- digitalpencil, on 01/03/2008, -2/+85Far too busy for an Apple product.. they've always been set on simplicity, minimalism and strong UI design. This thing breaks into two different parts and then you've got the optical drive which is, well... huge! Much more likely is a smaller footprint MacBook with a much slimmer profile, multi-touch tracker pad which, I doubt very much is OLED 'cause to be frank, it would look daft! & a portable, ultra-slim optical drive as an optional extra.
- LiquidIse, on 01/03/2008, -1/+65Am I the only one cringing at the thought of a trackpad on the top of my keyboard?
- mxpxpx, on 01/03/2008, -5/+65something just doesn't look right with it, it gives off a MS product feel
- whiteyak41, on 01/03/2008, -1/+44This seems counter-intuitive for apple, since they're used to making things simpler, adding 3 parts for a laptop just seems kind of stupid.
- ivoices, on 01/03/2008, -1/+39The separating pieces would never work. People would lose their keyboards, and be stuck with the screen (or vice versa).
- mdavis, on 01/03/2008, -1/+35That is so not Apple-way too complicated.
- rickcarson, on 01/03/2008, -6/+32It looks great. But then I realised I'd need a second laptop bag to carry the other half of the setup (the bit with the optical drive at the end of the video). I somehow don't think the idea of a successful tablet will be to carry _more_ junk around.
- nawlins, on 01/03/2008, -1/+25That thing is hideous and so complicated.
Why is the touchpad at the top of the keyboard? - mraustin1337, on 01/04/2008, -4/+25I personally think it's really ugly looking... Maybe I'm alone? Good thing this is just a mockup...
- Jacksc, on 01/03/2008, -2/+21ugly
- trry96, on 01/03/2008, -2/+19not necessary...
- Falldog, on 01/03/2008, -1/+18Unfortunately you can only use it if you're the Silver Surfer.
- felch, on 01/03/2008, -1/+16what an ugly piece of trash. Why would there be a touchpad above a keyboard? Why would it be split in two? These lame mockups need to stop -- they're never even close and almost always impractical, and ugly.
- crazzy88ss, on 01/04/2008, -1/+15Wow, this is possibly one of the worst mock ups i've seen of an Apple product in a long while.
- scripthead, on 01/03/2008, -1/+15I actually think it's totally overdone and overcomplicated. The whole puzzle style components have been tried before, numerous times. It never works - it just results in overpriced and hard to find peripherals. Two thumbs down.
- lpse2000, on 01/04/2008, -1/+13the whole thing is retarded... starting with the track pad on the top of the keyboard... that's ridiculous.
- baldgye, on 01/03/2008, -4/+15looks rubbish if u ask me, which no one is.
- mdavis, on 01/04/2008, -1/+12There's a reason the guy who designed this works for Popular Mechanics and not Apple.
- MBX1, on 01/04/2008, -0/+10Too bulky and complicated. Apple is sleek and simplicity is key. Reduce all unnecessary elements.
Will be much thinner anyway. - qwertydvorak, on 01/03/2008, -1/+11the idea isn't to carry around the extra part. the extra part is for home docking. it is a tablet on the road, but a desktop at home. pretty elegant design if you ask me.
- glimp7, on 01/04/2008, -1/+10Apple wouldn't release a product that works like that, not in a million years. But I can think of a million that would.
- Ramble, on 01/04/2008, -2/+11No, I think it looks like ***** too.
Not very practical either. - OpCzar, on 01/03/2008, -0/+9*their!
- 2shae, on 01/04/2008, -0/+8and confusing.
- KyjL, on 01/03/2008, -2/+10Thing looks hideous
- TwistedSilver, on 01/03/2008, -0/+8too... complicated. look at the new iMacs. Very clean. In the keynote Steve Jobs even emphasized the fact of its clean design by comparing it to a "standard" dell desktop.
- socialpyramid, on 01/03/2008, -3/+9Progressing a little closer to Phil K. Dick's awesome screens from Minority Report...
- trollick, on 01/04/2008, -0/+6As dumb as separation of the saucer section
- sirbeta, on 01/04/2008, -1/+7I agree. It's nothing like what I would expect a finished apple product to look like. I'm not the biggest fan of Apple, but I do give them credit for how their stuff looks. This is just silly.
- Pinkertinkle, on 01/04/2008, -0/+5Is that a jigsaw puzzle or a computer?
- pierre, on 01/04/2008, -2/+6that is ***** retarded. anyone who thinks otherwise is an idiot. period. apple would NEVER make that.
- theokandroid, on 01/04/2008, -0/+4That thing is ugly as sin.
- Morphinity, on 01/04/2008, -0/+4I laughed at the pear instead of the apple.
- grantmoore3d, on 01/04/2008, -0/+4How about a modbook? Look them up, they look pretty cool. Though, they don't have a keyboard, which could be troublesome.
- maddh, on 01/04/2008, -0/+4Yeah that's what I want, two separate $150 batteries to replace every 6 months.
- xalax, on 01/04/2008, -0/+3Don't really get the touchpad at all...
If you can touch the screen why even have a touch pad?!? - dagamer34, on 01/04/2008, -0/+3Apple will probably using it's mini DVI connector.
- CongoJoe, on 01/04/2008, -0/+3What's the point? It's a detachable screen instead of being always attached.
How does that bring anything new or innovative to the arena? Apple isn't going to introduce something to an already questionable field if it doesn't change the paradigm. - Vector713, on 01/04/2008, -0/+3Didn't you hear? Microsoft's released something better! The Billdo! It's got wifi too, so you can have ActiveSex over the internet.
- apersaud, on 01/04/2008, -0/+3Way too complicated with having multiple-attaching/detaching parts. If you know Apple - its about being minimalistic in design.
- jordanau, on 01/04/2008, -0/+3I can already imagine all of my digg comments with "asdfjkhlaskdf" at the end of them as I try to click submit.
- HouseofEl, on 01/04/2008, -0/+3Interesting and sorta cool design, but it just doesn't feel like an Apple designed product. I don't think it will be influenced that much by the iphone. I'm pretty sure we will see something still more influenced in the laptops. Apple, has always been quite minimalist. This has too much stuff going on. I think the true design will be more like a mac book pro.
- D3koy, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2So it has three parts, none of which seem to stay together?
Why not one big screen? no keyboard(touchscreen) and throw a cd/dvd drive on the side...
and stick with the current theme of aluminum and glass... - Tyr7BE, on 01/04/2008, -4/+6iPhone on steroids - you mean it has copy and paste?
- inactive, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2How often do you actually need to use a cd. they're not used for data storage or transfer any more as sd and usbs are more convenient and have more space. Music- not often download anyway, games- not on this rig.
I've had one cd in my macbook in the 9 months since I bought it, and that was the leopard install disc.
personally I'm hoping for a tablet with out a optical drive, with a sd card reader and an iPhone like keyboard - kmotiv1, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2Dugg for the NIN logo...
- justinjstark, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2What would be awesome is a basic tablet with no crappy folding parts where the screen covers the entire unit. Add an on-screen keyboard that uses Immersion Corporations haptic technology which allows tactile feedback from touchscreen controls. That would be an awesome device.
...not to mention help out my stock portfolio. :-) - zdiggler, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2Very lame. Who the hell want a laptop that come apart like that?
If you want a tablet there are a tons convertibles designs that work real good.
My HP come with Optical Drive, full keyboard, if I want I can just turn the screen 180 and use a BT full size keyboard/Mouse.
- Ramble, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2Not OLED because it's too expensive.
- DeFex, on 01/04/2008, -0/+2also known as "a tapblet pc with more parts to break".
