorbenDallas: I think you mean you have iSickeness? You can get iHeal and it will be all better.
- nate85, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0No accident, they do this every time so we are thinking about it and ready to buy it the instant it goes up for sale.
- weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If you follow TUAW's link to the Macrumors thread, you'll note in the 10th comment someone suggesting it could be a blogging tool. Then further suggestions that it'd be like Rapidweaver, etc. Here's the link:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=170944 - dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ilife = front row 2?
- Kitsune818, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Pure speculation:
iWeb will be a simple template based "home page" builder for mac.com. Sometime in the future, Apple will roll out iWeb Pro, or something ending in Pro, which will be the real deal Dreamweaver type app. I wouldn't expect the Pro version this year. This year will be all about converting all the current apps to Intel, converting all the current products to Intel, pushing the new Mac Mini hard, and moving forward with 10.5.. I'm thinking FrontRow 2 will debut as a 10.5 only app. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Nothing is ever accidental when we're talking about these thing.. they are trying to get some hype.

Now THAT's a user interface we have yet to see... - bradspry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'd like to see what Apple would do with a Web editor/publisher.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apple's going after Dreamweaver... I might have to pick this iLife up.
- DJMac317, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Windows people on bash Macs based on pure ignorance and comic book guy syndrome.
- dvdcr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@aarplane did i say Microsoft was innovative?
- sdquirk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I wonder if it'll be like iBlog?:
http://www.lifli.com/Products/iBlog/main.htm - ChrisFenix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think that if they DID do a web publisher it would be stripped down but it would be very usefull for people just getting into web page design.
Now if we can just get them not to throw music in the background........... - ashanks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0http://www.karelia.com/sandvox/
From the makers of Watson. You know the story. - Markdoggin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0->1dash: Yea, but apple design should be able to put out something better than the mighty mouse, and have you seen an OLED keyboard yet?
- Markdoggin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Give me an awesome bluetooth oled keyboard and multi-button mouse and I'm a switcher.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"No details but it's on Apple's website. iWeb is speculated to be a WYSIWYG blogging tool but no one knows."
I haven't seen it speculated to be anything like that. Stop putting your opinions in descriptions! - grayapple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As a dear dear Apple Mac OSX user, who loves his, shall I say ... 'iFamily'. All I have to say is...
The Pirate Bay at the ready - cmadach, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i'd be skeptic to call this a "slip up." seems more like effective advertising. look at the buzz it's whipped up here.
- panique, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Apple NEVER "accidentally" releases anything. LOL. This is a deliberate leak, designed to do two things:
1) Pump up the Apple community cuz now we know this is going to be a big one for sure
2) Completely knock people on their ass who take the bait and think this is the big deal for MW.
Too bad it won't be as big as a new Pro machine with 2 Dual-Core Xeons - invader, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yay for viral marketing.
if steve jobs farts, he creates a tidal wave of fanboy speculation - netwookiee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Did everyone miss ryan_merket's post of the appleiweb.com domain?
Dude, did you just go out and buy that and then put it up on an auction? How lame would that be? Sheesh! - ColdDimSum, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0re: multi-button mice... I use a logitech mx900 with SteerMouse to map the buttons (curses upon Logitech for *still* not having a driver). And darn if I don't actually want a few more buttons & functions. Um, what was the topic again?
- cclark2222, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I only looked at a few images, but from what I saw, they were the worst use of photoshop I've ever seen.
- serpicolugnut, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It will be interesting to see how iWeb compares with other web publishing apps. If it's part of iLife, you can count on it being consumer focused, meaning it probably won't have enough oomph for those of us who use something along the lines of Dreamweaver or GoLive. It will proabably be more in the vein of Rapidweaver.
One thing is for sure - it sucks to be Dan Wood at Karelia Software. First he gets hosed with Watson being copied by Sherlock, now, the web design app that he's been designing for the last year or so will have to go toe to toe with iWeb. Jessh, this guy has no luck at all.

http://www.osxfactor.com/ - il0vemymac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's no mistake... I can see if they goofed and put up iLife '06 by mistake instead of '05, but the inclusion of iWeb is not hard to put up unwittingly.
- joneorange, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0If apple did a web publishing app maybe it will be like rapidweaver (http://www.realmacsoftware.com/rapidweaver/index.php).
- ragboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It probably IS rapidweaver, you would think they would have bought that by now.
- jabba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I'm not sure how iWeb can fit into the whole iLife thing. All applications in iLife are what SJ like to call them "Digital Hub" apps. Nothing to do with publishing documents or other stuff. If this was a part of iWork I would suspect that it could be some sot of web publishing tool, but as a part of iLife I'm not so sure.
- Kissitfatty, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0whats this ANOTHER apple post, this is all that digg is now just apple feed: PEOPLE GET A GRIP
- jamms, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0did someone mention iblog? that is such a cool application. it's going to take a lot for me to switch from iblog to any other blog type program.. if apple think's they are going to sherlock iblog out of the market like they did ipodder, they are sadly mistaken.
- beamz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Regarding oled keyboards, they're useful if you touchtype I guess. Even if they're used as function keys that go from app to app, I hope you memorize the function keys and don't spend time looking at 30x30 icons on top of the keys.
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0To those who don't believe this is a slip-up, think back to when the G5 was introduced. They accidentally put up specs of the new G5 chips a few days before Macworld. I bet Steve Jobs was FURIOUS when he heard the news.
Apple likes to keep its secrecy. It was definitely a mistake. - weareglass, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think probably iWeb will be a way for the other iLife apps to interface with the web. Apple probably realizes that they're not going to sell a million .Mac subscriptions, and that they need to offer the user a way to make easy webpages displaying their digital life content whether it be on .Mac or someone else's servers.
- iWorks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0figures... i just bought RapidWeaver too.
- Draje, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow iLike, not really. They make to many products with "i" in it. iReallyDont like it. iWish they would stop.
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Mac people(and Linux people) bash Windows WAY worse than Macs ever get bashed."
There's a good reason for that. WMF file anyone? - zforrester, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Don Wilson:
From the TUAW website: "iWeb is the real interesting thing here. Is this some sort of web authoring tool? "
Doesnt that count as speculating? Dont forget to read the article before commenting, please.
On a side note, my bet is that it's an improved iDisk. - stijn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I really need to get me a mac :D
- aarplane, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1@dvdcr: If Microsoft is innovative, why do they keep releasing operating systems based on DOS?
- Funkly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0time to tart that damn online business with a sba loan, i got buy a mac..
damn.. - KorbenDallas, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1imSick of iThis and iThat....
- dmccleave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Boring...... no digg
- ElectricGrandpa, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Windows people on bash Macs based on pure ignorance and comic book guy syndrome.
Mac people(and Linux people) bash Windows WAY worse than Macs ever get bashed. - mesoed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0iCan't stand all the products that are named iSomething. Maybe iWill just plug my iRiver into an oWindoze machine iUse to read my eMail at work and watch uCrash.
uCan probably build aFortune by registering iDomains... Too bad iDidn't think of that before... - bluffcityjk, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1News Flash: Steve Jobs takes dump. Fanboys scramble for sample.
