- lordtyros, on 07/10/2008, -0/+10The people who didn't buy the first iPhone because
1. It was too expensive
2. Don't buy first gen Apple products
are the target market here. AT&T was very crafty to jack up the iPhone plan rates. - SolituSneiku, on 07/10/2008, -0/+8quite on the contrary....those who didn't want to shell out $500-600 (me) for an iPod that takes phone calls will be buying this
- fuxxx, on 07/10/2008, -0/+8Did you forget the part about more countries?
That's probably the key aspect here. - deadlift, on 07/10/2008, -9/+17InformationWeek is simply dick riding the Apple and iPhone hype to get eyeballs for their ads/subscription to their other sites and magazines. Too bad they can't come up with articles that give real insight. Yeah, a company making money is definitely news, let us waste time on knowing what we already know. I'll get dugg down because of the fanboyism, no doubt.
- amasiancrasian, on 07/10/2008, -2/+8I've learned to weigh the success of an Apple product by how many people bitch about it.
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+6Seriously, man, there are people who act like Apple raped their whole family.
- LightSpeed4, on 07/10/2008, -1/+7"Based on iSuppli's forecasts"
sounds like an unbiased source. - inactive, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4Its already sold out in the UK dufus.
- sockpuppets, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4I put blood all over mine and told everyone I installed ReiserFS on it.
- monkeysama, on 07/10/2008, -0/+4To be fair, they didn't jack up the "iPhone plan", the iPhones now require the 3G plan, which all other AT&T 3G phones have been paying.
- austang, on 07/10/2008, -3/+6I'm waiting on the iphone 4g.
- Mothh, on 07/10/2008, -1/+3I'm just putting a new skin on my 4GB iPhone and telling everybody I got the 3G.
- monkeysama, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2iSuppli is *****: http://daringfireball.net/2007/07/isuppli
- superkendall, on 07/10/2008, -1/+3Add an "x4" sticker on it after the 4 and claim it's 16GB.
- gann, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2Whoever say "yeah i am prepared dugg me down" will get dugg up. This is almost like a law or something.
- jacquesm, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2add in telco kickbacks...
- incandescent, on 07/10/2008, -1/+3They'd make a lot more money if they were actually capable of fulfilling the demand they've created. It seems to be just about impossible to get hold of one in the UK and O2 has just announced that its stores will only have a few dozen each tomorrow. Disgusted.
http://shop.o2.co.uk/info/ - incandescent, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2I pre-registered with O2 weeks ago then on Monday morning they texted me to tell me I could buy one online, except I couldn't because their website didn't work. Now it appears they sold all their stock online and have almost none for the shops.
I need to replace my current phone urgently and had hoped that replacement would be an iPhone, but now it looks like I'll have to get something else or else go without a phone until O2 get their act together.
Oh, and f**k you for being such a rude ***** ;) - omoshiroi, on 07/10/2008, -0/+2An Edge Motorola Razr pays the same as the 3G LG Shine. AT&T is charging more because they can.
The plan price hike works out to be more than the cost of the first generation + plan. http://consumerist.com/tag/iphone/?i=5014850&t=the ... - superkendall, on 07/10/2008, -1/+2Estimates are 60% margin on the new phones. Apple doesn't make money from the service itself anymore, but if you were thinking AppStore at all - you are 100% correct.
- MadKennyP, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1Don't buy one.
- Palaceguard, on 07/08/2008, -8/+9How can they make as money? The activation process will eliminate people from buying iPhones as gifts. And since it's the 2nd gen, they think everyone will upgrade? Hopefully, less people will buy the iPhone 3G
- MadKennyP, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1Americans are not used to smart phones?
- pitchblack16, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1i wonder what they're gonna do with all that cash?
- inboxnews, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1Windfall profits? Just what does the iPhone have to do with Big Oil?
- MadKennyP, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1I always appreciate people who explain why they will be dugg down.
I'll get dugg down because people don't believe the Fairness Doctrine, if it were still the law today, would govern posting on a social website, unless that site is fully moderated. - inactive, on 07/10/2008, -1/+2Is the SMS plan mandatory? Cause I'd rather poke a pencil in my eye than exchange text messages.
- LightSpeed4, on 07/10/2008, -5/+6"Based on iSuppli's forecasts" sounds like an unbiased source.
a company is going to make money selling something?? no way!!
ok we get it, a phone is being released. stop with the useless articles, apple fanboys. - inactive, on 07/10/2008, -1/+2...Meanwhile people are skipping meals so they can afford one.
- TheInformer, on 07/10/2008, -0/+1Apple is going..... to make...... a WINDFALL??????? That's not fair. A Senate investigation needs to made into this. What kind of profit margin is Apple making?
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -2/+2Learn to spell; otherwise your posts carry no weight. Start with these hints:
you're

Water Is Wet! - namelessXsilent, on 07/10/2008, -1/+1MAY make a billion?? they will if the phone is ***** or not, comin from a iPhone owner, i know people will buy it
- inactive, on 07/10/2008, -1/+1With all the hoopla over the ***** plans being foisted on other countries, people are giving AT&T a relatively free pass on their OFFENSIVE RIP-OFF.
Now that the extent of the rip-off has been revealed, you can smugly say "don't buy it" all you want. But that's ignoring the affront to developers, who have put weeks and months into writing software for a market they expected to be large. By driving many would-be customers away with its ***** pricing plan, AT&T (and others) are also screwing over the people who were hoping to sell apps.
And apps that depend on interaction between iPhones are screwed even more by the reduced appeal of the phone.
Apple should've sold the damned phone by itself. So we wouldn't have the (misleadingly named) "Visual Voicemail" without AT&T's customization of their service. Big damned deal. I would gladly give that up for a phone that I could pop my current SIM into and go about my business, throughout the U.S. and the rest of the world. - ReganDealez, on 07/10/2008, -0/+0Apple knits up billion dollar plans for iPhone
http://www.newzof.com/news/_Huge_demand_forces_O2_ ... - sockpuppets, on 07/10/2008, -3/+2Now I know exactly where to aim my moon laser.
- jo21, on 07/10/2008, -3/+2inaccurate.
remenber kids revenue its not the same as profit.
and also who cares? unless you got stock in apple this actually hurt the costumer because they are selling cheap hardware 100%+ its price.
and they are better specs phones out there, and YES the iphone interface its not the best ever, only americans that are not used to smartphones think that.
well i can't expect too much from people who have george W. bush as their president - zmigliozzi, on 07/10/2008, -2/+1Seriously... they never even came that close with the first one, but they will with one that has only one major update? Come on now people.
- bluemist, on 07/10/2008, -2/+1Oh noes it will beat GTAIV in being the biggest "entertainment" day of the year!
Yep iPhone hype is entertainment to me. - inactive, on 07/10/2008, -2/+1Can't you wait a couple of weeks? Jesus Christ, grow up.
- Lancelot9201, on 07/10/2008, -4/+3What is so great about this freaking 3G phone when you consider that a very small portion of the nation has 3G coverage, the camera is the same old 2meg. (scrappy) & you can't jailbreak which then allows you can get your apps for "Free".. Plus, AT&T's plans were already
to expensive, for what you got, & now you get less, but this is the apple of everyone's eye.. Maybe it's me but I like value & when your avg. bill is over $65 per month, if you don't get hit extra for all those text messages or overage charges because of the ***** 450 Min's., how is that a value. Especially when you consider the regional cellular companies that for some odd reason can do a no contract, unlimited text, unlimited Internet & unlimited phone minutes for $45.00.. No wonder we keep getting gouged by the big 4 when we have people that can't wait to bend over & take it up the rear.. - CrumbleBeeHaHa, on 07/10/2008, -2/+1Its an impressive number of phones to sell, but even 2 million * 500 dollars only equals 1 billion in *revenue*. I don't think Apple will be making very much profit from that. Apple is going to make its money from the services associated with the phone over multiple years. So if these are mostly upgraders...that's not much new income for Apple.
- waydee, on 07/10/2008, -4/+2Buried as stupidly optimistic iphonespam.
- aloyeo, on 07/10/2008, -3/+1Good heavens!! Please please please....stop with the iphone articles.
Yay....a new phone is coming out. Great! But it's only interesting for that many articles.... - jameslunn, on 07/10/2008, -2/+0And by next month that 1 billion dollars will be worth 16 Euros...
