- nilobject, on 10/12/2007, -4/+19I just ordered a MacBook and its ship date was pushed back to the 11th, which I think is a good indicator that something is amiss. "Slipping ship dates" is a common sign of revised products coming down the line.

"Apple Event Tricentennial? Movie Store?"
"Apple Event Stardate 47982.3? Movie Store?" - foovo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I want 8 inches.
- knowall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+11I think more likely, they are releasing the iTunes Movie Store and availability won't be in France... so why keynote in france?
Instead, US and maybe UK availablility. Hence the SF/London Keynote, even with Apple Expo Paris happening. - knowall, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10confirmed?

- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I want an 8GB touch-widescreen nano
- stuartjmoore, on 10/12/2007, -4/+714 day return policy... so go ahead

That's why it "slips" - Apple replaces your order with the new model and pushes back the ship date to the official launch of the new system. This way they can run out their old inventory and get ready for the updated machines. I just happened to be lucky enough to get in an order after they ran out of the old model. - jicon, on 10/12/2007, -11/+13RIP John Ritter... Sept 11, 2002
- C0MF0RTABLYnumb, on 10/12/2007, -5/+7I want an 8GB Nano.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Silly, they can't make bundles of cash from the MP3 players of other companies!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Netflix is a REAL movie store. Who cares about downloading DRM crippled , low resolution movies for $15 with no extas? Steve Jobs does because he knows there is one born every second.

Alright, I stand corrected. I didn't know about the 'shipping back' details, but it would be very interesting to know if anyone has experienced the same thing with ordering the Intel iMacs. I am planning on getting an iMac, but I want to wait it out to see if the Core 2 Duo Conroe processors will be released for the iMacs at the Paris Expo. Certainly getting stuck with the old models because they haven't sold all the original core iMacs yet would not be fun. - HornR52, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4You know what seems a little strange? Apple originally said there would not be a keynote "AT" the Paris Expo. This may be a little indication that "His Steveness" himself may be demonstrating a revised version of iSight to stream the keynote from CA. On top of that a number of people who have ordered Mac Mini's have seen their low-end Core Solo's upped to Core Duo's (A little hint, me thinks!). Add to that, the fact that t seems that Apple may have a deal to SELL (NOT RENT!!) Walt Disney movies through iTunes, there may be a possiblity of an update to the iPod line.

Thats most likely true. The iPOD mini was axed last year after they were given for free to students with there education discount. This years Nano promo was probably to help move stock, while enticing bigger purchases.
I would exspect a storage boost at the very least. Though the rumors of an anodized aluminum enclosed Nano, if true, would also help boost sales along with the storage boost.
Its to early in the year for Apples big iPOD offering, Generation 6 iPOD or the rumored video iPOD.
I also suspect they will also start using Core2 Duo chips in the Mac Mini and Macbook lineup. Just because the chip is out and last year they did a screen and cpu bump on the Powerbook G4
Apple has had a cycle for releasing new products the past 2 years and to be honest this would follow that. - freemdoom, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://digg.com/apple/New_iPods_prepared_to_ship_from_China_factory
- sakuraz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3YOU BUY DVD FOR DVD MENUS?
and no, DVDs look CRAP compared to HD trailers on the net.
Hell, they look ***** than HD broadcasts, and they're not even full HD - gyroscopic, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://digg.com/apple/No_Apple_invitation
- Jeffrin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A call to 1-800-MY-APPLE for the new AirPort Extreme card for people who have already purchased a Mac Pro produced a date for when Apple retail stores would be able to perform the installations: September 12.
- adamS, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3I don't see a revised iSight as having a huge market. All current Macs except the Mini and Pro have integrated iSights, so previous generations excepted, it would be redundant.
- brentzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Why digg him down?? He's mostly right on with this regarding France and the whole DRM battle Apple has just been through with them. That is precisely why the keynote is in San Fran and not in Paris.
- Niebieski, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I ordered a iMac 20" fully loaded (500GB, 2GB RAM, 256MB VRAM) on August 27th, which was supposed to ship in 7-10 business days. 7 business days = September 5, 10 business days = September 8. Now the Order Status page tells me "Estimated shipped by September 12th" Now Sept 12th is just 12 business days instead of 10, but it got me wondering after hearing about this keynote.
I can just pray they delayed it for a purpose if these Core 2 Duo rumors appear to be true :) Otherwise, "banging-head-against-closest-wall" here I come. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2APPLE EVENT: GAMING.
Just kidding. You know that's not possible. Go on- feed the troll. - brentzilla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0You're an idiot if you think that considering the mass amounts of products that are expected to come out soon and the fact that September and November are traditionally months in which Apple upgrades their products.
- sorbix, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Why do Apple press announces get relatively so much press coverage? They're probably just announcing new ipod accessories like the last time they had a special announcement.
- brentzilla, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0This is a bold statement by Steve Jobs that Apple is really, really pissed off at France(and other countries over there across the Atlantic) over the DRM battles that have been taking place. First, deciding not to have a keynote at Apple Expo. And now deciding to do a keynote anyways, but doing it from California instead. Ha!
- webonics, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2From reading the blogs and posts over the past weeks, I would guess that this announcement has something to do with the discontinuance of the current iPod Nano and probably the introduction of its successor. The current iPod Nano are supposed to be discontinued on Sept. 16.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2I hope Apple has something in the works better than this feature:
http://digg.com/tech_news/Microsoft_s_Windows_Vista_Fails_Speech_Recognition_Demo - bantam, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2i just really want the next iPod to come out, i love my nano for its size but i need a regular ipod to hold all of my music and videos but currently the screen is just to small to enjoy a tv show or movie.
- squenix1221, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2core 2 duo is supposed to be about a 25% increase over the current core duo...but the next core 2 duo (scheduled for release in 2007) is supposed to be a big upgrade
- MetalGod, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Apple constantly releases upgrades. With that mentality, you'll be out of money real fast :-)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I just bought a 15'' macbook pro 10 days ago... I wonder if the apple retail store will let me retun it a week after the return policy expires?
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Say it's too hot and demand a refund. I'd do that if mine wasn't a few months old.
- leonbev, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Hmm... How about not getting sued by the MPAA for a starter.
- darkyoshi, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1Apple Remote with improved battery life! (Has anyone needed to replace their battery yet?)
- HornR52, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2You make a good point.
- jobobshishkabob, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Ur screwed only if u wanted 64-bit... which i believe the core duos dont support and the core 2's do....
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3I got a MacBook at the begining of the summer. I'm willing to accept upgrades as an inevitable part of the circle of life. Computer life, that is. But I feel that I've had it long enough (before anything else has been out) to justify its pirchase.
- xRaph, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1just imagine... steve jobs launches the service in the US for the US live on an ichat stream, that could maybe change the mind of those who protest against drm in europe.... maybe it is to make them change their mind!!
- troon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0The date coincides with my birthday. Thanks Apple!
- fungifred, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Maybe Apple is making the statement that they really just want to screw france because france tried to screw the iPod. They will probably announce something really really great and not even acknowledge MacExpo.
- jgee, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Haha you make a fine point, maybe I'll try the stress test that was on digg earlier for macbooks and pray it breaks lol. They will prolly give me the older version anyway. Even if the new chips come out I'll still be happy with my macbook.
- OminousPotato, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Sounds pretty legit to me! I hope they announce a new iPod. I've been wanting a new on for a while now.
- runninmac, on 10/12/2007, -10/+6I'm sure once they introduce updated MacBooks your MacBook will magically stop working...
- krewenki, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Well, seeing as my Nano died the other day, maybe i'll wait for the 12 days before ordering a new iPod. That is, of course, assuming I have that much self control.
- melmyfinger, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2Core 2 Duo isn't a huge upgrade over the current chips. So, no, you're not screwed. (Of course, this is assuming they are releasing Core 2 Duo updates...we shall see.)
But if you're like me and can wait an extra couple weeks or so, then it'll definitely be worth it to wait and see what Apple has up its sleeve for the event. - Qoogirl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+0Even if it is a Movie Store--why would I buy it there if the quality sucks? It doesn't make sense to pay $2 for 45-60 minutes, then more than twice that price for only twice the amount of minutes. Does it? If I'm going to pay $9.99, I'd might as well buy it from a real store and get DVD menus, bonus features and more that look great on HDTV--which is where the future is (I can buy widescreen DVDs for the price of albums on iTunes from Wal-Mart instead, for crying out loud).
In other news--wanted a new, updated iPod nano. Have decided will probably buy that new MEIZU thing out from China once it's officially released here. - dizzledaking, on 10/12/2007, -11/+6Maybe he's announcing interoperability with other MP3 players!
