Apple Macintosh G3 tossed over a 45-foot cliff - WITH PICS!
content.techrepublic.com.com — A good ol' blue-and-white G3 PowerMac being thrown off a cliff to test "impact resistance", or some false scientific-sounding facade to break something cool. Simply awesome.

- BinaryFragger, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I own one of these old rigs and they're decent machines; mine runs OS X Panther very well despite its age. One day the power supply started making a loud noise (sounded like a diesel engine), which I 'fixed' with a swift kick to the side of the case. The noise stopped and the machine kept on running. Go figure.
- johnbrito, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8why Americans enjoy breaking a poor computer?
- bigredgpk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1violence... there's no science to it man.
- slomotion, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The mac probably insulted the guy's mother using the text-to-speech editor

- drjekelmrhyde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Will there be a smash my iphone
- atari77, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3A computer like that should be donated if it was working properly. There is really no reason to smash a good computer when there are many families and schools that need computers. A good home was all it really needed.
- HotGore, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1But we needed to see it get smashed!
- mikev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I bet you flag564 is having a massive hard on looking at these photos
- SniperGX1, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1But will it blend?
- wonkavsn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It got smashed real good!!!!
a-hiuk - D3koy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I hate Apple...a lot. But this is senseless destruction for the sake of destruction...I don't like it. Total waste of money/technology. I know, it's an old G3, but a lot of people don't have computers and I find it wrong that we are breaking them....
- spiritd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Violence + Stupidity + Computers = Awesome Digg post.
- ebob9, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One slight hint to the person who did this. The pictures are lovely, but video would be much, much more appropriate for this type of endeavor.
- sunimoto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Why not donate it, sell it, recycle it? Why do these people choose to throw all this toxic waste into water instead? WTF is wrong with them? Fax murder on Office Space was great, this is just lame, immature and irresponsible...Nothing to be proud of, really...
- endlessfight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That'll buff right out.
- Ngai, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The motherboard seems reusable... hopefully...
- mandel15, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That was stupid... I don't really care about the computer but i bet they left lots of parts in the water and around the cliff. This is the kind of people that later go to the mountain or the coast and complain because is polluted. If you have something like that you should recycle it... Use freecycle: http://www.freecycle.org/
- tf5bassist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I know that a lot of people are saying it's a waste of money/tech/parts/whatever... They'd already gone through and salvaged everything they could get use out of from the machine, and chances are the logic board was bad in the first place. I know for a fact that those old blue-and-whites are still usable, as a former Apple CPU-division sales guy, I talked to a LOT of people still using them for photoshop, audio recording, graphic design, etc etc... They're awesome machines.
So just relax everyone, it wasn't done without thought as to recovering useful parts... But to be honest, I'm surprised it didn't get MORE beat up from the fall. Go Mac! :D - SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This really pisses me off. Not only do I really like that particular design of Mac (I have one loitering under my desk) but loaded with OS X 10.3 it would have made a perfectly good computer for a family who couldn't afford to buy one. "What's one less crappy computer in the world?" you ask. It's one less computer someone could use...
