- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What are you talking about? Apple has acknowledged this! It's a heat sink design issue, and they are fixing them for free by putting in redesigned heat sinks. This fix reportedly works like a charm, so it's all good. You're not aware of this?
- JulianGarcia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2"Well, mine has worked flawlessly for months. This is obviously the users fault"...I don't see the logic behind the stament. Some macbooks are faulty, including mine, which was ordered as soon as the product was released. Macbooks recently ordered appear not to have the problem.
- Crumble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yes, it's a problem that only surfaces after a few months of use typically.
Ireland, Apple has not PROPERLY acknowledged this! All Apple did was to state the obvious: "If your MacBook is shutting down intermittently, please contact AppleCare for service!" Apple has never mentioned anything about a heat sink design issue. This is what we all think but Apple has not confirmed this! They are simply replacing heat sinks and logic boards in faulty MacBooks! And some MacBooks that are coming back from Apple repairs have the shut downs again after a few days!! - franklyshankly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0People ( like me ) who have had the heatsink "fixed" think the problem has gone, but for lots of us after 2-3 weeks of use the problem returns. Still think its the heatsink? Yes, we all love apple. I have a bunch iMacs which work like a charm, but this macbook is trouble. Apple dont even have parts to fix it! Wait.. I should "contact applecare", now why didnt I think of that before.
- macbookrss, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1exactly - I was the one that caused my heat sink to go bad after 4 weeks of use. I mean that is totally operator error.... lol
- cazabam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0If you call AppleCare or speak to the Genius team at the store, they will tell you. For some reason many people won't take that step of actually *following* the instructions on the web site.
I have no idea why the details are not on the support page, but to say that they have not confirmed it is silly. - flag564, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3Standard reply:

Oh and the shutdowns are not random, so I'm marking this story inaccurate.
