            Flash is a massively CPU-inefficient piece of code. It's not going to get magically better just because it's running on a device that has hardware support for H.264.

    Safari is much faster... and switching between webpages is smoother.. (when you have multiple pages open)
    The Camera also appears to have image stabilations or something.. it's smoother as well.
    who knows what other hidden updates where added.... remember the webgallery update?
    i'm sure a new version of itunes is on it's way.

    *** this update did mess up my installer.app hack..... that sucks.. i'm gonna just wait for new updates instead of installing the hacks.. too much headache.

    • superkendall, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13What do you mean by "Brick", because you can always restore an iPhone from scratch. Traditionally "Bricking" means the device will not even turn on, which is not the case if it simply tosses away some thing you have installed yourself. Heck, in that case you don't even have to restore, you just lose the extra apps you added (and can then re-add them after the patch and after the patch to the third party app loader, as per above)

      If you can restore it, your phone has not been bricked.

He said these things are coming and that is why I bought the phone. I feel that I have pre-paid for all this and NOW I want my goods.

    • streak, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Some weird stuff now with the camera. When framing objects for a photograph, if the camera is jiggled, the objects jiggle like they're made of jello (er, Jello(TM)). I never noticed that with 1.0 or 1.0.1. My recollection is the image smeared when jiggled (certainly the pictures were smeared).
      When switching from viewing photos back to camera mode, somehow the camera wound up in a mode with the viewfinder image split in half, and with the two halves on opposite sides of the display from where they should be. In landscape mode, the split was vertical (left and right halves). In portrait orientation, the split line was horizontal (top and bottom halves). I've not been able to reproduce this behavior yet, although I haven't really tried very hard.

    • xbryan, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0I too had this problem. My phone did not freeze up on me before applying 1.0.2. I tried everything to fix it (restored multiple times, etc). Eventually the WiFi on my iPhone gave up the ghost and I had to get it repaired. I got a loaner iPhone, applied 1.0.2 to it and it is now freezing. Suffice it to say I will not apply 1.0.2 on my iPhone when it comes back from repair.
  • bgramer1, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2My Sidekick2 died last night and I spent an hour at Tmobile today only to be told that i have to pay a deductible of $110 for a replacement device, so I'm at a crossroads on whether to upgrade to SK3 or iPhone.

    Here's the catch, I'm deaf and need IM support to make 3rd party relay phone calls. Would I be a dumbass now to buy the iPhone ahead of October when Leopard comes out and iPhone adds a bunch of new apps to work with it? iPhone has everything I need (and a superior user experience) except for a native IM chat app - and word on the street is that iChat was delayed because Apple/AOL's negotiations took longer than thought.

    There's no waiting until October because I do need a communication device ASAP and can't afford the luxury of waiting.

    Engadget guys have faced issues with their hacked iPhone. Here is what they had to say:

    "We take it back about our backup working properly. Despite the fact that we had a couple of error messages during the upgrade which seemed innocuous, this iPhone update wiped out our device and refused to restore a backup, instead creating a new backup based on a fresh restore. In other words: we just lost everything on our friggin device and the automatic backup is gone."

With this patch my iPhone now flies, turns invisible, and shoots lasers. That last new feature is my favorite, and I can’t wait to try it out in traffic tomorrow! But, for some reason my e-mail still says I have over 2-billion unread messages, after I read a couple of e-mails it tells me that I have negative two messages unread, and while I can move an e-mail to a separate folder I still can’t create folders. Syncing notes and ring tones? Nope, that’s not fixed yet. But the lasers are great. Trust me.

    I don't even have AT&T anymore, I cancelled phone service on my iPhone until my verizon contract is over. I think this OTA update is Wi-Fi connections only.
