Basic how-to of the jump-shot. - jjpertusch, on 01/30/2008, -0/+10"after the jump", to me, is the most annoying phrase to come out of the internet. without a doubt.
- Xerodog, on 01/30/2008, -4/+14This likely means that the Leopard update will also be delayed. Mostly because they'll likely update FrontRow to allow rentals also.
- Raiderkid6, on 01/30/2008, -5/+15Think Ill pass on the Air
- ninjadave, on 01/30/2008, -1/+11No news about TimeCapsule? I hope its not going to take until Feb 29th to ship. Seems like this should be something that was available immediately.
- econoar, on 01/30/2008, -7/+16I was anxious for my AppleTV to arrive today in the mail and was hoping for the update to come out on the same day, it's going to make it a great device. Oh well, another week or so of waiting.
- MacParrot, on 01/30/2008, -0/+8You actually created a blog called fakestevebalmer??? I'm amused and just a little nauseous at the thought.
- fribhey, on 01/30/2008, -0/+8and you were surprised by this because...? did you forget you were in best buy?
- inactive, on 01/30/2008, -1/+8Buried as yet more Gawker spam.
Correct link: http://www.apple.com/pr/library/2008/01/30mba.html
When will digg introduce a "suggest a better link" function? - centerblack, on 01/30/2008, -3/+9Should be cool, I doubt it will make me switch from netflix though.
- Dymphna, on 01/30/2008, -1/+7I concur, when I move into my new place, TimeCapsule is going to be my wireless router of choice. 801.11n and a network HD? Sounds good to me
- Photar, on 01/30/2008, -0/+5MacBook Aair 3Lbs
MacBook 5 lbs
5 - 3 = 2 Lbs = 32 Oz.
The EEE PC is 2 lbs. So the MBA is 1EEE PC lighter than a macbook. - MacParrot, on 01/30/2008, -1/+6Considering the reported size of the update and the number of modifications, I think I'll wait about a week before downloading it to see what gets screwed up (which happens with all updates for OSes)
- CraigJ, on 01/30/2008, -4/+8Apple stock price dropped because investors did not like the Q2 forcast, not because of missed earnings. Apple crushed their Q1 earnings in spite of the bad overall retail quarter...
- cheesejaguar, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4The picture in that article is somewhat misleading... the new AppleTV *hardware* unit with the lowered price is already out, the software update just hasn't come yet.
- Dymphna, on 01/30/2008, -0/+4It's in the software update, so you can't do it yet. Would probably be silly for apple to release multiple upates when they can just do it all at once. I'm glad they shipped the MBA, as that is a higher priority for me, but I'd like to see the Apple TV update hit (so then I can buy one and actually get use out of it)
- Vtorch, on 01/30/2008, -1/+5This is the most important update.
- accelleron, on 01/30/2008, -3/+7Sweet. Now we can see the impressive sales figures this thing will surely bring. Right? Right?
- jeremythomas, on 01/30/2008, -2/+6i think the keynote said it was just a software update... however, it does not mean that they wont upgrade the hardware in the coming months.
- Dymphna, on 01/30/2008, -4/+7Price is pretty cheap for what you are getting, realize that making components small makes a device a lot more expensive.
Look at laptops of an equal or smaller overall size (none thinner, but some are smaller). You get weaker specs at a higher cost, and sacrifice keyboard and monitor size. (Monitor not a big deal to me, but keyboard is huge, I've never got an ultraportable before for that reason).
Pretty good deal to me, it's just powerful enough for my portable needs (got a desktop) while coming in a tiny package at a pricepoint $400 less than the next best thing. - Dymphna, on 01/30/2008, -6/+9I'm eagerly awaiting my MBA, can't get here soon enough, already have my computing setup planned out pretty well. It'll make a good companion to my desktop.
- DinosWillDie13, on 01/30/2008, -2/+5Any word on time capsule?
I need a new base station. - yersoocrust, on 01/30/2008, -2/+5Is there any update to the new AppleTV's hardware or is it pure software only updates?
- MacParrot, on 01/30/2008, -1/+4How can a product that just shipped jump the shark Fonzie?
- viciv, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3at least the AppleTV update is free..
- quarando, on 01/30/2008, -2/+5Why do windows fanboys get so worked up over people that prefer apple? Let people spend their money if they want. Apple's products have always been expensive and yet people buy them and like them. Nobody's forcing you to buy apple.
- ninjadave, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3I was just looking at the discussion forums for the Time Capsule and someone was questioning whether the HD could be used as a storage device or only for backups? And what kind of security layers are on the HD in the first place? Rethinking my purchase...
- ninjadave, on 01/30/2008, -0/+3Yeah, that's what I'm thinking may be a better choice....
- Vtorch, on 01/30/2008, -2/+51940's elegance? I am not sure about the "functional industrial design" part. Plus I thought that the Titanium Power book was Uuuuuugly. The Aluminums looked so much better.
Plus the iPhone isn't much of a success. If it was a success there would've been no reason to lower the price $200.So what are the facts to counter Cramer's? Ya know the facts are out there, they have to be out there because Apple is publicly traded company. You can't just take the word of Apple blog writers you know. - fluxion, on 01/31/2008, -0/+3and material they're referring to is on the freaking next line. it's like, "wtf was the jump?"
- Dymphna, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2*looks at Amazon's top sellers list* As the preoder is at #10 right now? I'd say yes
- digginamish, on 01/30/2008, -2/+4LOL, were (note the spelling, sans apostrophe) you trying say 'were'?
[Although, you were correct on the previous dumbass.] - Urkel, on 01/30/2008, -1/+3On Maccast a caller said he has the latest update on his brand new AppleTV. So there's a possibility that new units have it pre-installed.
- MacParrot, on 01/30/2008, -1/+3@ninjadave...No reason why it COULDN'T be used for storage, it's just a hard drive. Although considering how quickly prices are dropped on hard drives and that I already have the 1st gen Airport Extreme w/802.11n, I'm holding off before buying anything.
- legioss, on 01/30/2008, -1/+3I just bought an AppleTV two weeks ago just to wait another two weeks for the update.....
- deadnoob, on 01/30/2008, -1/+3nothing cutting edge should remind you of anything from the 1940's. especially with apple.
- phoomp, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2Not surprising about the AppleTV. Software time estimates are almost always about 30% under reality
- Dymphna, on 01/31/2008, -1/+3Not at all, that's why I went with the cheapest of the ultraportable options. There's a few PCs I've had my eyes on if I had money to burn, but I like saving it where I can.
If I had money to burn, I'd probably get the super sexy SSD drive option as well - stalefries, on 01/30/2008, -1/+3The "dude" didn't tip you off that this guy is just there to make some money?
- Boondoggle, on 01/31/2008, -0/+2unfinished product would be my guess.
- dvdd127, on 01/30/2008, -1/+2you wont see me crying over the delay in apple tv 2.0 because even though I do plan to buy one...its not like I have the money too.
- LoudMusic, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1I bought an Apple TV before the update was announced in hopes that it would essentially function like iTunes on a PC for the sake of playing a loop/playlist of videos on a television in a corporate lobby. No such luck. I'm really hoping the update will include certain changes like this.
Also, the rental thing is interesting. But I still don't get much use for the Apple TV. I know a Mac mini is lots more expensive than an Apple TV, but it does lots more. My wife and I have an older Mac mini attached to our television at home and use it for ... computing, and watching videos / television / movie and listening to music with 42" of high def visualizations.
I guess it's just a function of money. $230 vs $800+. I just find the Mac mini's functions to be worth the extra cashola. - Professr, on 01/30/2008, -5/+6You're overrated.
- thespottedelf, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1if you go on there right now... its says ships in 24 hours... or at lest it did for me...
- nfxmedia, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1So are Snack Packs.
- 525600, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1ah dang I replied to the wrong comment. vide infra.
- tangenteer, on 01/30/2008, -7/+8I thought you were talking about Vista for a second ...
- Boondoggle, on 01/30/2008, -0/+1You're missing something. You can do this. You need to add the iTunes library as a source, and then you can stream from it. I have 4 iTunes associated with my Apple TV. Oh wait you said rented... I havent tried that yet
- Boondoggle, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1I just got an Apple TV and I'm disappointed that it isn't a fully featured extension of iTunes. I can't play to my Airport Expresses via AirTunes on it.. and that sucks.
I was hoping to access and play my media from that device.
otherwise I like it. - JimSwarthow, on 01/31/2008, -0/+1thanky
