- maverick999, on 10/10/2007, -14/+305Good thing I didn't buy an iPhone yesterday. I'd be pretty pissed...
- Simplogic, on 10/10/2007, -36/+321*****. so, where do i sign up form my rebate check for my 2 month old cell phone?
- darksheer, on 10/10/2007, -19/+288Sorry, it's called early adopter tax
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -23/+202apple is smarter than me. they deserve my $200 donation.
- Lynn, on 10/10/2007, -14/+187Steve knew that the Apple fanboys would pay $600 for his phone. Steve also knew that no normal people would buy it at $600 so he dropped the price to a much more sane price. Well played sir.
- Maczek, on 10/10/2007, -6/+171Poor eBayers...
- frostieDude, on 10/10/2007, -19/+154If $200 is that big of a deal to you, I recommend you stop buying cutting edge electronics.
- shmittay84, on 10/10/2007, -58/+193OMFG I want to kill myself. 200 ***** dollars. ***** YOU STEVE. :'(
- darksheer, on 10/10/2007, -11/+138Wow....this one surprised me. I expected all of the other announcements (except maybe the ipod classic, I figured that one would just die) but a $200 price drop on the iPhone? Sign me up!
- djSyndrome, on 10/10/2007, -4/+131Who the ***** buys an Apple product the day before a special event?
- funkyp56, on 10/10/2007, -64/+190HA HA HA, early adopters just got royally screwed, GO APPLE GO!!!
- DanteDefiance, on 10/10/2007, -11/+130*****! I bought one last month!
Urge to kill rising... - canadaboy, on 10/10/2007, -10/+118I am smarter than you too. send me $200.00
- bagochris, on 10/10/2007, -18/+122I was OWNED by apple ........ i paid 599 bucks...... plus tax! :(
- xienze, on 10/10/2007, -6/+106Yeah but, $200 within two months? Generally price cuts are more gradual than 33% off within such a short period of time. Are you trying to make yourself feel better about being out $400? Hell, if you'd just waited two months you could've bought three phones for the same price.
Admit it, you got shafted. - Simplogic, on 10/10/2007, -4/+86can you think of any other product in history where such a substantial price drop occurred in such a short shelf life?
- mywhitenoise, on 10/10/2007, -11/+89think of it this way. You early adopters did a charitable act. Now all the rest of us can buy the phone at a reasonable price.
- kris33, on 10/10/2007, -3/+70They will refund your iPhone if you bought it within the last 14 days.
- Microserf2005, on 10/10/2007, -22/+87Too bad Apple won't give refunds to people who decided to buy an iPhone yesterday! This is a market moving price. I think Apple played this strategy perfectly, start with a high price to recover R&D cost in a flash, create the perception of value at $600. Drop the price to $399 and sell them like a firestorm as people realize what a "great deal" the iPhone just became. Great job Apple. Too bad Microsoft probably won't sell many Zunes this year.
- darksheer, on 10/10/2007, -8/+68Early adopters always pay a premium....its nothing new.
It does suck; however, that it happened so fast. - mikepictor, on 10/10/2007, -20/+76oh please. You looked at a product, it had a $599 tag on it. *YOU* decided that having that product in your hand was worth $599. If it wasn't worth it, why did you buy it, if it was worth it, then quit complaining. To other people, $599 is not worth it, but $399 is, well...that's their threshold, and they had to wait longer to get it.
And how many people honestly expected that the price wouldn't drop a couple of months after release? I admit, $200 was a bigger drop than I thought, but I fully expected at least $100. If you didn't anticipate that, you should have. - Quix, on 10/10/2007, -8/+60Early adopters should always be ready for something like this, but this is too much too soon. I feel like Apple has kicked me in the face.
No more purchasing-at-launch for me. :( - yeahbuddy, on 10/10/2007, -8/+52Prices on technology always go down, be it 1 week, 2 months, 6 months, 1 year after you buy the item. If you continue to wait to buy, you'll never own anything that plugs in or runs off a battery. I'm not pissed and I bought it on launch day. I knew how much it costed when I bought it, and I knew it would be cheaper one day. That day has come. Oh well, that's life.
- Quix, on 10/10/2007, -5/+42Refuse the shipment on delivery. Have FedEx return it to Apple. Then request a reversal of the credit card charge.
- colincornaby, on 10/10/2007, -3/+38A friend of mine just called the Genius Bar, and they said unless it's under 2 weeks old, no refund.
- frostieDude, on 10/10/2007, -25/+60I bought two units on launch day. Price drops happen. Get used to it.
- Roger, on 10/10/2007, -4/+37People who don't know about the event?
- doophy, on 10/10/2007, -4/+36You have to admit though, this is kind of a slap in the face to early adopters. Especially considering there may now be a 16GB iPhone coming*?
*Pure speculation given that the 4GB iPhone is gone and there is a 16GB iPod Touch. - dclowd9901, on 10/10/2007, -4/+35And according to the way you spelled "geniuses," neither are you.
- seanherman, on 10/10/2007, -6/+36PLEASE KEEP US POSTED
- johnnybluejeans, on 10/10/2007, -13/+41Really? Kill yourself? Things drop in price.. deal with it.
- RacerX, on 10/10/2007, -9/+36I bought my iPhone a little over a month ago. I never thought they would make an iPhone like iPod this soon. Then they drop the price, wow, at least Steve Jobs could have bought me dinner, before he f'd me.
- Silince, on 10/10/2007, -7/+34I just ordered a refurb last week for $499. I haven't even received it yet, in fact FedEx is supposed to be delivering it today. Just what am I supposed to do now? Am I screwed? Guess I'll have to call Apple and pray they will show some of that, "Legendary" customer service.
- johnnybluejeans, on 10/10/2007, -3/+30Refuse delivery! You got lucky!
- darksheer, on 10/10/2007, -4/+30Nope; I'm not saying it doesn't suck--but I am saying that if you're going to be an early adopter of a product, you should expect to feel the pain when it does drop. Because you know it will.
- doctorcaligari, on 10/10/2007, -5/+30This is just like the time Apple released new G5 iMacs in November, then went Core Duo two months later. I thought those people got screwed bad...but wow, I'm speechless.
- angelces, on 10/10/2007, -11/+35http://www.angelces.com/randomImages/iPwnd.jpg
- colincornaby, on 10/10/2007, -2/+25If it's under two weeks old you're covered.
- allengeer, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26dugg for "urge to kill rising"
- gasca, on 10/10/2007, -9/+31Great for those of you that haven't bought an iPhone yet (please keep your laughter to yourselves). For those of us that bought it as early adopters let me say *****!!!! $50 dollars a week for the honor?!?! Thanks.
We all provided the kind of publicity no amount of money could buy, starting with they guys in NYC. I know that being an early adopter has a price. I just think this time it was too steep. Steve could at least have thrown in ringtones for past downloaded songs or anything to not feel this bad about a company I love and admire. Next time you need $200 dollars from your MOST faithful customers just ask. - choppinbroccoli, on 10/10/2007, -4/+26Interestingly enough, there may be a few reasons they dropped the price this quickly... Perhaps they are prepping a 3G version for MacWorld and need to unload a bunch of the existing iPhone stock before that time?
- ersnyder, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23Yes, Apples' Pro Photographer application Aperture. It dropped $200 in a matter of weeks.
- managizzle, on 10/10/2007, -7/+27*laughs at people trying to sell iPhones on Ebay; walks out the door to go to local AT&T store*
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+22you've got 14 days to return it, i belive.
- Veight, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20I think the iMac people got more screwed by a longshot.
- frimple, on 10/10/2007, -1/+19I didn't understand why they were going for $650 on eBay when you could get them direct online from apple anyways.
- allengeer, on 10/10/2007, -7/+25both your friends are not genius's.
- monkeyrun, on 10/10/2007, -3/+20You should be able to get the money back if you bought it within a week or two.
- MellerTime, on 10/10/2007, -4/+21(less than) 2 months is not my definition of "awhile". If we were talking about 6 months and a new revision (say, with 3G), I wouldn't be pissed. The fact that I've had my phone for just over a month and they slashed it by 33% pisses me off. I understand they want to lower the barrier for entry here (who wouldn't?), but come on... That's just like a firm slap in the face for anyone who helped make their Q3 sales better than ever. Maybe they shouldn't price match 100% of the difference, but how about $100 back, just to appease all the pissed off Apple fans...
