- franklymister, on 11/25/2008, -4/+81Since authorized Apple resellers aren't given much, if any, latitude to discount prices in the first place, this doesn't sound like much of a deal.
- srodolff, on 11/25/2008, -6/+67I'll believe it when I see it.
On a side note, my wife owns a Macbook Pro that she purchased in January of this year.
You should have seen the venom in her eyes when she saw the ad for the new Macbook.
Welcome to the world of Apple, honey. - artfuldodga, on 11/25/2008, -8/+57match the sales of ... themselves? WTF. you almost got me apple, f*ck you.
- TremorX, on 11/26/2008, -5/+46Yeah, I just hate how computers suddenly stop working altogether when a newer, better version comes out.
- Cglass, on 11/26/2008, -5/+40Yes we have agreed to lower the price at ALL of our apple stores to match that of any other store where we already set the price. This statement is both redundant and superfluous, and we appreciate your fanboy support.
Thank you
-Steve - nullcodes, on 11/26/2008, -2/+33Huh? Match the prices of their own products?
- TheWorm, on 11/26/2008, -3/+25I wasn't aware that their authorized resellers were considered to be competitors..
- vtnerd, on 11/25/2008, -14/+26From the title, I thought they were going to price their systems comparatively to computers running Windows - you know computers that aren't overpriced. Needless to say, I was disappointed. I'd get a Mac if the hardware wasn't such a blatant rip-off.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -4/+16How about matching the price of a computer with similar specs? then we have a deal
- redwallhp, on 11/26/2008, -7/+16
- rolf, on 11/26/2008, -2/+11Um, yeah, what's the negativety directed at Apple about? She saw the computer and it's feature set and thought it was worth purchasing. It's still the same computer she purchased in January, it didn't become worse. The successor was just predictably better.
You pretty much have to hate any product line that improves in a general trend year to year: from all computer manufacturers, all car makers, etc.
If you really want to avoid that, research the product you are buying. Even though Apple doesn't generally announce it, you can pretty much tell when a product line is due for a minor renewal (CPU and harddrive upgrades, etc) and when it will be coming. Major renewals (total revamping the product line) not so much but you'll get a general feeling there too.
And, yes, I have a 3.5 year old Powerbook. I wish I had something newer but that's the game. Your wife has a nice intel based computer and it's plenty fast. - jecruzs, on 11/26/2008, -3/+9its*
- ModernGeek, on 11/26/2008, -1/+7I believe you have a wife. Enjoy your hand.
- stp6435, on 11/26/2008, -0/+6A man, A woman and An Apple!
Wait a minute, where have I heard that story before? - regularsteven, on 11/25/2008, -2/+7i can only assume this is US only... *argh*
- digitalpencil, on 11/26/2008, -0/+5really? we're digging this ***** up?
- cerealjynx, on 11/26/2008, -0/+5The reseller I work at is reduced to 'buy a computer, get an in store gift card!!' Hooray.
- PabloMac, on 11/26/2008, -0/+5There's no such thing as a Titanium MacBook Pro.
- batmanz, on 11/26/2008, -2/+7When I saw the title, I thought it meant matching the prices of other comparable PCs.
How silly of me... - libradragon, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4I never saw the point in matching prices. Wow, the same price --not a bit cheaper.
- ShadowdStranger, on 11/26/2008, -1/+5Because rhymes are substitutes for facts and logical arguments.
- DuneChild, on 11/26/2008, -4/+8Actually, the hardware is comparably priced to a high-end PC. The only place you really get screwed is add-ons. The lesson here, of course, is to avoid buying RAM or hard drives from Apple. Other than that, the hardware is really not a rip-off, plus you get a really nice design.
- mistergoomba, on 11/26/2008, -2/+6I'm going to open my own store and give out free MacBook Pro coupons. Special Note: coupon not good at any of the Mitch's Apple locations.
- colasrtney, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4I thought apple products were the same price no matter where they're purchased.
- digg1520, on 11/26/2008, -0/+4On a sidenote, I think the pricing system of the US retail market is ridiculous, with its special sale days and discounts and rebates and coupons and rewards and whatever new thing someone invented to make comparing prices impossible. Put a f'ing price tag on it, done.
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3$100-150 off. Wow. Even HP, which had their laptops already priced way below Apple, is having a better sale. Example: Staples is running a HP G50-106 for $399 (was $699). That is double the supposed sale Apple hinted at. I don’t know how credible this site is for any of this, but seriously. Apple needs to lower the prices.
- NightGecko, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3Technically, Apple has always had this price matching policy. Not really a big deal.
- ninjadave, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3Don't digg this guy down, he's completely right. As a consumer, its your job to spend your money wisely.
- PabloMac, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3
- inactive, on 11/26/2008, -1/+4You can go ahead now and add an antitrust section in the Wikipedia entry for Apple.
- rowlodge, on 11/26/2008, -1/+41/2 price yay!, just kidding
- natenovs, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3oooh - this comment will surely knock you off your digg perch.
but it's true- i always feel like im going to get sick when we go into those store - so many people, dirty hands, etc. plus, they usually smell like crap... - Urkel, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3It's interesting how this is one of the biggest stories of the week. People are acting like this is some sort of crazy half-off sale but the reality is that $100 off of a $1299 item is only about a 9% discount. And sadly, outside of this weekend then we probably won't see this sort of "severe" discount again. So what exactly is the big deal?
- intuin, on 11/26/2008, -0/+3Yeah, Apple is pretty chill, but not as laid back as the Pringles company. When they received potatoes instead of tennis balls, they said, "***** it! Cut 'em up!"
Gotta love Mitch Hedberg - CaptObvious, on 11/26/2008, -2/+5When did Microsoft send that one guy that $1300 piece of software again?
http://digg.com/apple/Student_Writes_to_Steve_Jobs ... - inactive, on 11/26/2008, -2/+4Too be honest, I'm starting to think these comments are paid for by Microsoft. There is always at least one comment like this and they are almost identically worded.
- ciano, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/
- bbardlbradd, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2iBook G4 (late 2005) still running strong. Maybe macs are aware of your income.
- gaqua, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2At least a price-fixing section.
- Crazysticks, on 11/26/2008, -3/+5Best buy has a $100 off iMac right now. You can get the same deal at an Apple store if you bring in a print out of the deal.
- cawpin, on 11/27/2008, -0/+2"There's not one thing on the feature list that Lexus offers that Chevy can't give me. What a rip-off."
That's actually correct. Lexuses are pieces of *****. The Malibu is the best car in its class. - blorc, on 11/26/2008, -2/+4It happens. The boxes look exactly the same aside from the small print that sets them apart, and people make mistakes in a rush. And are you really surprised you had to wait to get checked out during one of the busiest shopping weeks of the year? That's like stepping on a nail and expecting it not to hurt.
It sounds to me like you're just one of those pissy self-righteous customers with little to no patience. I can tell because you complained about it to the guy at the door like he has anything to do with the situation. OH MY IM SO IMPORTANT ILL JUST MENTION THIS TO EVERYONE ON MY WAY OUT SO THEY KNOW HOW BEST BUY TOTALLY JUST TRIED TO RIP ME OFF FOR SERIOUS. - Commodus, on 11/25/2008, -12/+14Heh, more like the world of computers - did you remind her the basic hardware design for the MacBook Pro hadn't changed for almost three years until the new update? :)
- raydeen, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2WHEEEEEEEE! WHAT SAVINGS! WHAT FUN!
- tomis, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2If you want a good discount just buy it on Amazon. They tend to have the best discounts, aside from Apple's refurbs or education discounts.
- Demos27, on 11/26/2008, -2/+4Why don't they do this all the time...
- kingbyu, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3First you would have to become an authorized apple re-seller.
- epohs, on 11/26/2008, -2/+4Why oh why could they have not updated the Mac Mini prior to this?
- DCstewieG, on 11/26/2008, -0/+2Holy *****, what the hell is this? He's not talking about the Apple Store specifically. Have you ever been to a mall between Thanksgiving and Christmas? FILLED with crazies. And I don't know which store you go to but the one by me always has 1 or 2 workers greeting people at the entrance and the rest with a customer.
- Kazbaeden, on 11/26/2008, -1/+3Microsoft gives away Office and Windows regularly. I have Windows Vista Ultimate and Office Ultimate for taking a survey.
