- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -10/+94Make Steve Jobs the president, at least you know he won't press the nuke button.
/sarcasm, please for the love of god don't make that guy president. - facelesscoward, on 10/10/2007, -4/+72I'm no Apple fan, but I have to admit that Mr. Jobs's aversion to buttons makes all of their hardware look very pretty.
- Scyth3, on 10/10/2007, -0/+63::puts on black turtle neck::
Ahhh, cause now I don't look weird at all...but hey, at least I have no buttons. - Zinite, on 10/10/2007, -1/+49I hear the 6g iPod uses zippers.
- mastercheif, on 10/10/2007, -4/+47That explains the one button mice.....
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -6/+36Hmm no tactile feedback? *cries*
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+27Well if Jobs was president you wouldn't have to worry about CIA leaks!
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -1/+28I read somewhere that jobs wore a black turtleneck as it doesn't distract from his presentations and he can blend into the background. It allows people to focus on what he's saying rather than focus on him.
- wildfire, on 10/10/2007, -0/+24I bet he loved Peyote buttons back in college.
- Speed, on 10/10/2007, -2/+23He could merge the State of the Union address and Macworld...
"We will launch the 6th generation iPod by next August. One more thing. We are invading Iran" - Cyber_Akuma, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24"blemishes that add complexity and hinder their clean aesthetics"
If his ego gets any bigger it will throw the Earth out of orbit... - meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -3/+22*iRan
You missed an obvious joke! - JoeBaynham, on 10/10/2007, -0/+18KEYboards have KEYS! Buttons and keys are different.
- sockpuppets, on 10/10/2007, -2/+19If it weren't for buttons I could not see.
- tidu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+16So this is why I have to go into Settings on my iPod when I want to toggle shuffle/repeat?
- davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -0/+15I'm using the mighty mouse now and it actually has 4 buttons. right and left clicks, and you can click the ball, and you can squeeze the sides for a 4th click function. all in all it sucks compared to any razer, logitech, or even microsoft multibutton mouse.
- LethalAmbition, on 10/10/2007, -1/+15wtf?
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14I thought you were a robot for a second so imagine my disappointment when i found out you were a sock.
I get the last laugh though, i killed your family and i wear their fur on my feet. bwahaha - ivosilva, on 10/10/2007, -0/+14Yeah, but can he open a bra?
- davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -1/+14No buttons on the elevator? That's just retarded.
- fowleryo, on 10/10/2007, -0/+13you seem a bit too interested...
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -1/+13and simple
- LethalAmbition, on 10/10/2007, -3/+15You both suck.
- Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -2/+13Why do I need a 40 button remote when I can have a 6 button remote that does the same thing!
and then I dont have to look for an hour for the buttons! - consonance, on 10/10/2007, -0/+10The story about Jobs and Wozniak at Atari is true. I read about it in "The Ultimate History of Video Games" by Steven L. Kent.
- OBKenobi, on 10/10/2007, -10/+18President of Apple Computers Steve Jobs began his hi-tech career at Atari. He was known to walk around barefoot, kick up his dirty feet on executives' desks, and talk continuously about going to India to meet a guru. Not only did he do the latter, he designed Breakout before leaving Atari for good.
This story is much more intriguing than that. Bushnell assigned Steve Jobs to design the circuitry for Breakout, but it was too difficult for Jobs. He asked his friend (and Apple co-founder) Steve Wozniak to help, and promised to split the payment from Bushnell. Wozniak did it in four days and was paid $350. But it turned out that Bushnell actually paid $5,000 for Breakout -- Jobs pocketed the remaining $4,650.
Ironically, Wozniak's design was so complex that no one at Atari could figure out how it worked. They had to redesign the entire game so it could be tested. - SanTe, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8It is also, if I recall correctly, in Wozniak's recent book "iWoz." (Good read, by the way.) Wozniak claims he harbors no ill will towards Jobs (and never did) for ripping him off.
- stanleyfresh, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7So, he's going for the floating disembodied head look?
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7There was a fantastic article over at daringfireball about how much of a pain in the arse multitouch screens would be. The article basically said, fully outstrech your arm, put your finger at the top of the screen, the bottom of the screen, the left of the screen and the right of the screen.
Repeat fifty times and see how much your arm hurts. - meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9If you click the button with two fingers on the trackpad, it right clicks and i personally prefer this approach by a mile. It doesn't matter where you hit the button this way and you don't have to take your eyes off the screen
- Dazabrit, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9MultiTouch Nuke Launchers. Bring it on.
- mandarin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+7Thats nothing, yesterday all the tv news channels at primetime was reporting on Lindsay Lohan...
- LeeSoong, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7Hopefully this means that Mac OS X 10.5 and the Next iMac have fully functional MultiTouch screens.
Still supporting 'legacy' hardware such as keyboards and mice, but more actively supporting voice input and MultiTouch input.
After using an iPhone - a 24" iMac multitouch screen would be amazing!
(Add multitouch to the cinema displays too...) - aaronm67, on 10/10/2007, -1/+7They could have just...you know...made a two button mouse.
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6Buttons
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6They're probably not heat activated, chances are it measures capacitance across your fingers and act accordingly, sort of like a really stupid touchscreen.
/I might be wrong, i did physics about 5 years ago :) - davidrools, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11Sums it up for me too: Apple is good for simple people who don't want to be overwhelmed with options.
But not for me. I would go nuts using Apple's remote. I'm not a fanboy, but I use the Microsoft media center remote and everyday I enjoy one button to go straight to my recorded TV shows, or to the guide, or to the main menu. I also like having two buttons each for FFW/RW, one set jumps ahead 30 seconds or back 5 seconds at a time (great for skipping commercials and jumping back if you overshoot) the other set for scanning forward or backwards at multiple speeds (great for finding a particular scene or zooming though to the end of a long program). For me, the more buttons the better.
I would be insulted if I were an Apple user. How dumb does Jobs thing his customers are not to be able to handle a few buttons to make things faster and easier? - ejm508, on 10/10/2007, -0/+6You don't. Those are just shortcuts for stuff that can be done other ways
Admittedly, I'm not a huge fan of the single button mouse, even though I use a Mac - Easty, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9He's Amish! I knew it!
- drlha, on 10/10/2007, -4/+9That is because Apple's interface was designed to work with only 1 button. The only people who complained for a long time were Window (and even worse Unix/X11) users who were used to having to press multiple buttons to do everything. Even now OS X can be operated fine with just 1 button, although the 2nd does come in handy for more advanced users.
- arbulus, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5nope, velcro fly.
- anonym41414, on 10/10/2007, -3/+8Yeah, I agree, but at the same time ... I'm not sure. In using my iPhone I've really come to appreciate the zero-force approach. I can type much faster on my iPhone than I ever thought because it requires no force. My one finger just flies.
So I can admit the possibility that a multi-touch keyboard might be a great thing. Maybe not, but I'm no longer instantly opposed to it. - ambethia, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5He's a SOCKPUPPET not blind.
He has buttons--for eyes. - Me1000, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5no...
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+5Right about....now
System Preferences > Speech > Voice Recognition - Aokami, on 10/10/2007, -4/+8iDecider
- stalefries, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Are you a stuffed animal?
- meatmcguffin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4***** my arse
Set it up in system preferences under Mouse and Keyboard settings > trackpad > two fingers for secondary click - missingnoh4x, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5Extra buttons can never hurt. I've always found that single button mouse terrible. No scroll wheel, no right-click...
- sockpuppets, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Cotton is murder!
