- lukeo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+72just turn off apple in your options if you don't want to read about them. its not hard. easier than posting 'ENOUGH APPLE *****'....
- Hace, on 10/12/2007, -0/+24Naturally Wikipedia has a nice entry on Santa Rosa (aka Centrino Pro): http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Centrino#Santa_Rosa_platform_.282007.29
But it essentially boils down to these:
- A better, Pixel Shader Model 3.0 compatible integrated graphics card (Intel Mobile 965 Express) with unified pipelines (read more here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intel_GMA#GMA_X3000 )
- A second generation Core 2 Duo processor
- A faster, 800MHz front side bus
- Flash memory caching (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robson_flash_memory)
- Better power saving features - billdcat, on 10/12/2007, -3/+24Don't you mean every six months? (http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#MacBook_Pro)
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -4/+23flag564 trolling an Apple post because he has nothing better to do coming very soon? oh wait...
- msgyrd, on 10/12/2007, -3/+20The Mac Mini isn't their cutting edge consumer option, it's their entry-level/bargain purchase. The iMac is their consumer desktop performer.
- fLUx1337, on 10/12/2007, -1/+17damn, yet another thing to wait for! :P
First it was Core *2* duo, then Leopard, then new LED backlit screens, and now santa rosa?!
I AM going to get a macbook one day.... lol
All I want is my macbook to have:
- LED backlit screen
- Leopard
- Centrino Pro
....then I will buy one!! - jholland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15If you aren't an apple user and don't want to here about it than ignore the articles. I however am an Apple user, and I am waiting between now and WWDC to see if there is anything new coming out. So for me Digg is a good source for rumors of what is coming out. It may be worthless news to you, but it is important news for me.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14An Intel chipset.
- duel1ghz, on 10/12/2007, -6/+18because its a Mac Mini....
- r3zonance, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9"Will we have to wait nearly three months for Centrino Pro?"
Centrino = Intel CPU + Intel WiFi, so you probably won't see Centrino in a Mac, as they have some deal thing with Broadcom or someone for a while. - jer2eydevil88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9@schnuck
They haven't changed the look because the Powerbook/MBP's aluminum chassis is just damn sexy. It may not be the most durable thing in the world but it certainly isn't hard on the eyes and that helps it sell. - pauleric, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Still, I'd like to buy a mac-mini form factor with a core 2 duo, i.e. without the integrated monitor. And I'd like something in the iMac price range with expansion slots (even if only two slots) like the Pro. The customizability of MS PC's is a big advantage for MS.
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Apple's laptops are not Centrino laptops. They use their own wireless chips.
- zenlunatic, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11what is santa rosa? tia
- lou2005, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I think everything points to an announcement on or just after the WWDC and a shipping date soon after that. Then I would guess one by one all the computers will get updates, the timing of Leopard showing up in the computers might affect the timing. I don't know if people will buy a new computer if Leopard is just a few months off. but then again new computers could offset a sales dip that probably would occur in the months before Leopard. Summertime is usually when college students buy their computers which I think is a factor but I'm not sure what it means. And I think Apple has sold computers with free OS upgrade coupons before so maybe they could do that. As usual with Apple its hard to predict.
- Greenline, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I for one at least learned what this Santa Rosa buisiness is all about that I have been reading on the blogs
- JimmyG10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Apple's laptops are not Centrino laptops. They use their own wireless chips."
agreed.
But it seems like a cool idea. I think they should make a 12" Macbook Pro with this feature. The best laptop I ever owned was a 12" powerbook. - MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4flag,
This is why you get dugg down. Not because you're an obvious Apple troll, but because you are constantly pointing out the obvious. Who cares if it's OBVIOUSLY speculation? Gizmodo quoting ThinkSecret (a truly awful site. Why anyone bothers to believe that nonsense is beyond me) or other sites of that ilk doesn't make it anymore real. It's mostly people posting what they WANT to believe Apple's going to come out with next. As long as you don't take it seriously, where's the harm?
Let it go. Find a better use for your time than trying to police digg. Ain't gonna happen. - theblacknight, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3streak is right. If you don't count the introduction of the 17" models, updates to the 15" macbook pro happen about every 8-9 months. Visit http://buyersguide.macrumors.com/#MacBook_Pro but do the thinking yourself.
If they are going to be putting in LED backlights in this year, as indicated in Steve's statement on going green, they will either update twice more in 2007 (which I find unlikely but possible) or they'll update over the summer in time for back-to-school purchases with the LED backlights and Santa Rosa technology. Since I'll be getting one in the fall and I'd really like it to have an LED backlight. - Dweller99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3BREAKING: Something new may or may not be coming based on advances in technology!
- Elranzer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Actually the MacBook Pros have been using Atheros chips in their Airport cards lately.
- Rotorblade, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@fLUx
But once everything that you want in your MacBook is available, there will be more, better options coming down the pipes.
Like the new Penryn Intel chips for example (somewhat faster, less power consumption, etc.). Or solid state hard drives. Or Blu-Ray disc drives. The list of new technologies on the horizon that may be just as appealing are never ending.
I took a gamble and bought my MacBook back in February - betting that Leopard would not arrive until the end of spring and that Santa Rosa would not come out until WWDC. And I cannot tell you how glad I am that I decided not to wait around for either of those releases. - lilrabbit129, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'll buck the trend and say that, though I like the aluminum cases, I agree its time for something new. My 4 year old powerbook is aluminum. Apple is known for innovation, and one of the things that catches people's eye about them is their amazing cases. Its time for something new for people to gawk at.
May I make a suggestion? Black anodized aluminium (basically the like the black ipod nano). - JetwingX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3For someone who actually lives in the city of santa rosa. The title of this article is rather confusing
1) it's the name of a City
2) it has an Apple Store
http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=Apple+Store+Santa+Rosa&ie=UTF8&ll=38.445254,-122.710419&spn=0.075558,0.111752&z=13&iwloc=A&om=1 - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2In other news, all new macbook owners just got pwnd
- theprez, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It is likely that when iMacs and Macbook get better processors, the Mac mini will get the chip the first two stopped using, unless of course there's a huge overall change and Intel makes a better (and less expensive) low-end chip.
- monstersandeep, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Is this news? If itnel comes out with an improved platform, Apple will have it in the future models after sometime..why this hype..this is to be expected...
- *jooloop*, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I did, and was utterly confused until I read the article
- bbardlbradd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@exslashdotter
That's just stupid. Not everyone needs a 64bit processor, why would they give everyone a 64bit CPU, especially aimed at the Mac Mini consumer base???... It's the cheapest Mac available, not a powerhouse. Also, just b/c an OS can operate at 64bit, doesn't mean the hardware has to match.
Think about the older PPCs, they are 32bit (mostly), and Leopard IS backwards compatible. - phatman96, on 10/26/2009, -0/+0Great article
http://www.megafoo.com/web/lilianainternational.co ...
http://www.lilianainternational.com - streak, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Yes, you'll have to wait 3 months (or more) for "Centrino Pro", but if it's plain vanilla Santa Rosa you want, you'll probably get it in mid June to early July.
- lrdntwnd, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1I'd just like to point out that Apple has never used Centrino in their Intel notebook nor do they use any of Intel's other chipset systems like vPro or Viiv. I think it would be very unlikely for Apple to start using Santa Rosa. They may take advantage of faster Core 2 Duo processors and a chipset with better power management, but I really don't think they'll use Intel wireless.
- pyrates, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1And while mac users wait for Apple to release a new notebook, us PC users don't have to wait at all.
- chotty, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0"If you aren't an apple user and don't want to here about it than ignore the articles."
--- Maybe he doesn't want to HEAR about it either. - itsme92, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2And while PC users wait for their anti-virus and anti-spyware scans to finish, Mac users don't have to wait at all.
- jrbrewin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2everything points to it? you mean the odd speculative posts in blogsphere and a post to digg with a question mark at the end? I read it on digg/gizmodo, it must be true!
- invinciblenow, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1@schnuck
Don't drink in the morning, it affects your ability to convey ideas coherently. - feelmydisease, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1dugg down for obvious homoerotic overtones....
- ExSlashdotter, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1@msgyrd
Doesnt matter. Leopard is full 64bit, and you can bet your bottom dollar that all new macs will be 64bit come leopard release. The mini is currently the only new mac still on a 32bit platform.
The mini will at LEAST go to core2 at WWDC, if not get upgraded to the same platform as the macbook/imac. Trust me, i work for an apple dev, and we go to each wwdc. - qmeister, on 10/12/2007, -8/+2@willynilly - Here Here....who the hell uses these crappy machines anyway...
- schnuck, on 10/12/2007, -9/+3absolutely same here. i am waiting since ages. but you have something missing on your list, another thing i am waiting for!
- a new casing for the mbp
the mbp still comes in the same old casing as the last powerbook and it want a change.
so:
- LED backlit screen
- Leopard
- Centrino Pro
- new casing
...then i will buy two!! - rauz, on 10/12/2007, -14/+7wrong. digg me down.
- k3nt, on 10/12/2007, -11/+4anyone else read the title as 'Apple Macbook with Santa Claus coming very soon?'
xD - zenlunatic, on 10/12/2007, -12/+3so why is this a good thing, besides being new and from apple (always seems to be very important)?
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -18/+9No, I meant 9 months. And that's a pretty damn good schedule, for a technology company that pushes for growth.
- streak, on 10/12/2007, -22/+8Apple typically updates the various models in its product line every 9 months, and no sooner. That would put a MacBook/Pro refresh in July. And a possible mention at WWDC. Santa Rosa will be sweet, with its full 64-bit architecture (not just the CPU), providing support for more than 3 GB memory.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -19/+3I guess I've pointed out the obvious again.
It seems that half of the articles about Apple are just some guy asking a question and it gets posted as an actual news item. - wush, on 10/12/2007, -20/+3I don't think they're concerned about being on the cutting edge with their "consumer" systems. Look at the Mac mini - it still doesn't even have Core 2 Duo.
- Gee1004, on 10/12/2007, -22/+0We won't see nothing soon. Apple has a hard-on for the iPhone. Maybe around October-November
