- timusca, on 10/10/2007, -21/+115Queue the obligatory "This is due to initial hype and it won't stand up to long-term sales" comments...
Face it, iPhone haters, you were wrong. Dead wrong. - chrismusaf, on 10/10/2007, -14/+86Would they have done this by the end of September without the price drop? You bet.
- Gir9000, on 10/10/2007, -6/+50It is Definitively the next phone I will buy... Thank God for the price cut!
- OneManArmy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+36Direct Link to PR http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2007/09/10iphone.html
- chadlewis76, on 10/10/2007, -3/+35The day it was announced, I tore the iPhone apart on my blog. But hell, I just couldn't pass up $299 for the 4gb model. And you know what? I still don't think it's to be a Blackberry killer, or even a replacement for my full-sized iPod, but it is a damn nice phone. Much nicer than my Samsung t809 at least, which I paid the same price for two years ago. Now if Apple would just get on the ball with an official dev kit...
- JlmAWP, on 10/10/2007, -7/+34Sorry, we all forgot that the thing that qualifies us for intelligence is whether or not we buy a certain model of phone.
Or, for our more "aggressive" internet trolls: "nuh uh ur the idiot" - totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -8/+34Dude, your whining about Apple is getting embarrassing. I mean, damn.
- streak, on 10/10/2007, -5/+29I've owned plenty of iPaqs, SEs, Nokias, Palms and other Windows Mobile devices, all promising great Internet experiences. Pfft! The iPhone is the first to have a functional web browser and properly rendered html e-mail. And because I was already using a smart phone (HTC 8525) and the iPhone's service plan is $20/month cheaper (plus taxes and fees), my 8 GB iPhone was effectively free. It would been stupid not to go iPhone. I use the web 10X as much on the iPhone than I suffered through with previous smart phones, because the iPhone simply works.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -4/+25"Take note that the PR claims they’ve sold the millionth iPod, not just shipped it." - Daring Fireball
Even better! - SantaDuJuan, on 10/10/2007, -5/+26I understand you're tired of Apple stories, but please don't become an anti-fanboy and think everyone that uses an iPhone is somehow wealthy and stupid.
- derjames, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22take that Ballmer...
- FoxMcCloud, on 10/10/2007, -1/+20I'd buy it right this second if it wasn't for the shackles of my Verizon contract
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -3/+17It's so funny reading all these comments of people who hate Apple so much. I don't understand it. When did Apple become Darth Vader? Did Apple kill your parents? Did Apple bully you in school? What is your major malfunction, guys? If you don't want a iPhone, don't buy it. Why do you continue to whine about how stupid people are for wanting one? What's your problem?
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -6/+19Or anyone else could take a ***** and put an "I hate Apple" sticker on it. How many of those would you buy?
- 80hd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15agreed. Get out and do something as opposed to getting upset about things that you choose not be a part of..
- tadunne, on 10/10/2007, -4/+17If you are tired of all the Apple hype I guess you should go elsewhere. There's nothing more tiresome than a Troll
- totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -2/+15I think the iPod Hi-Fi and AppleTV pretty much prove this isn't true :p
- psg188, on 10/10/2007, -24/+36iPhone haters? It's a ***** phone, not some end all of phone technology, not some religion for which you are being prosecuted.
I'll be dugg down for pointing how ridiculous you are, but seriously, you aren't being rebellious. It's just a ***** phone. - inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+14Lucky for us Jobs instead focuses on building some of the best MP3 players, cell phones, and computers on the market today.
- ashwinashwin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+12when they hit 16GB, i'm in
- timusca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11Well, according to wikiepedia, "On July 18, 2006 Motorola announced it had shipped the 50 millionth RAZR in 3 years, making it the most popular cell phone of any kind."
I don't think Apple will meet 50 million in 3 years, however this is really due to the fact that you can get a RAZR for free at most cell providers... - noahhoward, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Most people who like the iPhone don't treat it as a religion, but there is no religion that compare with the zealotry found in ome of the people who are bashing the phone for no good reason.
- Angostura, on 10/10/2007, -2/+12That's $100,000,000 worth of vouchers queuing up to be used at the Apple Store. Interesting times.
- timusca, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Who's more of a sheep? Someone that buys a hot product or someone that calls someone else a sheep like every other dumbass that thinks they're cooler for not buying something?
- Schelske, on 10/10/2007, -3/+12Just like every piece of electronics.
This "concern" about the iPhone is such a joke. Every computer, every watch, every phone - every piece of equipment requires batteries. Whether I buy them from Duracell or from the PC maker is irrelevant to me. Batteries have to be replaced. I'm a laptop power-user and I have to throw away and replace my laptop battery (both PCs and Macs) every year or so because the capacity is so worn down. Quit whining about it. Batteries die and need to be replaced. They aren't free. They don't grow on trees. They cost money.
Get. A. Job. - geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+11Err and, how are they behind their first year estimate? That's *exactly* what they expected to sell according to their own estimates (1 million by end of first quarter of availability, which is actually 90 days not 74, 10 million by end of 08).
- PseudoNim, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Of course it's not a Blackberry killer - Apple "omitted" any sort of enterprise functionality or server sync with it. The BB continues, unchallenged, even with all its retarded limitations.
- chrysrobyn, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8@berkz
If clicking the link gets you the press release directly, doesn't that make this blogspam, and don't we thank OneManArmy for providing the blogspam-free link? - totorototoro, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8According to Ars, the Motorola Razr sold 750K in 3 months at $500/unit? Anyone have another source for that?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -9/+17smells like m$ boys are lurking around in here
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12Kevin, get a ***** life. We get it, you hate Apple. Nobody gives a ***** about what you think, now go run off and tell the world how great Linux is and leave us the ***** alone.
- HornyGoat, on 10/10/2007, -4/+12Easily, with world wide release Apple will sell a lot more then 10 million.
1 million in 74 days is about 5 million in one year and thats not including the rest of this year and thats just for the US, you think Apple won't sell 5 million or more around the world? You'd be kidding yourself. - tuartboy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9Heh, might be me. Bought mine yesterday afternoon. Don't mind the $400 for the phone. It's the AT&T contract that I hate...
- geminitojanus, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8More impressive, it's about one every 9 minutes for 74 days. On an item with an average cost of $550. The iPhone is a license to print money.
- VitriolAndAngst, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8$350 for the iTouch vs. $50 more to get the Phone.
Brilliant marketing.
Steve Jobs had to come out with a Price product to "Set the value" in your mind. The price drop, actually makes it competitive with other top-tier phones, you just don't get the subsidy that most phone companies bring to the table.
I still wonder if Apple wasn't limiting their acceptance by giving AT&T a 5 year exclusive deal. Two years would have made sense .... but Apple is probably going to make more money with the service fees than what they make on the phone. Still -- the biggest downside is the vendor in this deal. - TimmyGUNZ, on 10/10/2007, -5/+12If you don't to read the Apple stories, turn off the category in your preferences. Nobody wants to hear your jealous whining.
- ssttuu, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11By my maths, which is very primitive indeed, that’s 563 an hour (13513 a day), meaning at there current rate they’ll sell 4,932,432 in one year. I believe they are only at the very bottom of the up-take curve, so there target of 10 million in a year is still very viable, though it goes someway to explaining the price drop.
- BossKey, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11All the "cool" kids are bashing them, and all the "cool" mature, productive adults are using them.
- streak, on 10/10/2007, -7/+13Yes, it's a ***** phone. It's ***** the competition and ***** the status quo.
- Stirk, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8"It's quite simple, actually. It bothers some folks that Apple continually makes products that people like to use. It bothers PC techoweenies that Apple makes computers that aren't upgradeable in every imaginable way (though still upgradable), and yet, people still buy them and love them. It bothers phoneweenies that Apple came into the phone game with a v1.0 product that is more beautiful and perception-altering than anything anyone else has ever made, ever. Apple made a phone nationwide news. Anyone see any articles about the new Blackberry? Or that Windows Mobile had been upgraded? Nope. Because nobody cares. And audiophiles hate the iPod as they do all digital devices.. because on some audio measuring device somewhere, the iPod delivers inferior sound to a fully analog tube-driven setup and vinyl albums.
But mostly its that regardless of the hate and venom, Apple still succees. People still flock to Apple stores. People still love OS X. Apple still makes money hand over fist. And no matter how many blogs are written, no matter how many posts are in no matter how many forums, Apple just keeps winning. And people just hate it. They hate that their words are meaningless and their feelings are thorougly ignored by the world at large. It's like acid in the mouth. Guess what iPod bashing, Windows loving, iPhone smashing, Apple haters...
Nobody cares what you have to say. Why don't you go scan your harddrive for spyware? I've got work to do." - locnguyen, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8The force is strong with you. Some people hate to see others succeed when they can't. That's all.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -4/+10Noooo, I believe the original quote was 10 million by year end 2008. Which gives them over a year. Whether or not Apple sells 10 million phones is inconsequential. If the iPhone makes others look seriously at their UI and make them better, then we all win whether you buy an iPhone or not.
- MacParrot, on 10/10/2007, -2/+8It still means they were sold. As compared to companies that say one million shipped. You get the difference right?
- timusca, on 10/10/2007, -3/+9You're damn right... word-of-mouth is one of the best indicators that a product is good. This theory, of course, fails with the RAZR, but if you compare the iPhone with the RAZR, you don't deserve the use of technology in any form.
- rebotfc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Who wants to remind the of the fact that it took Microsoft over 1 year to reach 1 million Zune sales?
- ChunkerMunker, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Its called ENVY my friend.
I know many people that say stuff like....
"***** Apple"
And my fav...
"Apple's for *****"
Yet they've never used an Apple product.
But all of us have used Microsoft products, specially Windows. - timusca, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5You, or one of the other 13,000 people that bought one within 24 ours of you.
- dajuggernaut, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6he is holding out for the Zune phone.... poor guy, at the rate MS is going he's going to be waiting till 2011
- superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Do you even read Digg? Saying there's an iPhone hater is not like saying the Easter Bunny is real. You can see real live iPhone hater examples every day.
