- n8r0n, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Your comment is completely insane, and I am not even an Apple fan. Heaven forbid a company takes the time to innovate. Last time I checked there was not a company out there who did not want to turn a profit. Perhaps you could start your own company, Sabour Inc., and make MP3 players that suit your taste, never update them and throw the idea of making a profit out the window and see how long you last.
- dFLAWLESS, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6It is actually a big deal for some consumers. Just because you may have no need for a product of this type doesnt mean Apple doesnt have a market for it.
- isewise, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Not really a dupe...I call it a similar story related to this controversy http://digg.com/apple/60GB_iPod_to_be_replaced_(hint_hint)
- StoneWolf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I think the "hold" switch should prevent it from coming up.
- osbjmg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2@jpatch - U2 used to rock, they were really really good. I will have to side with maddox on their last album though:
http://www.thebestpageintheuniverse.net/c.cgi?u=11worst - bigteebo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I have a g4 20 gig ipod, and now am starting to wish I got a slightly bigger one. I know I'm gonna be running out of space sometime, and that's without tv shows & music videos.
- iiftmlis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe I'm unusual but I've got the 40 gig and it's getting tight now. Podcasts and audiobooks are rapidly filling the space not used by music. I really want an 80 or 100gig iPod at this point.
- velo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"this could mean the company is readying a wide-screen video iPod with Bluetooth headphones"
Bluetooth headphones ... yummie. But wait:
Wasn't the point of the iPod having one gadget with one wire to do everything?
"The problem with Bluetooth headphones is that it's not just recharging your iPod, you have to recharge your headphones too. People hate it. There are quality issues - the bandwidth isn't high enough, and even if it does get there some day, people don't want to recharge their headphones." - Steve Jobs, Sep 2005.
So, this could mean the company is just readying something someday with some features, actually no one (outside) knows about. Sort of sounds exactly like the last few years of apple rumors. Ok, I admit it: It's fun to read stuff from people who think they got other people totally figured out.
I for one wait until there actually is a product before I'll start digging (and if it's worth it perhaps start drooling). Until now, my good 'old' Palm Zire 72 (320*320 at ~(5.5cm)² - imperial: diagonal 2.5in) does a good job playing fullscreen mpeg4 videos with 'tcmp'. The battery lasts for two *cough* stargate episodes, which easily fit on a medium sized MMC.
Not that anyone really NEEDs to watch videos on the bus, but from time to time its fun. - VanceMc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1I am not sure if I like the idea of the clickwheel coming up on the screen. How does it recognize the difference between a touch when I want to use the wheel and an accidental touch? Sounds like it will be popping up all the time and obscuring the view. They have a good picture of it (or what is presumably it) on Engadget linking this story, and it just seems awkward.
- Hyperion, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Yeah, I'd say it's close enough to being an old story though.
If the widescreen iPod comes out, I'll most likely get it, and I'm no Apple famboy (in fact, this would be my first purchase of an Apple product). - evensong, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Apple has one of the most complete lines of MP3 players out there. There is a player in every price range from $69 and up, with the $299 iPod and the $199 Nano being the cash cows. Shuffle likely gets decent sales from first-time iPod buyers, low-end buyers, or small children (parents gift to elementary/middle likely). Everything in between should fall in line also.
On the other hand, the $399 60GB iPod probably doesn't sell much. When it comes to MP3s, especially songs from iTunes, 30GB is a LOT of space. Average Joe won't fill his 30GB and even he knows it. Average Joe buys the iPod for the thinness, ease, look, blah and blah. The 60GB iPod is no different than its 30GB brother, except in storage space. Average Joe won't spend an extra $100 to get double the space, when he cannot even fill up 30GB. Add in video and the story may be different. But as of now, the iTunes Movie Store serves very few 'must have' videos.
So the idea of Apple killing the 60GB iPod seems possible, if not probable. How better to drive up high-end sales than create a 'killer app' (true video) that forces everyone to spend an entire paycheck on? Its obvious the mid-range 'killer app' was Nano, while might have cannibalized some of the bigger iPod's sales. Being that those big iPods are nothing more but bigger Nanos, the best thing to do is to create something that justifies the extra money (besides space). iPod Video could possibly do that. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Well, don't buy any cars then - a new one comes out about once a year.
Don't buy a TV - their improving all the time.
Don't buy anything computer related - they double every 18 months.
Don't buy anything media related - they are always changing things (records, 8 tracks, cassette tapes, Beta, VHS, CD, LaserDisc, DVD, BlueRay, HD-DVD, UMD)...
Don't buy clothes - fashions change.
Don't buy food - what's great for you this week will kill you next week.
I guess you're kinda screwed, huh? - XxUNDEROATHxX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3This is old news, the 60GB being placed on the "At Risk" list for retailers....But this article sums up the rumored details ...
I wouldnt expect to see the bluetooth headphones though, that rumor is too far-fetched...
This was all on macrumors.com a week ago.... - funkyebk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0How exactly do you get that your 5thGen60 wouldn't be "supported" Nowhere in the article did it say anything about nullifying warranties or providing support for products purchased previously.
or are you just PO'd cause you bought something that not bleeding edge? - l3e3e7, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1How come if the 60g is 'at risk' then all the wide screen rumors must be true. Hey lets throw in blue tooth headphones for good measure. I hardly think you can justify this as news just because this guy's 'checking' said so.
- coding, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2This same analyst read this here a week ago and wrote up their report.
- sabour, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0i won't buy anything about apple again, this is great,i wasted 399$ of money for buying a product which only supported couple month and replaced by new one because the company wants more profit :(
