- ploke, on 11/11/2007, -0/+107Still holding out for real integration into Adium
- stalefries, on 11/10/2007, -0/+33True, this is just a temporary stop-gap until we get *true* integrated A/V in Adium. While I appreciate the effort, this will never match true A/V support.
- Jem7vwh, on 11/10/2007, -1/+31Adium needs to fix it's file sharing system before taking on video chat ;)
- placidified, on 11/10/2007, -1/+19Just tried it and it works pretty well. But still i would prefer a integrated one aswell.
- gerrymac, on 11/11/2007, -0/+17ewww it looks like xp!...
and what the hell is the deal with sticking widgets on every ***** app. Who the hell wants a bloody widget in an IM window that tells them the weather! - raleel, on 11/10/2007, -0/+17It's a temporary solution, because a lot of people want it. I actually think it's not a bad idea at all.
- Blubi, on 11/11/2007, -0/+16Direct link to the plug-in:
http://adiumxtras.com/index.php?a=xtras&xtra_id=49 ... - chirs, on 11/11/2007, -0/+10We'll do a windows port for 500 grand.
- kaiwai, on 11/10/2007, -1/+11The problem is that it is reliant on a third party; if the third party goes bust; can't maintain the website when the massive load of traffic arrive, we (adium users) lose that functionality.
IMHO, I'd sooner see the "Apple & Microsoft" relationship yield MSN support in iChat IMHO. - chirs, on 11/11/2007, -0/+9Have you reported these problems to us? File transfer works for me. - Chris, Adium Project Manager.
- gerrymac, on 11/10/2007, -0/+8works all right, its a nice feature to have until we see full integration of AV into adium.
- Sammael71, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7Great News and I appreciate a temporary measure but I have to say looking at the comments on the adium site that some of them seem just ungrateful really.
- sparced, on 11/11/2007, -3/+10thank you Microsoft.
- Hayaemsay, on 11/10/2007, -0/+7I think we've all been waiting but this will have to do for the short term, yet to try it out though so I can't really comment on it.
- tsunamisteve, on 11/11/2007, -0/+6there's that digg attitude again.
- jdandrea, on 11/11/2007, -0/+6From Eric Richie on the Adium Blog: "Guys, listen, you're nuts if you think we're just going to drop all the work we've put in on the native video implementations. [MeBeam Integration] was a side project that Andy was working on. He wanted to release it so he did. It won't in any way detract from the other work we're doing. It's not meant to replace the real thing, simply something fun in the meantime."
- chirs, on 11/11/2007, -0/+5You're probably using msn. Look at our documentation on trac.adiumx.com as to why file transfer on msn is slow.
- unleashedlive, on 11/11/2007, -0/+5MSN transfers = slow as *****. AIM transfers = nice and fast.
- jtibbetts, on 11/10/2007, -1/+5This is about a month too late. I've moved on to iChat 4.0, and I don't miss Adium at all.
- chirs, on 11/10/2007, -0/+4Look in ~/Library/Application Support/Adium 2.0/Plugins (I think) and you should be able to remove the plugin. Make sure Adium is not running when you do it.
- chirs, on 11/10/2007, -0/+4Except that amsn uses completely different tech than we do, and they only focus on msn.
- SteveHiggs, on 11/11/2007, -0/+4To you maybe, but for some the dashboard is a real handy feature. Having a hot corner toggle it gives me everything from sticky reminder notes, a quick access calculator, an on screen ruler (as a web designer a quick way to measure pixels etc is extremely handy), system stats, and a bunch more all within a few inches from my cursor at any time. Sure if you have no use for it, it's a good thing to turn off but it's not like it was a mistake on Apple's part to develop it.
- frozenpxl, on 11/10/2007, -0/+3I'd prefer they fix the file transfer (more like actually made it work) before working on adding audio/video features.
- stalefries, on 11/11/2007, -0/+3That's better than the 1K/sec that Skype usually gives. That's painful.
- khyberkitsune, on 11/10/2007, -0/+3Been using mebeam for nearly two or three weeks now, it's great, but it's often times VERY laggy.
Camfrog does better, but that's something you gotta download. Mebeam, all you need is flash and a web browser. - guise, on 11/10/2007, -0/+3Totally. why I get 56k transfer speeds for a 8mb peer to peer connection is beyond me.
- coldfusion1970, on 11/11/2007, -0/+2iChat doesnt support MSN and i have some friends that wont switch to AIM.
- chirs, on 11/11/2007, -0/+2Have you reported this problem to us?
- therearenorules, on 11/11/2007, -0/+2space before exclamation point !
- vacuum2440, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2meh not quite what I was expecting but its an alright temporary solution i guess
- ozroy, on 11/10/2007, -0/+2MSN transfers = slow as ***** everywhere, even using the official MS MSN client on windows.
- chirs, on 11/11/2007, -0/+2It is a temporary thing. Read the article one of our devs posted, and all of the comments and you'll see that.
- chirs, on 11/11/2007, -0/+2It'd be a "cop-out" if it wasn't just temporary.
- damnyooneek, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1its crap. the thing is a web browser based video chat. how do you uninstall this thing?
- HappyScrappy, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1Flash? No.
- littlejoe, on 11/10/2007, -1/+2ditto
- JoelCohen, on 11/11/2007, -2/+3its not working with my macbook's iSight to an MSN user, that is the only time i would ever want to use webcam
this thing is uselessly *****
I'd rather wait till they brought out integrated webcam support in adium that actually worked for me - sondr, on 11/14/2007, -0/+1Coccinella also supports MeBeam: see http://blog.mebeam.com/2007/11/a-new-kind-of-b.htm ... and http://digg.com/software/MeBeam_on_your_Daily_Buil ...
- shajuuk, on 11/10/2007, -1/+2What is the point of Adium adding video and audio support, when there will still be so many
IM's who havn't done the same ? This solution doesn't discrimintate: You can make a video
call from Adium to any jabber user on any jabber client, and have instant video conferencing ,
regardless if that person's jabber client has added a video protocol or not - not to mention
it works on windows, mac and linux. I don't see what the problem is - It doesn't modify or add
to the XMPP protocol, and gets rid of all those firewall hassles which are always haunting developers.
Instead of complaining, be happy you have something that works, and solves the problem of
compatibility between clients... Jingle will be added, but do we wait till every other jabber also
implements it ?? - fozzcorp, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1Weird. When I connect to AOL people my transfers usually go pretty fast.
- Iwantawii, on 11/10/2007, -1/+2Not a bad thing. We push for excellence.
- Eallan, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1I seem to have some difficulty connected to certain people. However thats likely a connection issue on their end. I wish the Jabber part (google talk) worked as well as it did under googles own client, otherwise, great program.
- iofthestorm, on 11/10/2007, -1/+2Pidgin...
- tomis, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1We could finally be done with Adium if the iChat team would just 1) setup a plugin system for people to add protocols and 2) use an integrated buddy list. Maybe they'll have a clue by iChat 5.0, but in the mean time the Adium team is the only hope for a decent IM client on the Mac. It's just so sad that they have to duplicate all the efforts of the iChat team to get there.
- jmreid, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1Leo iChat is really good and has replaced Adium for me as well. The main reasons is file transfer. I need to know that my IM program won't crash if someone sends me a file.
Also, iChat -> iChat has screen sharing now (great for parents) as well as the photobooth effects (great for little sisters) - coldfusion1970, on 11/18/2007, -0/+1Good call. I'm going to ditch them :-)
- bullsfan03, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1ichat sucks on tiger. now shut up
- therearenorules, on 11/10/2007, -0/+1i wish it wouldn't ***** up every time someone direct connects to me to send me a picture.
- davidhildreth, on 11/12/2007, -2/+2they aren't really your friends then are they
