err... that's IE, in XP? - InitialDMP5, on 10/03/2008, -1/+12they did about 3 years ago. It has a scroll wheel too! pretty nifty!
- grav3k33p3r, on 10/02/2008, -0/+9The picture reminds me of pie menus in windows 7.
- rubaaan, on 10/03/2008, -1/+8lol i like where this is going!
im a pc and my commercial was made using a mac
im a mac, and i make patents on windows! - inactive, on 10/03/2008, -1/+8You are an idiot? You don know that all macs support right click and that the supplied mouse has right click too?
- mahenda, on 10/03/2008, -2/+8There's a second mouse button for years now ... it's only turned off by software by default, you can change it to suit your needs ...
- CobaltBlue, on 10/03/2008, -1/+7Damn. I use cursors in my programs. I guess I can expect a lawsuit from apple any day now.
- Junior612, on 10/03/2008, -0/+5QuickPorn
- AlienMushroom, on 10/03/2008, -4/+8Apple use Windows XP nowadays?
- MacParrot, on 10/03/2008, -1/+4Apple has supported multiple buttons on mice since System 8. You're an idiot. Next
- ilgaz, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3Standard Apple mouse has 4 buttons. Also I bet even the second one is rarely used.
- digitalpencil, on 10/03/2008, -0/+3firstly.. the mighty mouse sucks. it's about as ergonomic as a hedgehog, the side 'squeeze' buttons are ***** awkward and because the right click is some garbled sensor tech, you have to lift your finger off the left before it knows what the ***** just happened.. i also find the 3d scroll wheel ***** annoying but know people that like it so i'll let that one slide.
all of this though, is null and void given i use a logitech mx rev and have never found a mouse that doesn't work with os x. so let me reiterate this one more time.. despite apple being inherently incapable of creating a decent mouse (anyone remember that yo-yo thing?) every single mouse i've ever tried to use with os x, works with os x. - professorfurley, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2dumb.
- supermanred, on 10/04/2008, -0/+2Yeah I have Windows XP and Ubuntu on my Macbook, rarely use them though... Leopard so much faster on the same Intel hardware, it's ridiculous... ubuntu is faster than windows too, but not as functional as os x.
- InitialDMP5, on 10/03/2008, -1/+3wha?
- SteveSgt, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2How to add more RSI risk to a mouse user: Add more buttons.
I still use Apple's older "no button" mouse at home, while I was assigned some Logitec 2-button-plus-scroll-wheel mouse at a job. I can mouse around all day at home without any wrist fatigue. But with the multi-buttoned mouse, I start to feel it after a couple of hours.
The difference is that I use three fingers -- a motion involving my whole hand -- to press the mouse button on the Apple mouse. On the other mouse, I have to do that with one finger. - supermanred, on 10/04/2008, -0/+2Just like the new dock features introduced in Leopard, this looks to me to be a MULTI-TOUCH compatible feature... eliminating need to right click a file to select what app to open it in.
Im pretty sure "Snow Leopard" isn't what they claim it will be. It will be multi-touch compatible OS X... Can't wait! - digitalpencil, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2yeh, but that just switches the rendering engine.. not the browser and os.
- MtheoryX, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2This tired thing again?
- digitalpencil, on 10/03/2008, -0/+2^ err.. i've got a logitech mx and all the buttons work? i've got my lower click-wheel set to expose and my top button to close windows. Practically all logitech mice come with mac drivers and those that don't have open drivers.
- goeric, on 10/03/2008, -2/+3They should use it to buy a go-kart.
- ilgaz, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2No. Ask Logitech users. Maximum usable is 3 buttons where people barely uses 3rd one.
- vrillco, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2Why the hell do they need a patent for this ? Just do it already. Apple's really been getting on my nerves lately with all this hostile behavior.
They don't need patents to "protect" the Mac. They need to be competitive. PC makers don't have the luxury of patents to shut their opponents out - everyone plays on a level field, which is why prices have dropped so much; price drops that Apple itself benefits directly as their manufacturing costs are closely related to the market's health.
If PC's were to vanish tomorrow, Apple could not stay in business because they rely on PC component manufacturers to provide the parts that go in every Mac. Patenting anything in the system is counter-productive to their bottom line, over the long term. - bobloadmire, on 10/03/2008, -1/+2Yeah WTF is up with the XP/OS X demonstrations? I could make some anti-mac or anti-pc joke, but thats getting old.
- nkassi, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1Tell the patent office to look at ask.com. Case closed.
- burnblue, on 10/03/2008, -1/+21. The Web Page preview -- ALREADY done on the web and not that useful
2. The File 'Open With' options -- This IS a context menu. I guess they're just making up for not including a right-click button - ilgaz, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1I am a Logitech user near a decade too. What I mean is, unless some very special form is applied or guy is engineer running AutoCAD etc, even third button is rarely used let alone adding more buttons to device.
My scroll button is set to expose too.
If you closely follow your usage, you will notice OS X can be happily used by single button too. Even without mod key. MS has also designed Windows in a way that basic functionality can be used with single button. (Basic!) - MacParrot, on 10/03/2008, -0/+1Dude, this is software...not hardware. Whether or not it duplicates something that others do with javascript, flash, or by rubbing two sticks together really fast is something for the patent office to decide.
But yeah, this is pretty lame for a patent application - supermanred, on 10/04/2008, -1/+2There is a right click button. Welcome to the 90s... There are 8 buttons on my Apple mouse.
- supermanred, on 10/04/2008, -1/+2Oh, and my computer hasnt crashed since the day I bought it!
- supermanred, on 10/04/2008, -0/+1No, multi-touch compatible.
- DamnMan, on 10/03/2008, -2/+2Apple filed for a patent for something websites have been doing for years with java script? Always on that bleeding edge!
I really need to patent my idea for a method of signifying the end of a complete thought with a small graphical indicator. - salter84, on 10/03/2008, -2/+2just getting back at them for stealing features from OS 10.4. vista is just starting to show signs of "appleish" functions that the mac os has been able to do since Panther.... so im sure if apple takes the bare bones concept of one little function that xp/vista has and puts an apple twist on it, its going to be ok.
- kishosingh, on 10/03/2008, -1/+1Nice achievement after OS 2.0. by Apple.
- johnny81, on 02/13/2009, -0/+0great point

- bobloadmire, on 10/03/2008, -6/+0WTF are you talking about?
