- guzman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Wouldn't it be a bit of suicide for them if they did? I can barely tolerate paying 8 dollars to see a movie and having to sit through all of those ads/previews, let alone $300+ for an iPod just so they can feed me commercials.
- maad, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Good, let them struggle.
Those evil bastards (eg: clear channel) ruined everything. - castufari, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Now to keep podcasts free. :D
- roeboedog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Um isn't the whole point to not have the ads at all.
I think you would see a lot of people throw their iPod's against the wall if ads stated showing up on the screen.
Just wait as our cell phone get more "location aware" you might just start getting a ad from the place you are about to walk by.
Apple has made enought money they do not need ad $'s. - nohart, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DAMN! Now where am I supposed place my Anti-Carebear Propaganda?
- Fafhrd68, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0While to bring you Pod-cast does cost, and it would be nice to have sponsored pod-cast, there are other ways to do sponsorships besides having commercials.
- aplardi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Steamynachos.. you are not the sharpest tool in the shed are you?
They are talking about ads ON your iPod, not ads FOR your iPod.
"allow commericials on its deevice or iTunes" - MacGyver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0That's pretty much common sense. No one would shell out $300 for an ipod if they forced you to listen to/watch commercials on it
- persecuted, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I hope apple doesnt think they are being an awesome consumer advocate when they refuse to put ads on the ipod. I mean it is damn near insane to think that anyone would put up with ads playing between their U2 tracks.
- mikemintz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I would understand ads in songs from the iTunes store, such as a five-second introduction to certain songs that say "Brought to you by ____, producer of the world's finest ____s." It works for DVDs, magazines, and cable television, and these are still successful industries. I would actually support this if, say, Apple charged 79c for sponsored songs, and 99c for regular. However, just like DVDs didn't get cheaper than videos (where you could fast forward), I doubt it would work out that way.
Ads directly on the iPod are different. My DVD player doesn't display ads of its own, and neither does my television or my radio tuner. - nutcase, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0now I would take an ipod for free with some ads in it
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0DJMac: It probably won't, though. Most corporations hold their products to the level of holy artifacts.
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Well of course they decided on no ads. You can't possibly force someone to put ads on their own hardware. It's unethical.
- DJMac317, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The whole point of the iPod is to listen to what you want to listen to, as the story says. I'm glad apple won't let commercials on the iPod. One of the reasons I got rid of television was to get away from commercials, and I don't listen to radio since I have podcasts on my iPod. I don't know how the sponsors are going to get their product out there and frankly I don't care. Maybe the money they spend on advertising could go into making their products better.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Good I dnt want to see another white screen on my tv with a smal ass "i" iN iFront iOf iEvery iWord. Apple is *****, this is not ducktales.
- steamynachos, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Good, I've had enough of those stupid ads
