- Sandtiger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13I was thinking about going until I saw the $1300 a ticket price. OUCH.
- e3mw, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Apple didn't formally announce that they'd reveal leopard at this WWDC. Steve just offhandedly mentioned it in his keynote at the last WWDC. But taking history into account, it's a good bet that they will be showcasing many of the features of leopard for a timely release whenever Windows Vista decides to roll out. I wonder if Apple will have 7 different versions of Leopard. XD
- beni, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Sell the baby for your ticket.
- thecolorme, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Should I buy a new iMac or attend WWDC? :P
- plum, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7No, this is the first time ever that it'll be held in August.
- Kazrog, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I honestly can't think of what I'd want from Leopard. OS X has been perfect since Panther in my opinion, and as cool as Dashboard and Spotlight are, they're really icing on the cake.
- ricodued, on 10/12/2007, -11/+15Vista has seven versions for a reason. Four of which are consumer, two for business, and one for developing countries.
OS X has.. two? Client and server, right? OS X doesn't have the user base that Windows has, thus doesn't have to accomodate to so many different groups of people. I'm sure mom and pop don't want Media Center and IIS installed on their computer if they won't use those features.
OS X does great with its two (or one) version(s). I'm posting from Camino right now (which needs work, by the way). Windows does well with its multiple versions, suited for its vast audience. It all works out and works out well, or else Microsoft most certainly wouldn't do it. - ndm007, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Oh God! Does this mean that the endless speculation and mock-ups are going to last even longer this summer :(
My RSS reader just cannot handle it anymore... - Ninjamonkey, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Has Apple ever held the WWDC so late? It is usually around June-July.
- frem001, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5i hope they don't show leopard until vista is out otherwise microsoft will delay it again AND WE ALL KNOW WHY
- vanlandw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4As a iMac G5 owner I'm very excited to see how apple is going to get another $100 dollars from me to upgrade my OS. Hopefully this will be a good release.
- lightningrod220, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5You must be at least 18, and you must be enrolled in a college.... an accredited school.
- Nanx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Cuz Conroe won't come out until then.
- ronmexico, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Doubtful, Tiger was previewed at a WWDC and wasn't released I think until the following March.
- dongiaconia, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Depends on if one of the attendee gifts is an iMac.... :)
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I'm dying to get some official announcements on what Leopard has in store.
- golddigga, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i don't think that they'll release lepard. i think they'll try to release lepard at the same time as vista and microsofts not gonna release vista in august
- miligo, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Oh no, my wife and I have a baby on the way around then! decisions, decisions...
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2submission: Vista Release Date Pinned Down.
submission: SETI Confirms Message From Deep Space
submission: Earth Expected to Blow Up in Three Days
mjar81 responds with: since when is this news? anyone who cares already heard the announcement before this made it to the front page. honestly, people. start submitting news because it interesting and not becuase you hope to get to the front page.
Of all the reasons I've read as to why a given submission should not have been made, this has got to be the weakest. - Maskawanian, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I didnt know this and I'm an apple developer, I've been working hard trying to support myself. I thank the person who posted this.
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I tell you what I'd like...
I've got a fairly new dual processor G5 and yet it's not uncommon for the OS to head off doing its own thing while I'm trying to get a menu to drop down. This is common in the Finder but I especially notice this lack of responsiveness while trying to get a bookmarks menu to drop down in Safari.
In other words, I'd be happy as a clam if they'd rework the user interface so that it created the illusion of having a snappier feel to it. - technique, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I'm anxious as well -- I wouldn't be surprised if there is more software that takes advantage of the Intel chip better. I would think that with dual cores as a baseline, boot times can be minimized even further with enhancements to launchd. I'm guessing a lot of the "real" improvements will be the less visible things, such as task scheduling management, "Core *" technologies taking advantage of multiple cores, etc. I'm sure there'll be eye candy improvements too, but I bet they won't be as extensive.
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I just realized that XI looks like a smiley symbol for constipation.
- zwilliams, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@ salmonax:
Its more likely because of Intel's CPU development cycle. Conroe is supposed to debut to the market by that timeframe as Apple plans to show off Leopard. - cdman98, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1College students do need to get laptops and a new hip iPod. No?
- 16x9, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I have to agree with you, Refrag. As much as I like the overall look of OS X, I really think that Apple's willingness to stick to well thought out user interface standards has gone downhill.
Hell, Apple doesn't even stick to their own guidelines a lot of the time. I wouldn't mind that if there seemed to be a valid reason to do something different. But I'm convinced that some of the changes they've made are just to look cool rather than being functional. - Salmonax, on 10/12/2007, -4/+4I wonder if it's Leopard's development timetable that's pushing it back.
- Demagogue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2they probably have to have enough time to get their new products ready...
- zanderscoffee, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I really hope that they clean up the osx interface in 10.5. Currently all the apps all are a little different. Coming together under one uniform design would be sweet. I've heard that Apple's waiting to this until after Vista's release in order to throw off Bill Gates.
Silly Bill. When will you learn? - twitndiggfan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3really, y is it so late, leopard better be cool (i love my tiger too) - the only thing i'd trade my mac for...... is a new one
- omnivector, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2The cool thing though is they have a nice stable platform to work on that's mostly feature complete. Now they're in the position to figure out what kind of "cool stuff" they can do that quite frankly most haven't even thought of yet! Who knows what they have up their sleeves. Maybe we'll get another Expose type feature that shakes things up a bit.
- matt.rubin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1don't care **looks down the list oh 4 video cards** oh but a apple won't have use for it but to show a ripple affect in the widgets that eat 200 mb of ram
- Refrag, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3It sounds like they're waiting to fully transition to Intel before the next WWDC.
- makem, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2WWDC has always been the second most important opportunity to announce new products...
And the new Intel desktop processor generation called "Conroe" is "announced" (I might say rumoured) for "Mid 2006" (whatever that means), see
http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=787
for a roadmap of Intel for 2006 and the Conroe processor family
So June could be a bit to early for "all new shiny" Power Macs, but in August.... - noneloud, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2"where are you flying from?"
That's just the price of the ticket to get in....not the transportation. Click on the "register now" link on the page to see more details. - Refrag, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I'd like to see a consistent look for all of the windows.
- mehtajr, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I expect they'll unveil the intel Power Macs at WWDC-- it only make sense. WWDC runs 1-2 months late, and they're committed to moving the entire Mac line by the end of '06 (which means not at MWSF in January).
- skidknee, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Are we already getting antsy now that we've had a handful of releases in a short span of five months? I swear every two months they have an announcement, and no one will ever be happy.
I think we all should know by now that April 1st is the date to look forward too, so let's just wait until that date before we start the whole uproar, shall we? :P - jnw05, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I agree.
- jpt62089, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Hey, I care and I didn't know about it till now! Just because you heard about it along with a few thousand others doesn't mean everyone has heard about it!
story dugg - RomeyRome, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Cool..News about an announcement about some announcements in a long time from now.
- omnivector, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1You should file feature requests with Apple. This is exactly how they rate priority for a lot of things. 1 request for a feature does not get nearly as much notice as 50. http://bugreport.apple.com is your friend!
- jk_baller23, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Yeah, I guess this info only pertains to the ones who actually go, because 1300 is a big dent in my pocket. I'm sure for those that go, they probably got an email about this anyways. I too am waiting to see some closer announcements, such as the 30th anniversary, rather than announcements that are a little too far into the future.
- geminitojanus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Have you requested it from the developers? I've personally sent quite a few emails about things I've felt were wrong about the OS, and the developers will usually send me back a reply (albeit a short reply) saying either "we'll fix this" or "this is why we did this". I guess I do get prioritized a bit (get an ADC account if you're a Mac developer, general advice to anyone), but they still are very reasonable people. It is a really simple thing to add, I couldn't see any reason why a developer would outright turn you down (unless they have another reason for why not to).
- cdman98, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Mac To School products. (back to school time ya know)
I would go but as just a student that 1300 price tag hurts. - StanrickKubley, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Can't afford it. I bought a Mac ;)
- Nanx, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Except that school systems buy supplies for the next year (computers, etc.) in March-->June
- Addex, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Skellener: QT has a fps counter. Look under Window --> movieinfo.
- thomashallock, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2WWDC Student scholarship man... definitely the way to go. Apply for it if you are a student. You'll probably get it.
- krum0786, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1Way too early to be talking about this. Lemme just wait for the Apple 30th Anniversary conference first.
