- chaosmachine, on 10/12/2007, -3/+50i've been "getting creative" on album pricing for a long time..
- crammaz, on 10/12/2007, -4/+43If this is true, then its great news!!!
Apple built iTunes and the iPod around consumers and what they want as opposed to record labels and what they desire.
That is why Apple is number 1 and that is why they will stay number 1. - Nodren, on 10/12/2007, -8/+36in other news, RIAA pulls all albums off itunes citing they just simply werent getting enough money.
- acumenprobitas, on 10/12/2007, -4/+25It's simple... utorrent.com. Then what you do is go to a concert and throw a handful of money at the band. That way the artist gets the money, and it isn't all stolen by corrupt record executives.
HAHAHA! I'm just kidding. Buy all your music from the store. I do. - nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+21Then everyone who used iTunes starts downloading music and the RIAA gets nothing at all. I'm pretty sure they know that, in a way they're stuck because any money is better than none at all. They can't pull out now.
- tommorris, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6@shawnanigans: Unlikely. Apple have already got a listing of what tracks you've bought. It'll just compare against their own database - and they'll print up "you've bought n tracks from the album, would you like to buy the album for $(albumprice - (n * 0.99))?"
This will kick ass if/when it happens. - dirtkahuna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This will be good for the artists. My band is on iTunes, and we sell many more singles than full albums. Hopefully, with this new structure people will come back and purchase the album. Also, for those who like DRM-free legal music, eMusic is a good deal if you digg non-mainstream artists.
- noliberalbull, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Thank God... its about time I didnt have to buy a song twice just to get it early
- TimDigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Apple(ipod) getting Creative(zen)........was this supposed to be a bad pun?
- bdbr, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Not charging you for the same song twice is "getting creative"? Its just finally getting iTunes to work the way it should...and it took them THREE years to do it.
- canyonblue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3This would be GREAT. Many times after the purchase of a few songs I want the whole album but decide the cost to redownload songs I got already isn't worth it.
- shawnanigans, on 10/12/2007, -9/+11I wonder if putting DRM on a song, or say 10 songs would get you the album free somehow. I'm not a cracker but I'm sure some sexy nerd will do it and I will follow.
- fripple, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you call Apple, they will let you re-download all of your purchased music, but only once a year.
- dirtkahuna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Dirt Surfers. We do instrumental rock, sorta surfy with a lot of metal influences.
- RobSaint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This'll be great if they do it for TV series as well. Cause so many times you buy 1 or 2 episodes and get hooked on a show, but don't wanna play the full season price as it includes episodes you already own.
- MikeZ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1coool
- RyeBrye, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If you buy an album, then lose all the song files due to an HD crash - will this let you "buy them again" for free?
- mabhatter, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0actually this would help the RIAA! There are some albums out there you download 3-4 songs, then realize you might like the whole thing. Under current iTunes rules if you want the special "extras" like album only songs you have to buy the whole thing over again. Apple offering a credit for songs already purchased will encourage more people to get the whole thing after trying a few songs... and excellent example of how the music can be market driven if the big music corps would just let it!
- marksy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3whos your band?
