- digg it
- neiltc13, on 10/10/2007, -66/+228/7? You mean 7/8, right?
Why not be clearer and say August 7th or 7th August or something?- jandsroberts, on 10/10/2007, -8/+43In America, it's 8/7
Anyway, I've been holding off on a Mac purchase, so I hope it's something good!- neiltc13, on 10/10/2007, -30/+14The internet ≠ America.
- macbwizard, on 10/10/2007, -19/+9Wrong. America invented the internet.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -6/+16And a Brit invented the web.
- GiggleStick, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1This is actually supposed to be a reply to meatmcquffin, but "Your session has expired.... yada yada yada"
But didn't that Brit invent it in Switzerland? This is getting freakin' weird. - meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Yup, and a Belgian helped. It's all pretty strange
- Chewie67, on 10/10/2007, -9/+16Wrong. Al Gore invented the Internet.
- Jrr6415sun, on 10/10/2007, -9/+7well apple is based in America, so 8/7 would be correct.
- mucnix, on 10/10/2007, -3/+7the Internet ≠ wherever you're from either
- Sidzilla, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3Whether you like it or not, America pretty much rules the internet. I'm not saying it's a good thing, just that it is true. Resistance is futile.
- MacEnvy, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Until the Chinese get their asses in gear. Then we're screwed.
- macbwizard, on 10/10/2007, -19/+9Wrong. America invented the internet.
- pipes27, on 10/10/2007, -6/+10Apple = An American company.
- neiltc13, on 10/10/2007, -30/+14The internet ≠ America.
- jandsroberts, on 10/10/2007, -3/+26Maybe not, but this event IS in America
- djpants428, on 10/10/2007, -4/+41"Why not be clearer"
You're right, I totally thought that it was not for 8/7, next tuesday, but rather 8/7 the 8th of july... I was wondering how they managed to make Time Machine actually work so they hold an event in the past.. Pretty sure this means the new imacs will require 1.21 jiggawatts of power to operate.. - meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -11/+28Going mm / dd / yyy is a stupid date format; There's a lot more logic in using purely big or litte-endian rather than a mix.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Date_and_time_notation_by_country- KibibyteBrain, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3Or do what the Japanese do: use characters to mark the date components. One of the nice things about kanji is that it only takes 1 character for 年 (nenn or year), 月("gatsu" or month) and 日("bi" or day), which is the same amount of characters we use as the "/" or "-" which are ambiguous! so the date in japanese would be 2007年8月7日.
- 5555, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Like most Japanese, it's actually adopted from Chinese: 年 nian 月 yue 日 ri
- InsomniaSlim, on 10/10/2007, -11/+6Actually, it makes perfect sense if you read it out loud: August 7th, 2007.
- gidd, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6Unless you read it out as 7th (of) August, 2007, which I believe is common outside the US.
- DiggMasterJ, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3We like to do things Unilaterally.

- crazybrit, on 10/10/2007, -34/+4***** you, Frenchie.
- MrSunshine, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4"Is crazybrit being offensive? Report it"
"Thanks! Your report has been sent."
- MrSunshine, on 10/10/2007, -4/+4"Is crazybrit being offensive? Report it"
- mrfreeziexp, on 10/10/2007, -12/+2it seems dumb to debut new macs this close to leopard...
- bastian89, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Are you kidding?
- Sprules04, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12I think he means that if Apple happens to launch new Macs next tuesday then it is a little awkward because it's two month before the release of leopard. So if you buy one these new macs next week then you have to buy Leopard in October, unless Apple gives you a certificate or something to get Leopard for free in October.
- aaronmcdonald, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2But knowing Apple they will just announce it and leave us waiting till October till we can our hands on it!
- samdu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Chances are that if Leopard comes out less than six months after new Macs, Apple will include a voucher for a free upgrade. No biggie.
- neiltc13, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1It's not as if Leopard is actually worth buying or expensive.
- jandsroberts, on 10/10/2007, -8/+43In America, it's 8/7
- Quickdood, on 10/10/2007, -8/+63Looks like those iMac rumors were right on the money!
- bSimms, on 10/10/2007, -5/+43yes, since the invitation clearly stated "new brushed aluminum imacs are going to be announced, as well as a new slim keyboard modeled after our macbook keyboards. oh and we are changing the layout on the keyboard too. so stop on by!"
- MauiMac, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1"yes, since the invitation clearly stated "new brushed aluminum imacs are going to be announced, as well as a new slim keyboard modeled after our macbook keyboards. oh and we are changing the layout on the keyboard too. so stop on by!""
It did?...- ripdog, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4*headdesk*
- jbus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4It's anodized aluminum not brushed. There is a very big difference.
- mollerade, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2you mean one is silver looking, and the other is... er.. silver looking?
- MauiMac, on 10/10/2007, -8/+1"yes, since the invitation clearly stated "new brushed aluminum imacs are going to be announced, as well as a new slim keyboard modeled after our macbook keyboards. oh and we are changing the layout on the keyboard too. so stop on by!""
- over9, on 10/10/2007, -16/+3I bet it's to announce the patch to the iPhone exploit
- Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9That patch already came out: http://www.engadget.com/2007/07/31/apple-iphone-update-1-0-1-released/
- Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Yeah before all the people come up with their crazy predictions, I'm sticking with the iMac thing.
- crazybrit, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7It's been too long since the last update, so I'm guessing there'll be a new iMac. And possibly a new iLife, but that might have to wait until Leopard.
- donwilson2, on 10/10/2007, -1/+9If they release a new MacBook, I'm going to be so god damn pissed off.
- tracydanger, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1If this prediction is right, I'm cool (if it's wrong, I'm still cool): http://tracydhall.googlepages.com/tech
- Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -7/+43I ordered my Macbook Pro over a week ago and they say they wont ship it until Aug 6th, so my guess is that there will be an iLife announcement along with the new iMacs and thats what my mac is waiting on.
- SoBayJake, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7MacBook Pros have had a 7-10 business day shipping time for a while now. I ordered on the 18th, and mine shipped on the 31st, which is 9 days.
I doubt Apple would hold up sending off a computer to save a person from buying iLife. They'd rather get it out the door, charge your card, and either offer it to you for a small fee, or have you buy it for the full price.- Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3but those are the 15 inch models I got a 17 inch (With High Resolution Matte Screen and 250GB HD)
- tidu, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5I ordered one too, july 27th. just my luck if something is improved the day after I get my laptop.
- dandonia, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1"I ordered on the 18th, and mine shipped on the 31st, which is 9 days."
was you been sarci an i missed it or just plain retared
and they might have held off (unlikly though i agree) because when you buy something you have a certain period of time where if the price changes or a better package becomes available for a cheaper price you can return or get the difference returned which is more hassle then just putting someone on hold. Still i doubt its the case
- SoBayJake, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7MacBook Pros have had a 7-10 business day shipping time for a while now. I ordered on the 18th, and mine shipped on the 31st, which is 9 days.
- TomPlansMedia, on 10/10/2007, -26/+3still no word on whether Jesus Jobs will be the presenter...
- zioxide, on 10/10/2007, -10/+3If not there, there won't be an iMac update.
- IShouldBeWorkin, on 10/10/2007, -24/+5So to briefly sum up the rumor mill here, the top 3 candidates (in order) to potentially be unveiled here are
1. New iMacs
2. New iPods
3. New mini/cheaper-iPhone
did i miss any?- bSimms, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13read the article, it says theres no chance of it being iphone related
but otherwise, I'd say imacs and ipods are at the top, yes. - Shorties, on 10/10/2007, -1/+12If you read the article # 2 and 3 are out of the question. But you missed possible new iLife and maybe new iWork.
- danielwsmithee, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2Possibly discontinued mini, but I doubt they will announce that. It will just disappear from the site. With all the recent news of game publishers developing for the Mac I could see them updating the Mac Pro with new Video Cards and possibly a single processor option.
- madmage, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Why would Apple discontinue one of their most popular product lines? I could see new video cards in the iMac, MBP and Mac Pro (Probably that an 8000 series Gforce card). But let me know why I would want a Core Solo or just one Core 2 Duo in my gaming rig? Almost everything is Quad Core now.
- lobbster, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2the mini is discontinued. the nano replaced it. but if you are refering to the nano (eg there smaller flash based players) then i dont know what your smoking. the nanos are considerably more popular then the ipods.
- irgeorge, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Mac mini my friend, not iPod...

- fanclerks, on 10/10/2007, -20/+1Sweet! I hope this means a new MacBook Pro and a 6G iPod. I've been holding off on buying them because of the rumors. Here's basically what I'm hoping for most:
1. new MacBook Pro
2. new 6G touch-screen iPod
3. new iLife suite
4. also that all there computers shipped from the 7th on have a coupon for Leopard- zioxide, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11None of that is going to happen. The MBP was just updated less than 2 months ago and it currently has top of the line parts. There's nothing to update it too.
iPods are always released in the fall after the back-to-school deal.- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1digg down - misread x_X
- nhinsch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15RTFA! It says that there will be ZERO iPhone and iPod-related announcements. This is a MAC event.
- udahlen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Of course the will be no MacBook Pro updates. It was just updated. Regarding iPods: probably not, since the invitation said "Mac related", but not out of the question. My guess would be new iMacs.
- MixedSpleens, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1While I think the new iMac is the most likely a small MacBook Pro isn't out of the question I know a couple people now that are holding on to their 12" powerbooks as they are still waiting for a smaller MBP. that being said the macbook does kind of fit that space, and it is a nice computer despite the fact that it is their non pro line. I think we will see it when we see it, and ruling anything out, or getting your hopes up for something specific is risky business.
- madmage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Way back at the beginning of the year Apple said "Welcome to the year of the Mac" The first six months were iPhone. They have a lot of work to do to make up for that.
- zioxide, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11None of that is going to happen. The MBP was just updated less than 2 months ago and it currently has top of the line parts. There's nothing to update it too.
- spiffyfitz, on 10/10/2007, -3/+21I'll sit here and hold my breath for a Mac Pro refresh... sigh...
- festivalman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yeah me too. The mac pro's are perfect except for having a direct x 10 compatible board. I've been holding off on getting one until they ship something that'll play crysis in bootcamp with all the features turned on.
- spiffyfitz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I'm in the same situation.
Also X1900 doesn't quite cut what I want out of Zbrush and Maya.- MixedSpleens, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I highly doubt that Apple gives a flying fruit about DX10.
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1No, but they give a whole salad about speed -- and currently, it's the DX10 cards that holds that crown.
Also, given the brewing rumors (yes, yes, I know...) they're probably going to/need to go for a HDCP-compliant card in their desktops, like they've started doing with the MBPs, which again means going for one of the DX10-cards for simplicity.
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1No, but they give a whole salad about speed -- and currently, it's the DX10 cards that holds that crown.
- madmage, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Open GL is moving forward to, plus all the cards in Macs for the past five years have been DirectX compatible, even before the switch to Intel.
- zeejay, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2*****... upgrade the graphics card later. You'll get a great price for your used X1900 when you do. The Octo-Mac is a freaking barn-burner for Maya renders.
- BrainInAJar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1caveat: i don't own an intel based mac
that said, the big problem with running bog-standard PC video cards in a mac previously wasn't anything to do with endianess or CPU architecture, it was the lack of PC-BIOS, which video cards require to initialize properly.
Current intel-based macintoshes are EFI based.... they still have no PC-BIOS, so I'm not certain you /can/ upgrade the card, except with cards that apple sells
- BrainInAJar, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1caveat: i don't own an intel based mac
- MixedSpleens, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8I highly doubt that Apple gives a flying fruit about DX10.
- spiffyfitz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I'm in the same situation.
- robounix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2The MBP were just refreshed with new processors and video cards less then two months ago. The 8600 GT is a DirectX 10 card - though I doubt you'll want to try to play crysis with it.
- festivalman, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3yeah me too. The mac pro's are perfect except for having a direct x 10 compatible board. I've been holding off on getting one until they ship something that'll play crysis in bootcamp with all the features turned on.
- zioxide, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24New iMacs.
- mkgm1, on 10/10/2007, -4/+51"Mac products only"..so presumably no iPods.
- Ireland, on 10/10/2007, -0/+11How'd you guess?
- etandrib, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Why would Apple release new iPods during their student iPod giveaway? They always wait for the school promotion to be over before releasing the latest and greatest.
- stalefries, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Actually, they released the new Nanos during the last few days of last year's promotional.
- nerd05, on 10/10/2007, -4/+3Well, if an iPod were running OS X, wouldn't that make it a Mac? ;)
Okay, I know there won't be one. It's too soon after iPhone. - miniboss, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Don't act like you somehow know a thing about what they're doing. You're making an obvious guess which will probably be true but Apple clearly follows its own rules.
- Jeffler, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2MacPod?
- iZealot, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Oh and one more thing
- onceinawhile, on 10/10/2007, -22/+1How about they present my broken plagued-with-problems MacBook and show what potential Mac customers will really end up with.
- billymonster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8how about you present your macbook to the geniuses at the apple store, as per your year warranty, instead of e-whinning about it
- onceinawhile, on 10/10/2007, -4/+2How about I have, and I've had to get it fixed at least three times.
- ZebraCrew, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3i don't know how you screwed up your MacBook but i've had mine for a year and never had any problems that i didn't create(then fix myself).
- onceinawhile, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I had the random shutdown issue, and now it won't sleep and it just makes noises and whatnot. I know I didn't cause these problems.
- Dumbledorito, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Just checking, here: Admission of Mac problems are discounted if another Mac user then claims near-faultess computing experience.
Yet the same credibility doesn't get extended to users of other, more popular, operating systems. Is that right? - Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2^^ What he said. Your lack of problems with the MB are irrelevant. His problems with his MB are not.
- billymonster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8how about you present your macbook to the geniuses at the apple store, as per your year warranty, instead of e-whinning about it
- kaiserollofdoom, on 10/10/2007, -9/+4Guys iPods updates are done in September and would be held in something a lot bigger than Apple Town Hall. It would be done in the Moscone Center. It's something smallish, probably software updates (iLife/iWork) or new small announcements. No new iPods, possibly new iMacs. Any new hardware will be peripheral in nature (excluding iPod based peripherals)
- russh, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Uh, unless I am having a brain cloud moment, I believe in ORIGINAL ipod intro was presented in a small venue, possibly even the Apple Town Hall?
- capecodcarl, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2Could it be the rumored 3G iPhone 2.0 that works with any GSM provider throughout the world, comes with 64GB of flash, and a user-replaceable battery that we've all been lusting after all these months since its initial release? Oh we can only hope... oh please oh please oh please!
- russh, on 10/10/2007, -4/+1Uh, unless I am having a brain cloud moment, I believe in ORIGINAL ipod intro was presented in a small venue, possibly even the Apple Town Hall?
- onceinawhile, on 10/10/2007, -22/+1How about they present my plagued-with-problems MacBook and show potential Mac customers what they'll really end up with.
- billymonster, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11how about you hit your submit comment button once, or not at all.
- Bilbobaggins, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8I think there will definitely be new iMacs. Maybe a new Mac Mini? I just got my iMac in May, so it'll be cool to see the new design and wish I had waited for it.
- cyanide37, on 10/10/2007, -3/+41STOP wishing for an Macbook Pro update when they just got updated about 7 weeks ago!!!
- MixedSpleens, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2They still have a hole in their line though! I don't think the 15 or 17 will be updated, but there is an outside small chance that a 12 inch could make a much anticipated return to the line up.
- MrSunshine, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I want a 20" Macbook. I need something usable unlike a 12" plate.
- timusca, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1Hammer Time!
- MixedSpleens, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2They still have a hole in their line though! I don't think the 15 or 17 will be updated, but there is an outside small chance that a 12 inch could make a much anticipated return to the line up.
- wonderchemist, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11Figures, I just got a new Mac...
- etandrib, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8They were waiting for you to purchase before announcing. You can take it back within 14 days if you want.…
- ttamshadbolt, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Is that you Leo?
- CATSCEO, on 10/10/2007, -7/+4*igasum*
Anyway, I hope for the new keyboard because this Apple KB is crapping out. - ienjoythebeach, on 10/10/2007, -16/+82i bet they introduce the iPhone
- TheWorm, on 10/10/2007, -13/+1You're a little late their chief. Now if you want to get dugg up predict new imacs!
- cyfer2000, on 10/10/2007, -5/+3apparently this is a joke.
- mozzep, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8nah, they'll release iPhone 2
- dandonia, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2d d duh not iPhone 2
iPhone 2.0 like gawd man get with the times- neoian, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2I'm going to become rich and famous after I invent a device that allows you to stab people in the face over the internet
- dandonia, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2d d duh not iPhone 2
- ttamshadbolt, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8Wouldn't be called the iPhone... Cisco own that trademark.
- titlesaysitall, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2For it will be called the iPwn.
- Drewboy64, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1iPhone 1.5G! Like the stupid 5.5 G ipod but better! ... jk
- boyasunder, on 10/10/2007, -1/+24Wait, I'm confused, where are the comments bitching that they couldn't possibly care about Apple and therefore no one should have dugg this story?
I mean, that's like required in the Digg Constitution, isn't it? - terrordome, on 10/10/2007, -10/+2Multitouch WiFi iPod and Wireless iTunes Store, here we go!
- ScrabbyDoo, on 10/10/2007, -11/+2Town Hall, small event, definitely just the iLife '08 announcement.
http://www.macrumors.com/2007/07/30/apple-iwork-08/
I know how the mac community likes to work itself into a frenzy, and when it happens, they cry "That's All?!!". Relax, dudes, this is not a one-more-thing event. - zwei, on 10/10/2007, -7/+11I got a 24" iMac 10 months ago. I have 3 or so years left before I get a new one again. I am happy that they waited this long before redesigning it ...but they didn't have to choose my birthday as the day they will make my system obsolete! :(
- undersky, on 10/10/2007, -13/+2ur system trust me will not be obsolete in a long long time. maybe u need to find a dictionary
- knightboat, on 10/10/2007, -3/+3what.
- undersky, on 10/10/2007, -13/+2ur system trust me will not be obsolete in a long long time. maybe u need to find a dictionary
- undersky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+39wow...an article that can use the word "Confirmed" in its title correctly yet does not actually use it....
- kevnaca, on 10/10/2007, -10/+2I believe i hear new iPods and of course iMacs!
- Mikey9oo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+11I am excited. I don't understand the "i'm waiting for a Mac Pro refresh" comment. WTF? The Mac pro casing is fine, great in fact.....they just upgraded to Octocore processors a couple months ago. What are you waiting for??? That comment is just dumb.
I am excited to see what they have done with the iMac...I think it is pretty much a given. And, I want that new keyboard for my Mac Pro.- almalax19, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3New GPU's are long overdue.
- robounix, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The GPUs are fine (for a MBP). They switched out the X1600 for the Geforce 8600GT a few months back.
- almalax19, on 10/10/2007, -2/+3New GPU's are long overdue.
- BWhaler, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5It says "product" launch, with a singular noun.
I think it's the iMac, and only the iMac. The rumor sites and Apple fans always expect too much.- Kratisto, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Products Launch? No... Wrong.
- jd91dc, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Wrong Sir, Wrong
- Mikey9oo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Oh, and to that comment about them waiting to put ilife 08 in you macbook pro because it ships August 6th.....would not bet on it. I ordered a Mac Pro for my office yesterday and it ships August 3rd. I doubt they would put it in your macbook pro and not my Mac Pro. But, maybe we will both get a happy surprise.
- naonao, on 10/10/2007, -5/+2I hope it isn't the keyboard thats been floating around the net, I'm really, REALLY not fond of that.
- astrosmash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3How can you say that? You've never used it or even seen it yet.
- TheRealDeal, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1So you've used it?
- mtheoryx83, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2I like my MacBook's keyboard just fine; however, I would not buy an Apple keyboard. I have a Microsoft keyboard and mouse that I adore. And yes, I'll concede that Microsoft does make some damn fine keyboards and mice.
- capran, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I agree, Microsoft's keyboards and mice are great, although I actually prefer Logitech's mice more. Apple's offerings, on the other hand, are crap. Back in the 90's they made a couple great keyboards, including the awesome split ergonomic one. Then Steve Jobs came back and the keyboards and mice became just eye candy and crap to use.
- over9, on 10/10/2007, -8/+3When the ***** are they going to patch the iPhone exploit?
- lemas1, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0calm down.... booswaba, booswaba...
they will release it when its ready and perfect. No point releasing a half assed solution.
Apple will likely release it thru the itunes store and wont make a big deal about it. if you have ur iphone set to autosync then it should be a breeze. - steamedlice, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Why... do you feel exploited?

- straymute, on 10/10/2007, -1/+0Mac Pro is for Pro-fessionals. People with budgets and deadlines and critical business needs.
iMac Pro is for Prosumers. People who have the money to buy Final Cut and Photoshop but don't want to worry about video cards and internal storage devices.- manitoba98xp, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2I'd like you to meet the 24" iMac.

- lawton992, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4It might suck for Colorware, but how about iMacs coming in different colors? It would be a great feature to add on to the rumored (but probably true) brushed metal keyboards and Macs. IMO, the new keyboard would look a lot better with black keys.
- quikboy, on 10/10/2007, -8/+2Yay! More news about new Macs hitting the Digg community. I guess you guys wouldn't be interested in hearing the new Vaios hitting Sony stores, or that super cool laptop being made from LG.
But who am I to bother with all these happy Mac fans?- astrosmash, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6If Sony and LG produced better, more exciting products (and less root kits) perhaps more people would get excited about them.
- mrbroox, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2There will always the the burden of windoze...
- lobbster, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2LG!! i will never buy a LG anything. most poorly made rubbish ***** ever. i would rather get a mac

- patrickloggins, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7I'm glad they actually are keeping up with the Mac crowd after the whole pushing Leopard back for the iPhone thing. Obviously, they were right in needing to push the iPhone up (look at their sales), so it's great that the Mac has its own event here.
I wonder if they'll ever change the iMac name to just Mac. It would adhere to their naming system, but they always say stuff like "Choose your Mac", and having a "Mac" product in the choices is kind of confusing. I personally like the iMac name. - taylorcarrigan, on 04/02/2008, -4/+0I'm reallllly excited for this. I hope they do a webcast, but I doubt they will.

Still though, I kind of want a Macbook. Stupid decisions.- tracydanger, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1Comes down to how often you would use it while out and about. I personally much prefer a larger screen - I love my iMac and instead of getting a Macbook, I'm much more likely to get a smart phone to get info on the go. Most of my computing takes place at home.

- USB2point0, on 10/10/2007, -4/+0hmm... Apple if you don't give me a new iPod and another opportunity for you to get my money then......
wait, oh yeah, they want me to buy the iPhone which is the best iPod ever.... [right]
Apple very well might have something up their sleeve. If they didn't say that it was "Mac Only," then people would be less inclined to buy iPhones and wait for possible iPods. Remember, they could classify iPod as a MAC accessory.- TheMongo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2They could.. but they don't.
- Matrix_Prime, on 10/10/2007, -0/+9WOOHOO! About time. Now I can get my first Mac. Goodbye Windows!
On a related note...do local Apple stores have products the day they are announced? Can I just walk into my local Apple store (which is brand new, never been there myself yet), and purchase one, or do they get their stock sometime after the announcement?- nhinsch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7It depends on the specific product. It could be anywhere from a day to a couple weeks. Steve will most likely say during his presentation when each product will ship.

- macxprt, on 10/10/2007, -1/+8The way i tell if Apple is coming out with new or upgraded hardware is to check if Leo Laporte just bought one. If so, new products coming down the pike, baby!!
- Kindjal, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1I am looking forward to it. The impact apple has on current developments in the PC area is not to be taken lightly. I am not saying that they are the best or the most innovative. What i am saying is they change the way we look at PC's. And since a Mac Pro can run both operating systems i saw a lot of people 'switch' just because they like the design. I know it is a mute point in the end, but that is what apple does best. Create consumer devices that look good and work as advertised.
- MavRevMatt, on 10/10/2007, -10/+4To all mac fanboys: Have fun spending another 1,000 ***** dollars on an iMac.
- Longmover, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3I will :-) I've been looking forward to this for ages. Have fun with your blue screens and malware...
- Tippis, on 10/10/2007, -3/+1See, this is why so many actually stay with windows: they're not stupid enough to get blue screens and malware all the time, unlike those who really need a drool-proof computer. In fact, unless you thoroughly abuse your windows box, through incompetence or malice, BSODs and malware are about as common in windows as they are under OSX.
- quik22, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1uh, no. you're wrong. thanks for playing though!

- rglover, on 10/10/2007, -2/+1I'm hoping that they also unveil some information about upgraded macbooks. Eventhough they just upgraded them a little bit ago, I was surprised to see a rumor pop up on techcrunch?
- lijamez, on 10/10/2007, -2/+0If, for some reason, a new iPod was to come out, does anyone think it'll be valid for the Education Discount?
- seaners, on 10/10/2007, -1/+1well they have specially said it won't...
- miniboss, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4Anyone think it will be a Mac Mini update? That's probably the oldest hardware design so if they aren't discontinuing it then it's due for a change. (And I just bought one on eBay so it would figure it gets updated before I even receive it)
But then maybe the Mini really is dead. I have an Apple TV (which I'm returning) and I could see how that could be their new Mini-type device. It's a great product and if they could just add a blu-ray player into the next generation and it could be a really good unit to put under your TV.- crazybrit, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1I'm guessing they'll discontinue it, which would kinda suck. I wanted a Mini for a while, but now it's between a MacBook and an iMac. Hooray for getting $400 for my birthday!
- NeoRicen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1The only Mac to change design during the Intel transition was the MacBook. The Mac Pro and MacBook Pro have the oldest designs, followed by the iMac and Mac Mini.
- rustypirat3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+0The rumor is that theyre going to discontinue the mac mini (sadly) and are going to fill the gap it leaves with the imac as the general use PC
- mtheoryx83, on 10/10/2007, -2/+2Maybe a hybrid AppleTV/Mac Mini as an update to both? Just my guess.
- seaners, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1i think the mac mini will either die this year, or get something pretty radical done to it
- stalky14, on 10/10/2007, -0/+1If Mini sales are slow, it's because of its out-of-date design. It needs to at least be a MacBook minus the screen/keyboard.
