Get us funding, or someone who fits all those things, and we can get voice/video in sooner rather than later. Otherwise just be patient.
Skype has video, so does iChat. If you need video, please try another application.

Adium Project Manager - DanTekGeek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+58Congrats Chris, Evan and team!
- ninetynine, on 10/12/2007, -4/+42yay!
- zenwhen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+37Adium is without a doubt the best IM application on any platform.
- paulwilde, on 10/12/2007, -0/+29http://www.adiumx.com/changelogs/Adium_1.0_Changes.html
List of changes. :) - drenader, on 10/12/2007, -5/+33It was always "yay", now it is officially "yay".
- dcipjr, on 10/12/2007, -0/+25Eh?
- zachlutz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+26Thank you all for creating such a brilliant program. I even switched my mom over today. :)
- SirG3, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22OMFG! How the hell did they add 200% more cowbell!? Perhaps consulting the Vorlon helped?
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16This app helped to keep me on the Mac. I love it. I love it. I love it. I can't say enough good things about it.
Windows users: It's like gaim... but a million times better. - tamarok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14Ah, but at least the Gaim developers get lots of encouragement and incentive :) The libgaim code is an important part of Adium.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I wish they had adium for windows, no other messaging client compares to it's sleek and easy to use interface. It's perfect
- DEIx15x8, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15Wow, this thing has been around and solid for so long that i never realized it was still beta.
- streetstealth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Longtime Gaim users:
Imagine the first distro of Linux you ever used, then imagine Ubuntu.
That's what the difference between Gaim and Adium is like. It may be similar tech underneath, but it's just amazing how far they've taken it in terms of usability, configurability, and just plain classiness. As both a Mac and Linux user, I hope someday to see Adium ported! - bbkingadrock, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12"centre", "colour", etc.
- zachlutz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14No, ass. BTW, she loves the program. She's already been installing Xtras on her own.
- pkulak, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12This is just like Trillium except it doesn't take about 5 minutes to load.
- clm100, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Uh, this is like Trillian for Mac. And a lot better. Soooo much better.
- nick2354, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10this does everything trillian does and more... and its free. its a lot better in my opinion.
- streetstealth, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Adium is what happens when you have a dedicated team of open source devs, smart interface designers, a healthy community, and a solid and usability-centered OS to work in.
I'm having trouble thinking of another app whose 1.0 release has come this close to pure, untarnished perfection.
Congrats to the team! - chirs, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Everything I said here is still applicable today:

Adium Project Manager - spiffyfitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10If you're like me and only ever use AOL's network, then I recommend iChat with the Chax plugin. Otherwise, Adium is the only worthwhile IM client on Mac OS X.

Something of quality and rock solid usability that Phil Ryu didn't create? IMPOSSIBLE
End Sarcasm> - mbadolato, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I bought Proteus back in the day. It rocked, and Adium wasn't there yet. Since then, Adium has become unbelievable, and Proteus died (about 2 years ago). Oh, they claim version 5 is still being developed. They claim they're making the source available. But no one is working on it. Every time someone says "soon!" months go by with no change, then someone says "soon!". Lather, rinse, repeat. They released a very minor point release a couple of months back. First time in close to two years and didn't really do anything much.
Proteus was great, but now its totally dead. Everyone has moved away. Adium is where its at. - totorototoro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9latest 1.0 beta was working great for me, looking forward to installing the real thing :p
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8impossible to port it, relies to much on Mac OS X technologies.
However it would be great if Linux developers could really learn something from it about how to design an interface, and I don't mean Beryl style gaudy flashyness :) - mikev, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8When I first got my mac, I thought adium was great. I loved the customizability and everything about it.
Then I gave iChat a second chance, and have really never looked back since. It's a lot more stable than Adium, and also allows you to video + audio conference :D - theporchmonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7love, peace and adium :)
- boredzo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7"""
Instant Messaging is [just] IRC with the channel feature dropped for "security reasons".
"""
Not so. Speaking as both an Adium developer and somebody who actually knows the IRC protocol, I can tell you that there are features in IRC that absolutely require extra UI to in order to do IRC support right. These include topics, modes, and kicks, and those are just the common protocol-defined features.
We can't just flip a switch and say we have IRC support—yes, you could connect to IRC and chat, but you wouldn't notice when anybody changed the mode or topic or kicked somebody. I've used a client that omitted that information (Global Chat), and trust me, it sucks. Seriously, I'd rather use telnet to access the IRC server.
There actually is an IRC plug-in in our trunk, using libgaim's IRC support, which Evan has used from time to time to access the Adium IRC channels. But it's not ready for the users because it doesn't have the *UI* support for those IRC-specific features. And we won't ship it until it's ready. - monkeyrun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7Nice, I've been using it for so long that I didn't remember it's beta all along.
- macbwizard, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7The Sparkle update engine is one of the best new features in my opinion.
- nonregulator, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6@marcushe, I don't really think its fair necessarily to argue that just because they've only just reached 1.0 that open source programs develop slowly. They decide their own increments of advancement. Adium has been a very functional and great program for years with out reaching 1.0. The reason it tends to take so long a lot of the time in my opinion is because the developers feel like they need to make a 1.0 release really stand out. With non open sourced programs, a lot of the time you only get updates that always jump up at least an entire version number whether or not they deserve it or not.
- lopla, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Breaking News: Microsoft product manager announces development of new messaging client dubbed "Zunium". It will not be an exact clone however, the mascot will be a Goose.
- KingLeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Adium was the first app I downloaded when I got my Macbook Pro last year :)
- Velireon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7You're not the target audience if you only use the AIM network. Many of us have diverse friends on diverse networks -- Adium puts them all in one client for us, which iChat doesn't even think about doing.
- Slipknotic, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I looked at their site and only have one queston; What the ***** is Canadian english?
- patr1ck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Permalink to the blog post: http://www.adiumx.com/blog/2007/02/adium-10.php
- dohidied, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Canadians have some British spellings and some American spellings.
- jake57, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Transmission for now......utorrent for Mac is being developed right?
- KingLeo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Webcam support would complete Adium as the best AIM software ever. For now I use iChat which is amazing for video chat... Skype which just released a new version that supports video chat on the Mac (very good quality), and if you wanna video chat with MSN users you can download Millenium which it's crappy quality (MSN video chat sucks).
Adium however has a lot of very nice features like encrypted chat only one click away, etc, etc. - periphium, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Well done, guys. It's been a long journey, but you know it's been worth it.
- zenwhen, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This application has been around in pre-1.0 form for a long time.
- econoar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5no it didn't
your lol just crashed - airmann90, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5@Vironex
It's never 'just' software, man. - mortapotty, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Congrats on 1.0 guys! Here's to a smoother path to 2.0 :)
- dragazis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4for information on voice and video chat please take a look at the wiki page on this here http://trac.adiumx.com/wiki/VoiceAndVideo
- patFX, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4where the f@ck is your caps lock key?
- teunit48, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5i would personally love to use ichat. but adium works better with msn-messenger. all my friends use msn.
- uppedbyhiggins, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I've been using this app for...five years?? That doesn't sound right. I do remember that crappy blue owl-duck icon.
Anyway, I'm glad they've got another update, this is THE greatest messaging app available. Thank you Adium people! - matperk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I was just thinking this morning when it said beta 42 was available that it was about time they launched.
