Then, if you can get past the idea that a utility would run a desktop o/s for nondesktop functionality, like utility control/distribution, you have to then take the leap that Apple would run said Microsoft program to run their facility.

Microsoft didn't give Apple money. Microsoft bought Apple stock as a vote of confidence, and then proceeded to make a very hefty profit selling it a few years later. Microsoft buying Apple stock was a way of saying "See... we can't kill Apple now, because if we do, we lose all this money we invested in Apple. They built them all when the company was at it's peak in the late 80's, sold or closed a lot of them when the company went into decline, and then ever since Apple rebounded have been buying them all back again. Even if it was 1 Inifinite Loop that flooded, that complex is 5 buildings alone.
