Answer to Canadian iPhone Probs: Don't buy the iphone
theglobeandmail.com — I agree, speak with your wallet, don't buy it, at the very least for a month. Encourage your family or friends who might to hold off. "Don't buy the iPhone. Do what you, as sensible Canadians, will do when confronted by prices you can't stand: Leave the iPhone on the shelf."

- xtraa, on 07/05/2008, -1/+19Let's welcome Rogers to globalism: Same prices for all, or get a huge damage on the companies image.
- fudged71, on 07/05/2008, -14/+6Not doing something isn't as strong of a message as 'doing something' is. The people signing the petitions are probably not going to buy the iPhone anyways... it is just good to show the criminals--robbers--how many people we have behind us, and how angry we are. http://www.petitiononline.com/iPhone99/petition.ht ...
- moosepile, on 07/05/2008, -5/+62Sadly, there will be enough "OMG iPhone" buyers to negate any consumer revolt. And when they get their overuse charges on the bill? Too late. 3 year contracts are hard to get out of.
Techies understand, but John Q Public doesn't understand why these plans suck, and once they are signed by the cool, fanatic and the rich, it'll be too late for a consumer revolt to happen. Remember, Joe Blow still doesn't know 400MB from Unlimited. "For a PHONE? 400MB is TONS!" No, it's not. Joe Blow is going to set his iPhone to check email every 5 minutes, and he's going to surf "real world" web pages in glee. He's going to use 750MB to 1GB /mo.
The "Consumer Revolt of 2009" is a week away from signing a 3 year contract in 2008. Hence it will be powerless.- tedhead2k, on 07/05/2008, -1/+17Oh ye of little faith... I once had the same views, but stories like this are popping up in all sorts of Canadian publications. More and more Canadians are being told these rates suck and they are getting ripped off. And that online petition that everyone says is pointless? It's referenced in every single one of those articles. It's made a difference, and if it keeps up and enough of the public is educated on this, we can really stick it to Rogers this time. Not to mention the fact that Bell is launching the Instinct with a $10 unlimited data plan, expect more and more competition to come up. Rogers will have no choice.
- Firehed, on 07/05/2008, -1/+5I agree with you in principle... but 400MB goes quite a long way unless you're never near a WiFi connection. Since last June I've only used ~1GB over EDGE - which, of course, IS over edge after all, but email doesn't take up a whole lot of bandwidth (or at least mine doesn't).
If there was no WiFi, that number would look a LOT higher. But there is, and I suspect most people have WiFi at home and at the office which tend to take the majority of your time.
That said, the Canadian rates are far more ridiculous than any others I've seen, and ALL cell rates are crazy high for what you get.- phphreak, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Are you talking about actively looking for wifi when you're not at home or work?? Who wants to do that?
- Icebird, on 07/05/2008, -1/+4same here Firehed. I've used 1.4GB since June 29th, 2007 and sent 246MB. So about 1646MB total in a little over a year. So I would have been fine under that 400MB/mo plan, but this was EDGE.
With 3G and new applications that use the internet, I might be exceeding that. - psylence, on 07/05/2008, -5/+2Joe Blow doesn't know 400MB from Unlimited, but Joe Blow won't sit and refresh Facebook, Digg and Twitter all day either. 400MB is effectively infinite for the majority of average users.
- phphreak, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1And you know this based on what evidence?
- ferkranus, on 07/06/2008, -3/+3Finally someone with some sense! I've said all along that the iPhone is a luxury item and if you want it the minute it comes out...pay for it. Or wait and get it cheaper --- is this a new concept?
And the fact that it pointed out the 'us against them' mentality of Mac users is refreshing to say the least. - jtbell04, on 07/06/2008, -2/+3Here's an idea:
On launch day, with all those idiot yuppies and fanboys, stand outside a roger's outlet with a sandwich board comparing Canada's rates and plans to the US's. That pisses people off.
And don't give me that "Oh, I don't have any free time" crap. You're on Digg. - NekoIan, on 07/06/2008, -1/+5I have to disagree with you. I talked to my brother today who's a doctor and not a techie. I told him not to buy an iPhone and he agreed. He'd already heard what a scam Rogers is trying to pull off. If the news has reached him, then it's pretty widespread.
- aristotle0dude, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1They are including unlimited access to WiFI "hotspot" in the plans found all over most cities in Canada including airports, cafes, motels and restaurants.
http://www.canadianhotspot.ca/
The data is not an issue for the average consumer with half a brain. The problem has to do with the voice and text portions of the plan.
- neosublime, on 07/05/2008, -15/+8I say the same should be done for the US as well. AT&T is trying to rob us down here. I pay $120 a month for 2 iPhones with unlimited data on T-Mobile, and I guarantee I wont be moving to AT&T, or buying the new iPhone now.
- gfxlonghorn, on 07/05/2008, -6/+2360 Dollars a month for a phone is pretty reasonable for unlimited data.. what the hell do you want?
- MikeyTwit, on 07/06/2008, -4/+3Uh, did you actually read the article? $60/mth gets you just 400mb of data. and the top plan is still capped at 2GB. There will be no unlimited data in Canada with the iPhone, and that's why we're pissed!

- sixthree, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1This is Digg, were all on the same page. This needs to be on the front page of IRL newspapers.
- dysan, on 07/05/2008, -4/+8That's too pessimistic. I signed the petitions but when analysts say they don't think it will help then action like boycotting the product is the best way, money talks.
The same Joe Blows won't buy it in the first place because "they just need a phone" or its for businesses. It will be Techies and Apple fans that have the power to make an impact and not buy it in droves if they have restraint. Rogers already has a negative impression before this iPhone debacle (remember negative option billing), The everyday person who heard or experienced Rogers' crappy customer service already hates them enough to not do anything unless they have no choice. But in this case they do - save your money and just don't buy it for now. Use the phone you have for at least a another month. Let them squirm and see how it feels. It not like they will run out of stock. - yeskia, on 07/05/2008, -4/+8That solution is too easy and doesn't cost enough.
- macwac, on 07/05/2008, -5/+14Apple has always been able to count on their Apple cult to take them through the tough times, but when the fanboys voice their anger I think there is a serious problem that need to be addressed. You really shouldn't hurt your most trustworthy customers... even though the fanboys raise their opinion about everything, it seems this has gotten a lot more attention than usual.
- superkendall, on 07/05/2008, -3/+7"You really shouldn't hurt your most trustworthy customers"
Its not Apple setting the prices here though! And these customers, are not Rogers most trustworthy. - NickFury, on 07/06/2008, -1/+3Yeah, this is really a Rogers thing. Apple isn't setting the package prices. We just don't have enough competition here in Canada, so we get screwed.
- mCanada, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3superkendall: I call *****. You can't tell me Apple and Rogers don't talk about rate plans. Apple dissects every inch of their product, from the packaging to retail space to ensure a "positive consumer experience". You're going to tell me that they didn't know Rogers was going to price it at that level before roll out? It's certainly in Apple's interest not to have a negative association between getting ripped off and the iPhone. If you loose the value proposition, the brand as a whole suffers .
- superkendall, on 07/05/2008, -3/+7"You really shouldn't hurt your most trustworthy customers"
- davecachia, on 07/05/2008, -2/+23Couldn't have said it any better.
Don't buy it.- linga99, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1The companies in Australia look like they are charging a big premium for iPhone also.
As much as I wanted an iPhone, I wont be getting one at the prices as they stand at the moment.

- alpha88, on 07/05/2008, -2/+25Oh believe me, I don't need to be told not to buy it.
- Frost9999, on 07/05/2008, -9/+8Buy an Openmoko instead - they do everything an iphone does and more. And it's open source.
- Nysul, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Especially with Openmoko's super-fast 2G support. I don't have an iphone (I use an HTC kaiser) but even 3G is too slow. I love opensource but who cares if 3G is proprietary, put it on the damn phone.
- superkendall, on 07/05/2008, -1/+7If by "everything" you mean "you can program it to do anything", then yes. If you can't program OpenMoko might not be the best option.
- jwdav, on 07/05/2008, -0/+1While the iPhone may have been the catalyst for the uproar, the best thing to do is buy nothing for a bit. All the iPhone did was make the differences between Canadian rates and other comparable countries obvious. Prior to the iPhone launch, I never visited AT&T's web site ... that which has been seen, cannot be unseen.
- acurrie, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2Nokia is going open-source as well. I'm just sayin'...
http://tinyurl.com/5va2nr - starkruzr, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1The Freerunner doesn't even have EDGE, and it has a resistive touchscreen rather than a much easier to use capacitive one. No thanks.

- Mandegar0, on 07/05/2008, -2/+14Rogers is simply a horrible company, they like getting people to sign contracts and lock them in for life, If you sign ur life away on an iPhone contract, you simply are not intelligent.
I made the mistake of getting Rogers High speed internet, and although the service and speed are superb, the price is ridiculous, and now their telling us they are capping our internet service and charging 2$ per gig if we go over? I got charged 68$ extra for last month!
If you want a simple data phone, the HTC touch from Bell makes as a great alternative until rogers gets their act together.- birdman14, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1their internet is superb BECAUSE IT COSTS MORE. you can go get bell dsl and get s**ty speeds for $10/month cheaper.

Canada says "no more!"
No more neglect! We want respect! That's what we're striking for!
All you bureaucrats and corporate cats can all just take a hike!
It's Canada on strike!
Canada on strike!
From Vancouver to St. John's,
We raise our middle fingers up for you all to sit upon!
And with our fingers up your ass you won't be very psyched!
It's Canada on strike!
And we will not bow or budge.
Our resolve is strong.
We even took three hours to rehearse this striking song!
Canada on strike!
No matter where you are!
If you are Canadian, than you've got do your part!
March out from the halls!
That's right, suck my Canadian balls!
It's Canada on strike!
It's Canada on Strike!
It's Canada on Strike!
It's Canada

- compgeek, on 07/05/2008, -1/+8after having seen the prices of unlocked iphones here in Canada for months ($700 at a local mall wasn't uncommon) and seeing what the data plans are going to cost I thought wow Rogers you've really screwed yourself knowing them on a 3 year plan the iphone will still cost people $350 or so and the stupid idiots will buy it. I'm sorry but I'd much rather buy an HTC touch or a blackberry curve just as much functionality if not more less money and a better device for web or email or IM. Sorry Apple but with already owning a nano (it's great BTW) and having a laptop that's very portable as well as an Asus Eee for really lightweight ULTRA portable your Iphone is just simply outclassed I'd rather carry me Asus Eee (or full size laptop depending on what I'll be doing that day) a cell phone and my nano and have them do 1 thing well each rather than carry 1 device that tries to do it all and succeeds at none
- jwdav, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Good for you - choice of phone is a very personal thing.
The cost of the iPhone is less than 5% of the value of the 36 month contract you'll need to sign. Saving or spending even a few hundred more or less on the phone of your choice is insignificant over three years. - phphreak, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Only problem is, the HTC and Blackberry are not close to the functionality that the iPhone has. A stylus?!? Come on...
- jwdav, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Good for you - choice of phone is a very personal thing.
- moo113, on 07/05/2008, -2/+12Instead of the over priced iPhone, I'm looking at picking up the HTC Touch Diamond. 3G, Wifi, GPS, 4GB internal, it's basically HTC's answer to the iPhone. And Telus offers unlimited data plans as well.
- phphreak, on 07/06/2008, -0/+2What operating system is it running ...Windows Mobile? no thanks
- Billistic, on 07/05/2008, -4/+5Just buy the phone by itself at full price from apple, then throw your rogers sim card in. Get a regular phone plan and just use WIFI and not the 3G network.
No sense in punishing apple for the Rogers monopoly.- xero9, on 07/05/2008, -1/+2Yeah too bad wifi sucks. I don't know where all you people go, but everywhere I go, there's either no wifi, only one but it's locked, or one of the Rogers, Fido, Telus, or Bell hotspots. All of which are useless to me. EDGE and 3G are the way to go because you're going to have coverage everywhere.
- jo21, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4you can't.. .activation have to be done in the apple store
- ruthie3, on 07/06/2008, -1/+0Forgive me, What is 3G? Is it like WiMax? Does anyone care to protect his or her self from the danger of EMR while your seemingly begging for the poisonous BIGGER and BIGGER doses of it. I know as well as anyone the importance of technology and not being left behind because of unavailability or expense. I also know something you all seem to be pretending does not exist. The fact is all of this technology is dangerous to the worlds health. Please climb on board the responsibility train. Take time to consider your needs as well as what you want. You need to be safe from the bigger and better toys that are being dangled in front of you. These cell-phone companies are doing what they can to generate cash in their pockets not make things more convenient for you. Do you honestly believe that not buying their phone for a few months or even a couple of years will intimidate all there money. they will charge you for making them wait by hiking prices of what you already subscribe to, Dah. Don't forget, protect yourself. They aren't just taking your money, They want your health too. http://www.my biopro.com/stephaniecarrano
I appreciate you all listening...Thank You
Stephanie - Justin6512, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1the GPS is assisted, so when you're on the street trying to find a pizza place and you use google maps to find the address, boom, data charges! Also when you try to find your location it will use the cell network to download the maps to your phone.
- HappyScrappy, on 07/05/2008, -4/+8'If Rogers slaps the same price plan on the BlackBerry Bold (which it might), would the uproar be as loud?
I doubt it.
The reason is obvious: The iPhone is made by Apple, and Apple has long nourished an us-versus-them persecution mentality among its faithful, in which the rest of the world is supposed to “hate” Apple for dimly explained motives. The high price of owning a Rogers iPhone just feeds into that paranoia.'
Very interesting comment. First of all, "long nourished"? There were very few Apple users 10 years ago, the company was in deep trouble. Few who use Macs or iPods today can trace any of their opinions to anything Apple nourished long ago.
Additionally, the author states that Apple nourishes a persecution mentality. Then the author goes on to make a non-factual assertion (that if this happened to other phones the uproar wouldn't be as loud) and then says this represents the persecution mentality. Well, since the author made this scenario up from whole cloth, it looks rather like persecution.
Here's why there's such a large uproar compared to the Blackberry Bold or such:
Because there are more people who want this device than the Blackberry Bold. Furthermore, there are more individuals who would like to choose this (as opposed to it being mandated by their IT department) than the Blackberry Bold.
I do agree with the final conclusion. If the prices don't make sense to you, don't buy it. Vote with your dollars.- n8to, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1But with Blackberry all your data is compressed so you aren't even going to use nearly as much as an iPhone. That's why they give unlimited data plans so cheaply.
- AyaJulia, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1"There were very few Apple users 10 years ago, the company was in deep trouble. Few who use Macs or iPods today can trace any of their opinions to anything Apple nourished long ago."
I have only one response: Apple IIe with Oregon Trail in elementary schools. /nod - jparkinson, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1I think the reason the uproar is so big is because the iPhone was seen as a savior for our data charges. Many people, myself included, were under the impression that with the iphone, the amount of data required to make most of its features useable would REQUIRE some sort of unlimited plan and obviously at some sort of semi-reasonable price (not too confident, after all, this is Rogers) and then Rogers went and ***** on all of our dreams with this pricing structure. For years we have sat on the sidelines and watched people in the US pay half as much for their cell service all the while getting ***** for our own, only to have the one glimmering ray of hope for low prices ***** all over by this ***** monopoly.
***** rogers
- n8to, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1But with Blackberry all your data is compressed so you aren't even going to use nearly as much as an iPhone. That's why they give unlimited data plans so cheaply.
- wildsnake, on 07/05/2008, -7/+2In United States anyone who wants cellular service and gets a subsidized phone, you are locked into a contract, unless you do a pay as you go option, but you do not get a good phone. They aren't going to give you an iPhone for $199 or a Treo. You are getting an iPhone that I paid $699 for last year, now it's less and you have more choices in voice/data plans. People are whining for $10-20 more, which It's ridiculous. People are paying $70,000 for cars, and people cry for $10.00. No one cares. There are people who have the money and will buy it....lol
- kevinwiz, on 07/05/2008, -6/+1I disagree with this. Thats like saying, "OK tomorrow and from then on, gas will be $15/gallon. If you don't like it, don't buy it"
- thedragon4453, on 07/05/2008, -0/+7Except while not having gas for your car might be crushing to your life, somehow I doubt that not having an iPhone is going to prevent you from having a job and so on.
edit: And as gas continues to go up, people are most definitely going to curb spending on gas. Maybe not to 0, but I promise that you will start to see commute length become a bigger factor in home buying, more call for public transportation, etc.- iChopPryde, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4dam right the moment Gas his $2 a liter im parking my car in the garage and walking and or biking everywhere or taking the bus I don't care if I will be late for work life will just have to learn to slow down (which could be a good thing) and people will start to smell the flowers more.
- KingFog, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4Hardly, with Gas, it's actually something that's necessary. Without gas are cars don't work, which means we don't get to work/school/etc etc We would have to weather those prices.
An iPhone on the otherhand is not THAT important. Our life will not grind to a standstill if we did not own one. Hence why the "If you don't like the price, don't buy" theory actually works.
- thedragon4453, on 07/05/2008, -0/+7Except while not having gas for your car might be crushing to your life, somehow I doubt that not having an iPhone is going to prevent you from having a job and so on.
- NavS, on 07/05/2008, -0/+4I would like to have one, but do to pricing, I will remain with my current phone+provider. It was cool that we could have had one, but we can't and it sucks.
- S4MF1SHER, on 07/05/2008, -0/+3Makes sense.
- whitecranberry, on 07/05/2008, -0/+13Great Product. Only problem is that Rogers Communications sucks balls. I love how they said their plan offers "real value".. Yeah, real value when you're the one on the receiving side of the ***** bill they'll be pumping out to you monthly..
Take it from me, do not get into a contract with these douchebages, you'll regret every moment of it. If everyone boycotts this ***** eventually some other carrier will step up and do correctly what Rogers never seems to be able to do. NOT RIP PPL THE ***** OFF. - onlyclave, on 07/05/2008, -7/+2I think I said "Don't buy the iPhone if you don't want to pay that much" last week and I got buried.
You Canadians act like you're ENTITLED to a cell phone worse than Americans. STFU. - xero9, on 07/05/2008, -0/+2This is going to kill me. I want one badly when it launches but I think I might ride it out. It's not like things could get worse, right?
- defunctlife, on 07/05/2008, -0/+8I think the main thing is that now with the internet (you know since 1989) we can easily compare what is happening around the world. We are clearly getting the bunt of the ***** plans out there, minus Denmark of course. But we are the only country not getting even the option for an unlimited plan let alone at a reasonable price.
Rogers will indeed (hopefully) get the bunt of this in the end, the bad press won't just go away for this and will be remembered by consumers for a long time be it for the iPhone or future products, their reputation is being ruined which will equal a lot more profit loss than they can see. New phones will come out on the top Canadian networks and immediately people will not consider Rogers as a fair choice. Here's to thinking short term...I hope people won't buy it, I really do, because I sure as hell won't because it's time to teach a corporations with a monopoly a serious lesson, that the consumer can rule. - ibmetom, on 07/05/2008, -6/+0These are Canadians you are dealing with so could you please simplify your solution.
- theapiarist, on 07/06/2008, -0/+11The problem in Canada is that the telcos want a free market (which is fine) when it comes to charging fees, but they want a closed market when it comes to competitors. Let's let AT&T, Verizon, Sprint etc. come up here and see how long Rogers continues charging for data like this. Maybe this guy should look up foreign ownership rules in the telecommunication industry.
It's also pretty easy for a Globe and Mail reporter to tell me not to buy an iPhone; should I instead buy from Bell, which has a stake in this newspaper? It's time to overhaul the CRTC not only in the cell phone industry but also television. Honestly, would anyone outside the GTA ever watch the Toronto Sports Network if ESPN was available here? Why are we propping up these multi-billion dollar companies?
Also, anyone arguing infrastructure costs should try using a phone outside of the 13 or so major cities in Canada. Its not like I'm going to get 3G speeds on a phone where I live, I can't even make a phone call from my house. Rogers doesn't give a crap about coast to coast coverage, so why not give out reasonable rates so at least when I head to a major city, I can actually use the damn phone as its supposed to be used.- pierreb, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Agreed - with the Canuck buck on par with the greenback, we have an effective monetary union with the US. Competition for the various sacred cows (telcos, financial institutions, media, etc.) is long overdue and the regulatory bodies cannot deal with a global marketplace so let's open up.
Toronto Sports Network may still be around but only if it figures out that there are Canadian hockey times outside of Toronto (many of which have actually won a couple of Stanley Cups in the last 40 years and have a chance of winning another in the next five).

- supermanky, on 07/06/2008, -2/+5I say, sell your children into slavery if you have to. This iphone thing is REALLY WORTH IT...
- deus911, on 07/06/2008, -1/+2How will I ever be able to feed myself and my family now that ROGERS is forcing me to buy this expensive coverage plan for this super-affordable Iphone.
- dashrevery, on 07/06/2008, -6/+0While I dislike Rogers just as much as any Canadian and not just for their rates I strongly believe they are a better company than other carriers available. This whining however about the “ruined” iPhone in Canada is becoming rather ridiculous and annoying. I prefer to think of this from a different perspective and compare it to driving a real fancy car that will only run on premium gas. Sure, this is a ***** way to think about it but it solves the issue of feeling lame once everybody has the same gadget. In other news for individuals who bitch and whine without doing research Rogers does offer an option without 3G support and said they will allow people to keep their current data and communication plans if they desire to do so.
Digg me down for my opinion wankers!- tedrock, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1didn't even read what you wrote. just saw "Digg me down for my opinion wankers!" and complied.
- gquaglia, on 07/06/2008, -1/+5Could the guy who wrote that article been anymore biased toward Roger's? Maybe if he took their [Roger's] dick out of his mouth, he could have written a fair story. Monopolies are bad, a fact the writer doesn't seem to care about.
- pierreb, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Agreed - in retrospect it was a bad decision by the Canadian Competition Bureau to allow Rogers to acquire Fido.
If Fido were still around, there would have been two potential options for the iPhone and I get the feeling that the pricing that would have come out (likely at the Fido level) would have been more competitive.

- spudmanster, on 07/06/2008, -3/+2lol, getting bent out of shape over iphone costs. pardon me, but most North Americans are quite stupid in this regard. You have been paying for incoming & outgoing calls since I can remember, and that does not piss you off to do anything about it? Since I left Canada 10 years ago I have not paid for a single incoming call. Far more savings are probably to be had in this regard. And ya, deducting minutes from your monthly total for an incoming call still counts as paying for it.
- mmn100, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1I'm going to wait for Android phones that are open rather than being locked into a contract with Rogers and the software restrictions of the iPhone (Yes, I know that can be jail broken)
- sixthree, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1Android is never coming out.
- aj3289, on 07/06/2008, -0/+4Speak with your [Canadian] dollar!
- tedrock, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1oh i see what you did there
- howdareyou, on 07/06/2008, -2/+1I hate Rogers too but don't lie. Rogers will only charge $2/MB up to $25, it's sucks but you aren't paying $68 extra.
- pierreb, on 07/06/2008, -0/+3I agree that Canadians should not buy. Actually let's take it one step further. Let's line up at Rogers/Fido on 11 July - review the options with the sales reps and then walk out without buying a phone. This will make the lines longer and reduce the sales that they will get on launch day. The alternative is to get the phone, bring it home and then return it and cancel the service within a few days. Under most provincial consumer laws there should not be a penalty for doing this.
- grantmoore3d, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1I love it, where do I sign up!?
- HunterSlayer, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1I'm personally canceling my contract with Rogers and moving to Telus. The HTC Diamond is a much sleeker phone and with $45 for unlimited data and voice, my buttocks shall remain untouched.
- grant1080, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1You know what HTC stands for? Handsets that can't!
- RogueMountie, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1I have been boycotting Rogers for years, and have always encouraged others to do the same. They have no respect for their customers.
- PhlipPhlop, on 07/06/2008, -0/+0Before you buy expensive contracts look here: http://downloads.zdnet.com/abstract.aspx?docid=357 ...
- BCNewfie2, on 07/06/2008, -0/+0Why are we Canadians so long winded?
Contract sucks? Don't sign it. Period! - jparkinson, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1That journalist is full of *****. I don't feel like I am entitled to the iphone, but I do feel I am entitled to competitive rates.
- sumgi, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1Android phones will have much more diverse hardware and configurations, some will completely suck but I imagine some will be really great and at a much lower price than the iPhone.
- Justin6512, on 07/06/2008, -0/+1it's not the price of the iPhone that we're complaining about here. It's the price of the data plans from Rogers wireless. $199 for an iPhone, that aint bad, Rogers is just charging ridiculous amounts for their plans, this would mean you would be paying just as much with a phone running android.
Some places are even giving the iPhone away for free - ie the UK, and you only have to sign an 18 month contract - rogers makes you sign on for 3 years.- sumgi, on 07/06/2008, -1/+1Frankly I don't know how many carriers there are in Canada but the whole point of diverse hardware with multiple carriers is that you can get a better deal. If you want THE apple phone then get in line and bend over because I imagine that Rogers or whoever paid handsomely to win the rights to it and they plan on extracting it back from the customer.
