- ejectMedia, on 10/12/2007, -1/+14not really, that kinda goes without saying. Of course apple supports their own technology.
- stephen2417, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9As my accounting teacher once said, death is forever.
- gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9Its a great service, I think it should have been free to those who bought a Mac as it really is a great value add that you just cannot find on the PC various years ago when it started. But for the price I wouldn't go for it. But even today iSync and iDisk are just starting to be figured out by the services.
- FunkyWitDaSysTm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7spiffy!
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes .mac is nice if you have many macs and want to keep stuff in sync. But for someone who already has a host/server with e-mail (webmail), web hosting space, and whatever else .mac is hardly worth it.
For someone like my sister who loves to scrapbook and share photos and things, I would highly recommend .mac (and a Mac! :) because it's so damn easy to do all the things she wants to do, but doesn't because she uses Windows. Luckily she's open-minded and calls me asking things like "I want to ditch MS Office, and I heard about OpenOffice. Is it good? Should I try it?" ... When I told her she should get a Mac she said her next computer was already going to be a Mac. - ersnyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5That was the point. They are showing what developers are making applications for the service Apple offers. We already know, as you have stated, what Apple apps work with the .Mac service.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3One I noticed is missing is NetNewsWire. Nice list, but I'm sure it's not exhaustive.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3You have absolutely no idea what this is about. How sad. You know, hardware and software are different, and .Mac is not the same as Mac. Learn to read, then maybe your trolling won't be so pathetic.
- PhilUk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I use Streamload and 7GB would be free.
- jabbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i agree...thats why i got it as a gift. and it was a ***** great gift. it has made syncing my intel iMac with my PowerBook unbelievably easy. i suggest that you mention that you wish you had this and how awesome it is near the time you should be receiving a gift (i.e. anniversary, birthday, ______'s day).
- cheez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2i'm glad they included transmit, it's a great app
- TheCheeks, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2good list but i still dont see .mac worth it... i just dont need it so far. im sure theyll pull thru with some sort of .mac idea that EVERYone will want.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Ok, so there are lots of Apple/Mac fans here. Get used to it. We don't complain about the amount of Windows/MS articles, and by we I mean Linux, Apple, Sun, whoever else fans.
- computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Smultron all the way, baby.
- RedZeppelin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2So much for the rumors (or wishful thinking) that Apple will make .Mac free soon. Rather than cut the price they are simple screaming "Look what all you can do with it!! See? It's worth it! No, really!"
I'd like to have .Mac but no way I'm paying that much for it. - sshack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Cool. I've been looking for something like this for a while.
Apple isn't pushing this. But some of the .mac compatible software would work really well
for small businesses. There's project management, collaboration (groups), file storage, etc for $100/year (or say $250 for a family account).
Really quite cool. - hoyaman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2What's more surprising is that there aren't more applications listed. How many people use .Mac? Wouldn't more developers want to feature this "ease of use" feature?
Does Apple charge developers to build-in .Mac backends? - sshack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The SDK is free. I use it for my own personal (private) software. It's very cool.
This is really the first batch of software using the SDK. Wait until people really get a gasp
of what can be done and what should be done. The difference will be night and day. Similar to web1.0 and web 2.0 stuff. - nurriz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was down at the Apple store where I live yesterday, just sighing over the wonderful laptops. Too bad I can hardly play any games on it. Since that pretty much what I do with my computer, I don't think I'll ever own one.
- dcamp7gh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Still not EVERY Apple app supports the .Mac feature. Thats all I was pointing out.
- computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It's about $8.33 a month.
Not really worth it. - Burmask, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Define Long.
- kodek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2"it convinced my gf. right ashley?"
Hi Ashlee !!! - matthewdrayton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Interarchy should be on that list. It works with iDisk and is the fastest way to access you iDisk.
If you are using .Mac for file storage you might want to check out Interarchy and Amazon S3. Amazon S3 is a web service that can be used to store and retrieve any amount of data. You pay only for what you use. $0.15 per GB per Month of storage used. And $0.20 per GB of data transferred.
I use S3 for an offsite backup of our photos. I currently have about 7 GB of photos on S3. Thats about $15 a year for 7 GB. Compare that to .Mac - $99 a year for 1 GB storage or $150 a year for 2 GB storage.
.Mac is lame. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Ironic, seeing as how not much is compatible with a mac.
- cviebrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This list certainly isn't exhaustive. I can think of a few more, like NetNewsWire (RSS reader) and Cyberduck (SFTP/FTP client).
- atozand1to10, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Is that it?
- rickvug, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I too am surprised that there aren't many applications taking advantage of .Mac. At my work (a small web development firm) we use .Mac to sync up our address books, Transmit favorites, iCal and more. The service is too expensive but the cost would be justified if nearly every program used the service.
- jabbar, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3have you ever gone to buy a computer at the apple store, they give quite the presentation of .Mac. it convinced my gf. right ashley?
- BenBenMan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2@nofxjunkie ... it was a light-hearted random piece of sarcasm, I know hardware and software are different, I'm fully aware .Mac is not Mac ... you don't need to treat me like a n00b.
It just seems like around here anything with the mention of Apple or Mac here gets a lot of diggs ... I mean, its not something particularly exciting is it? A list of software which works with .Mac. Yeah, that's super uber pro. (note again the sarcasm) - BenBenMan, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2I bet the Windows Hardware Compatibility List wouldn't get this many diggs...
- shailendra, on 10/12/2007, -10/+0cgd h dhetu eyu e
- dcamp7gh, on 10/12/2007, -17/+1Anyone else find it humorous that they left off the Apple software off this list? ie - iWeb, iPhoto, iDVD, iMovie, Garageband, Backup and others that work with .Mac? Just ironic to me.
- mfratt, on 10/12/2007, -20/+2I hate how everything that has "Apple" "Ubuntu" or "Microsoft Sucks" in it immediately jumps to the front page.
And this is coming from someone who loves Macs, Ubuntu (Well..Debian), and hates MSFT.

What is Digg?
