- digg1520, on 10/03/2008, -12/+43Minor iTunes update on the frontpage? Seriously?
- shadyconcepts, on 10/03/2008, -4/+25...including
• Seamlessly plays the current song when creating a new Genius playlist.
• Improves syncing spoken menus to iPod nano.
• Addresses an issue of deleting HD TV episodes when downloading.
• Improves checking for updates from the App Store
• Improves accessibility with VoiceOver.
• Addresses problems syncing Genius results to iPod.
sounds pretty straightforward. nice to see that Apple realizes and addresses bugs so quickly. No word on the bugginess of iTunes for Windows, however.. - e68895f, on 10/03/2008, -1/+14Yes, why would Technology section tell you news about technology issues...
- Nenb, on 10/03/2008, -1/+14These are hard times for dial up users. I feel your pain buddy.
- ianbirtwistle, on 10/03/2008, -0/+13 "Seamlessly plays the current song when creating a new Genius playlist."
THANK GOD. That was way too annoying. - fletcher008, on 10/03/2008, -2/+9I wasnt aware that there was an update available until I came to Digg and saw the article. If you dont like a story, dont Digg it. And why waste your time posting a comment?
- ExSlashdotter, on 10/03/2008, -2/+9"let me know when 2.2 comes out"
http://www.macrumors.com/2008/10/03/apple-releases ...
So what you're saying is you're only interested in software updates for products YOU own? - Zippo, on 10/03/2008, -0/+6Yeah, about 200,000,000 people world-wide, actually.
- inactive, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5Good idea! Despite the fact that 8 fixes many of the issues with 7!
- skywake, on 10/03/2008, -1/+6its funny... I see that comment on just about every story on Digg for just about everything that could ever exist....
"you say that, but if it was the other way round, with Sony releasing software like that, there would be uproar"
"you say that, but if it was the other way round, with Bush making policies like that, there would be uproar"
"you say that, but if it was the other way round, with ...." etc, etc... - egthareal, on 10/03/2008, -8/+12Still doesn't fix vista issues. damn you APPL and your hundred dollar stock.
- BZKyle, on 10/03/2008, -2/+6After this update I cannot sync my 1st gen iPod Touch...
"The iPod 'Kyle's iPod' cannot be synced. An unknown error occured (13014)." - menwuur, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4The reboot is usually for quicktime from my experiences. Itunes will run fine without reboot after update but try to watch a quicktime vid and it aint happenin til reboot
- hawksfan03, on 10/03/2008, -2/+6there must be more changes then they are saying 73.12 MB to update? Oh wait, apple is one of the few companies that doesn't know how to release a small update to the program instead of forcing users to download the entire program again.
- Nenb, on 10/03/2008, -2/+6No reboot.
iTunes have had a total of eight updates the last 12 months (7.5 -> 7.6 -> 7.6.1 -> 7.6.2 -> 7.7 -> 8.0 -> 8.0.1). I think that is pretty ok.
Also, so long as you are not on a dial up, I have no idea why you are complaining about a safer update since updating the whole application is less prone to errors. - MacParrot, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4Sounds like you're doing it wrong. I have three iPods that I connect all the time (mine and one for each of my kids) and unless there's an iPod software update that's pretty major it never clears it and reloads.
Just hit the "sync" button not the "Restore" button - KSUdesigner, on 10/03/2008, -1/+5I have never had to reboot after upgrading iTunes. My guess is that you're also installing other updates which would tell you to reboot.
- Ziggy7273, on 10/03/2008, -0/+4Thats is not what happens. Manually managing your music will allow you to put any music from any itunes that you own or is not DRM'ed. Pressing sync will not ruin that.
- petervenkman, on 10/03/2008, -5/+9Any word on jailbroken phones and this update?
- johnpaul191, on 10/03/2008, -1/+4there is no reboot after this update. i'm not on dialup, so this was a pretty fast download (and i don't think we have great download speeds).
- Slizzo, on 10/03/2008, -1/+4Just as every other software developer worth their weight in the industry.
Really, this isn't anything new. Most software companies patch their software after release. - KSUdesigner, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3Honestly I've never used iTunes on a PC so I wouldn't know how it operates there, but on a Mac Quicktime is a separate and optional install, though that does require restart.
- ExSlashdotter, on 10/03/2008, -3/+6There's also a matching AppleTV update out there too with a few goodies:
- Music Video playlists
- Genius playlists
- On-the-Go Playlists
- Standby Option
- HD TV Show Playback and Purchase - tenchiws, on 10/03/2008, -4/+7They still haven't fixed the black window bug.
- UselessTrivia, on 10/03/2008, -4/+7I loathe the itunes updater. If you're like me, and you don't really open iTunes all that often...it basically feels like there's an update every time you do it.
Also...would someone please teach apple how to do a PATCH for christ's sake? Why does going from 8.0.0 to 8.0.1 require a 73MB file? That's not a patch, that's a reinstall, and it's a waste of time, especially when you consider that apple recommends a REBOOT after every single one. - jayzeus, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3Youre such a fanboy....
- diggtochina, on 10/03/2008, -1/+4Haha your such a poser. I'm running a Core 2 Quad 3 ghz with 3 gb of RAM. I haven't had one virus, one crash, and my OS (XP Pro) is lightning fast.
So STFU fanboy! - MacParrot, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2I remember those girls! Ahhhh memories
- MacParrot, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3Microsoft HAS released software with bugs as has Apple. Software (especially first release) is typically going to have some bugs either not found in initial testing or found after release to the general population.
No one expects software to be perfect out of the chute. Take a valium and relax dude - uskomaton, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3I agree, it's not news.
iTunes 8 was news cos of the new features, this is just bug fixes and thus not news worthy. - enoshixi, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Meh... I'll stick with 7.5.0.20. I like QTFairUse too much.
- MacParrot, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3Should they wait until they have a bunch of different updates? Maybe you should send Apple your schedule so they can release them when it's more convenient for you.
- theycallmeguy, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2When are they going to let us be in Genius modem and not have to listen to that annoying navigation sound when you navigate through your music?
- MacParrot, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3Yes, Apple should fix issues with Vista.
kidding kidding...I knew what you meant and yes Apple should address long lingering issues with iTunes running in Vista - MacParrot, on 10/04/2008, -0/+2@Giga
WTF are you on about? Are you saying that 8.01 didn't fix anything? Or that 8.0 (as the 8th major release) should have been perfect? I was commenting on this thread started by saying that if it had been Microsoft blah blah blah, that everyone would have been up in arms about it.
Almost every 1st release of either a program OR a point upgrade is going to have bugs. No matter who releases it. Apple is not immune (obviously) and neither is Microsoft, Adobe, or any other major vendor you might care to name. - oldhick, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3Learn how digg works. We find it interesting, therefore we digg it.
- aliguana, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2no, I have to reboot every time I update iTunes too. It's called "Windows". (probably due to the fact that the installer re-installs Quicktime every bloody time too, which requires a reboot on Windows)
- Slizzo, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3Oh, randomly blue screening any full screen app while it's running.
- flibblesan, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2And what issues would these be?
For the record, I run iTunes 8 on Vista Home Premium x64 and I have no issues. - ogmak, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Also fixes "video on top", which didnt work in iTunes 8 for some reason. Now i can watch my video podcasts while doing other things on my computer again!
- MacParrot, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2Also what you said would make more sense if you used the "reply" button. You didn't mention managing content on one iPod from multiple computers so how was I supposed to respond with incomplete information.
Do it manually like Ziggy said - enotswhat, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1competition is grrrrrrrrreat now that Apple has some they make changes everyone wins
- MacParrot, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2As long as no major changes have been made to your playlists or other relevent information, try hitting the "Restore" button. That should re-initialize your iPod Touch. Also check the Apple Forums for anyone else having the same issues. Good luck.
- aliguana, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1fixes both "bluescreens when you plug an iPod in" and "accesibility issues under Windows". It certainly is a lot faster now (on Vista), and it remembers the screen position next time I open it (which it didn't last time, talk about a rush-job)
- SlpingInsomniac, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1Does anyone else think that the grey iPod apps screen should be white or black, but not grey?
- MDKAOD, on 10/03/2008, -3/+4It's for Mac. Are you really surprised it's here?
- AppleMacStud, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2You are utterly misinformed. Stop being a prick and get iTunes 8.
- UselessTrivia, on 10/03/2008, -2/+3I have a screen in my face at this very moment that says "To finish installing the software, you need to restart your computer". I deselected everything except the itunes update.
Granted you don't actually NEED to reboot the computer for iTunes to work...but it's there. This is on a PC not a mac.
I'm not sure where you get the idea that a reinstall is somehow "safer" than a patch. Both carry the same risk...that the new code introduced by the update will be unstable in some way. - Canuck, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1All this guy did was post an article to digg. It is up to everyone else who comments on it and diggs it to make it to the front page.
