- ziggotron, on 08/06/2008, -1/+17That's the iPod touch stand. It has existed as long as the iPod touch existed, and no, it doesn't charge the iPod or iPhone, it just doubles as a bloody cap for the connector.
- metapop, on 08/06/2008, -2/+17that's cool, but i'm not going to take my case off every time. why don't case manufacturers make docks like this (car docks especially) which ARE DESIGNED TO WORK WITHOUT TAKING THE CASE OFF??
- habbofresh, on 08/07/2008, -0/+10actual article:
http://www.macnn.com/blogs/2008/08/05/apple-grante ...
It's also garbage article, this is not about speculative Apple products. It's just an article describing the patents granted today. Just because they were granted doesn't mean they aren't products already, or have you never seen anything with the adverb "pending" printed right after the word "patent?"
shame on you Gizmodo - SPECOPS, on 08/07/2008, -0/+6I guess you're still waiting for a new computer with a Parallel and SCSI port too huh?
- larryjr88, on 08/07/2008, -9/+15Still waiting for an iPhone that doesn't lack features common on 10 year old flip phones.
..... or a touch screen MacBook. - GCarden, on 08/07/2008, -1/+5*lose
- talonh, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3Buried for the worst example of Gizmodo spam.
Actual article with actual information
http://www.macnn.com/blogs/2008/08/05/apple-grante ... - TVarmy, on 08/07/2008, -2/+5When was the last time an Apple product actually came of one of these patents as it appeared? This is barely a sneak peak, and Apple makes so many patents but implements so few that I'm past caring. Of course 90% if not all of the clever tweaks in Apple products are patented, but I find fault with the headline (admittedly aped from Gizmodo). Apple patents come out constantly, and don't seem to directly correlate, at least as far as I can tell, with updates to actual, shipping products.
- ptFoe, on 08/07/2008, -0/+3As usual patents for ideas that are just common sense.
- joltjake, on 08/07/2008, -1/+3Well that was ignorant. Build an hp notebook with the same specs as a macbook, same processor and everything, and see what the price comes up to be. Not to mention hp limits you to windows and linux, unless you would like to attempt hackintosh which is a pain in the ass.
- matt2m, on 08/07/2008, -2/+4Do you realize its not the same form factor clunky and thicker. Some people will pay for looks when i had my mac book it was a solid piece of hardware no latches nothing to break. Good design cant be had for the prices you want cheapskate. I put it next to my brothers $500 Toshiba Satellite and the difference size, thickness a build quality is substantial.
- KJSatz, on 08/07/2008, -0/+2Seriously. That stand thing comes with the iPod Touch, and clearly that patent is for the CURRENT MacBook, not some kind of "New Macbook." Buried.
- Tenoq, on 08/07/2008, -2/+4On the upside, it's a smartphone that still works as a phone. I hate how awkward the Windows mobile devices seem when you're trying to just use them as a damn phone... :/
- LeeSoong, on 08/07/2008, -2/+4Can they patent HP's technology for producing full 15.4" Notebook computers for $ 430 bucks like the Compaq Presario CQ50Z ?
Let me know when a mac book breaks under the $ 500 line...
http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping/series_ ... - kelchm, on 08/07/2008, -1/+2My thoughts exactly.
- exomni, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Hurry up and release the new macbook, already. School is nearly starting!
- Tenoq, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Speech synthesis - turn-by-turn navigation, eh? :p
- DelMonte, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I predict that this stand will be bundled for free with the iPod touch and that it will be transparent! (Just like it is now)
- mediaspree, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1I'm no expert in U.S. patent law...but whats to stop other countries from developing similar technology?
- CATSCEO2, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1They patent it in other countries too...
- PicklePower, on 08/06/2008, -1/+2Probably so you don't loose it.
- CATSCEO2, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Excellent fanboyism.
- adml_shake, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Well that was disappointing. I was hoping to read that the Pro line at least would have a docking station option like the Dell business line.
- PicklePower, on 08/07/2008, -0/+1Darnit, I knew that.
- AppleMacStud, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1No we cannot. No company on earth generates the type of buzz and anticipation when it's ready to release a new product like the mighty and awesome Apple. Apple, led by Steve Jobs is simply the greatest company in the world.
- shanesype, on 08/07/2008, -4/+4Ok this is wierd im sure i revieved that exact same stand with my ipod touch when i bought it 6 months ago????
- freaklegion, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0Can we please stop with the front page Mac rumors? Please?
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0spellcheck fail
- richw, on 08/07/2008, -1/+1I'm assuming the dock is just a stand that Apple can sell for $40 for people too lazy to hold their iphone/ipod touch sideways
- davidv00, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0It would be good to correct the title spelling mistake?
- Chazo, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0Where is the patent for the 160GB iTouch?! I want the space with the interface!
- rimantas, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0Uh, 10 year old flip phones had copy/paste and could capture video? Somehow I do no remember this,
must be something with my memory. MMS is almost 10 years old and it is time to forget this ancient thing. - SimpleAlex, on 01/01/2009, -0/+0man they got a lot of patents...

And true, flip phones don't really have copy/paste, but any self-respecting "smart phone" does and you would be amazed how useful it is. And finally, even if MMS is kinda old, why ditch it? At least throw in some backwards compatibility.
- inactive, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0Patent trolls.
- luke255, on 08/07/2008, -0/+0That's just the stand that comes with an iPod Touch...lame.
- ZephyrNinety, on 08/07/2008, -4/+3Apparently, they're patenting a new way to play Tetris too.
http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/images/gizmodo/200 ... - inactive, on 08/07/2008, -1/+0Apple needs patents cuz Dell leeches off them
- gabe37, on 08/07/2008, -2/+1I'm waiting for a new mighty mouse. So I'll just stick to my mouse that says Microsoft all over it until one comes around.
- nonsequitur668, on 08/07/2008, -1/+0I am writing to express my concerns about Apple and, more specifically, its notions regarding viperine serpents. When writing this commentary, I had originally intended to segregate the pure errors of fact in Apple's comments from the assertions of questionable judgment where there could be room for dispute. I eventually decided against that approach because Apple's mercenaries avouch that "children don't need as much psychological attentiveness, protection, and obedience training as the treasured household pet." First off, that's a lousy sentence. If they had written instead that Apple is greedy for the well-being enjoyed by others then that quote would have had more validity. As it stands, I am proud that I'm not among the number of bleeding-heart ingrates of this world. The logical consequences of that are clear: Apple likes thinking thoughts that aren't burdensome and that feel good. That's why it will retard the free and natural economic development of various countries' indigenous population in a lustrum or two. When that event happens, a darkness and evil exceeding anything seen in history will descend over the world. I can hope only that before it does, people will convince the government to clamp down hard on Apple's hypnopompic insights. Only then can we take personal action and punish those who lie or connive at half-truths. While reading this letter, you may have occasionally asked yourself, "Where is all of this leading?" and, "What is the point exactly?" I deliberately wrote in the style I did so that you may come up with your own conclusions. Therefore, I leave you with only the following: Apple's writings exhibit a disregard, not merely for style, but for the truth.
- kermithefrogand, on 08/07/2008, -4/+2holy s! this is all sorts of fanboyism! i mean, freaking patents!!? run away!
- AppleMacStud, on 08/07/2008, -3/+1Whatever the mighty Apple releases will no doubt be breathtaking as usual. Apple is simply the greatest company in modern times led by the greatest CEO in modern times.
- theentireending, on 08/07/2008, -4/+1This would be a heck of a lot cooler if I actually knew what it did.
- phatphil, on 08/06/2008, -6/+3USB cable into the stand... why?
- ShinyDemon, on 08/07/2008, -3/+0I would assume he's referring to capturing video, sending MMS messages, copy/cut/paste, etc.; your comment really makes very little sense.
- Maguspk, on 08/07/2008, -7/+1OMG iPhone stands, finally I won't have to hold it and I can view the massive screen from a comfortable distance!
- supertommy90, on 08/07/2008, -9/+1Just looks more like a crappy little piece of plastic to me
