- gmw666, on 05/31/2009, -17/+130Strikes me as more useful than the MacBook Air. although I still dont see a point for either. thickness has never been a problem for me, its weight and the other dimensions. I'll take a thick netbook over an Air anyday
- mentalone, on 06/01/2009, -2/+96"thickness has never been a problem for me, its weight and the other dimensions"
That's what she said? - pissshivers, on 06/01/2009, -6/+93More like a rich man's netbook.
- FishHammer, on 06/01/2009, -16/+80Identical performance at half the price doesn't sound like a knockoff, it sounds like an improvement.
- mattmollysdad, on 05/31/2009, -44/+106and it doesn't run OS X Software
- Cybrwolf, on 05/31/2009, -12/+61Oh, it does, just a slightly "tweaked" version!
- jrm125, on 06/01/2009, -33/+77I'd take this over the MacbookAir.
- afruff23, on 06/01/2009, -8/+512 GB of memory is not meager, especially not for a sub-$1000 mobile computer.
- mGARANDEUR1, on 06/01/2009, -11/+46Even if I was a rich man I wouldn't buy a Macbook Air. Stupid waste of money.
- FrostyFire, on 06/01/2009, -29/+61People need to stop writing these articles. There's always some retarded netbook that is small and light, therefore according to the author it now looks exactly the same as the MacBook Air. While it might be cheaper, there's ***** good reason for it! These machines people keep comparing are usually not even vaguely in the same class, specs wise. Let's not forgot about the design and build quality. You can't by a fast Korean car and say its design and build quality is superior to a German vehicle for instance. Well, you can, but your friends will all laugh at you.
- Memnochxx, on 06/01/2009, -1/+32He said netbook, you idiot. Not notebook.
- danydral, on 06/01/2009, -15/+42The title should read as "Smart Man's Airbook" rather then MacLame.
since it provides removable battery,Better screen resolution, faster and bigger hard drive, more ports and i guess a bit more premium model would include a better processor too. - inactive, on 06/01/2009, -11/+32So something that has more functionality than the air is considered to be a "poorman's laptop"?
- PandaBearShenyu, on 06/01/2009, -31/+50GOOD!
- KSUdesigner, on 06/01/2009, -6/+24This is not a netbook. It is pretty comparable to a MacBook Air. It has a little less power, but it's close enough to make a comparison. Try looking at the specs next time before you jump to conclusions.
- matrage, on 06/01/2009, -8/+25Easy now, put your dick back in your pants, and then back into Steve Job's ass where it belongs
- SwitchBoardCo, on 06/01/2009, -1/+17that's still what she said
- inactive, on 06/01/2009, -22/+38Don't get me wrong, I love my Macbook - but the Macbook Air is a computer for retarded people. Whenever I see someone using it I automatically pin them as an idiot.
- DangerCollie, on 06/01/2009, -8/+22The keyboard seems a little cheap. It flexes when you type on it. I thought it felt plasticy. And with Vista...slow. Holy crap slow. Best have a lot of time on your hands the first time you boot that sucker up, because you're going to be watching a slide show of complete strangers outdoors having fun, ironically without computers.
Probably because they got tired of waiting for the first boot. - 1hrSleep, on 06/01/2009, -1/+15Ditto. I want a lighter notebook, not necessarily thinner.
- inactive, on 06/01/2009, -1/+14"sounds overpriced to me."
just like the AIR... :P - inactive, on 06/01/2009, -6/+19Yea, seriously, what is with people and trying to get the best deal possible?? Its just stupid and doesn't make any sense what-so-ever. People should just shut up and pay up whatever expenses the company is charging, no matter if they are actually ripping you off or not.
As if I even need to add a sarcasm tag here. - Khirzask, on 06/01/2009, -2/+15Beat me to it.
- ethana2, on 06/01/2009, -2/+14Windows cannot run on PowerPC, ARM, or SPARC machines.
Ubuntu can. - bigteebo, on 06/01/2009, -9/+20Am I still wondering why the market wanted a thinner laptop? I never once thought to myself "You know what? This laptop is too thick, I want something ultra-thin, thinner than a USB port."
- roxgod666, on 06/01/2009, -1/+12Which is why this is the poor man's macbook air...
- AVigorVermin, on 06/01/2009, -5/+16my roommate had an air...he thought fox news was a reputable source for information.
- t0ny, on 06/01/2009, -0/+10I know someone that wanted it for the size over anything else. She has no issue with the price and is very happy with it.
I've used it for a little while and it is a very good laptop, not slow, light, nice screen, blah blah blah. - NiftyG, on 06/01/2009, -7/+17Non-idiots would understand that you can run OSX and Windows on this computer as well.
Plus it's black. Much better color for a laptop. - kaidovak, on 06/01/2009, -9/+19I'm poor and I run OSX.
- mrBitch, on 06/01/2009, -0/+9To help out FishHammer, this is FTA :
" ... X340 is powered by a 1.4-GHz Intel Core 2 Solo U3500 processor. It's a single-core processor, which is a rarity these days. And it's slower, at least on paper, than the dual-core chips found in the Air ...
... using Intel's integrated graphics was a no-brainer for MSI. Though the Air uses integrated graphics as well, its Nvidia GeForce 9400M chipset is better equipped to handle high-definition video and 3D-intensive games."
How is the above "identical performance" ? - t0ny, on 06/01/2009, -0/+8Why should I have to have 4GB? I have 2GB in my MacBook Pro right now and often the only time I have the want for more ram is when I'm running multiple virtual machines. 2GB is also more then enough for any game I play in Windows.
- jaymulder, on 06/01/2009, -12/+20Your not poor. You just choose to spend your money on shiny apple products rather than food.
- denimhead, on 06/01/2009, -19/+27that's a plus
- jakem1, on 06/01/2009, -2/+10If it was more open than Windows you'd be able to install it on anything you want.
- inactive, on 06/01/2009, -11/+18"Stop with all the anti-apple *****."
Looks like you need to stop with your unnecessary anti non-apple bashing.
the Macbook air, Like the i-Phine before it, is a great piece of coffee shop show off hardware for douche bags. - rimantas, on 06/01/2009, -0/+7Choosing the model that suits your needs best is retarded? Interesting.
My reasons to buy Air - it is slim and light, nice screen, full size keyboard, just enough power for my work (coding) and runs OS X.
I never had spare batteries for my notebooks or phones, so this is not an issue.
I don't remember when it was when I used ethernet cable, so it is not an issue either.
Lack of DVD drive is not important. I was considering buying external one, but I am glad
I didn't - never had a need for it.
So it has everything I need (screen, keyboard, OS X), and doesn't have what I don't need
(ethernet port, removable battery, DVD drive). Maybe that's retarded. - keithwired, on 06/01/2009, -3/+10If by half the things you mean just a couple of wires that are taped so they stay out of the way, then yes half the things inside are taped.
And also to say there is a very good reason why it is cheaper implies that you have seen the inside of a Macbook Air and can objectively compare the inside having less tape than the MSI X340.
And even in that situation, you would be implying that the hardware inside the Macbook Air is superior simply because there is less tape, not because of actually better hardware.
You sir fail... - bruck, on 06/01/2009, -3/+9What makes someone dumb for prefering Mac OSX and needing a super portable laptop for work?
I have 3 machines, a Macbook Pro and a Hackintosh that most often grace my home and work desks with 20+ inch monitors. When I'm on the road and meeting with clients, you bet your ass I don't want a 5lb 15inch laptop on my shoulder all day, I take out my super slim, super light MBAir and its awesome.
I understand that its not the most affordable machine on the market, but besides price I don't see what is so wrong with it for plenty of great uses. (Like Mine) - squelched, on 06/01/2009, -4/+10buried for this stupid website trying to forward me to a spam site
- inactive, on 06/01/2009, -1/+7DERP
- matrage, on 06/01/2009, -5/+11Comments = Fanboy whining when some someone DARES to compare anything to any product Apple overprices, I mean sells
- inactive, on 06/01/2009, -3/+9Why am I being buried? My bag is usually pretty packed with various books, folders, notebooks, utensils of various kinds, etc etc. A thin laptop/netbook takes up less room than a thicker one, I would of thought that would be pretty common knowledge. You might think half an inch isn't much of a difference, but it is.
Lets say an ultra-thin personal computer is 0.8", now lets compare that to your average personal computer, which is usually somewhere around, give or take, 1.5". So on average, the difference is probably around half an inch or more. Thats like one large textbook or multiple notebooks that is now no longer there because you opted for the thinner version at 0.8" instead of approx. 1.5".
Besides, nobody wants to carry around a ginormous bag or have to pry out what they need because its all packed in so tightly. - mouthymadness, on 06/01/2009, -1/+6Yeah if you want to deal with 1024X768. My Vaio NS series has the same video card and OS X has no drivers for because no mac had that particular intel video card. So you're stuck there.
- bbeep, on 06/01/2009, -2/+7MacBook Air inside view:

Large black area is the battery BTW. - mouthymadness, on 06/01/2009, -1/+6Who needs food when you have an Apple?
- almostadesigner, on 06/01/2009, -3/+8@homercles337
People like you annoying me.
Both Windows and OSX are just as easy to use as each other. Been using Windows 7 and it's has been a breeze to use. Same with with my OSX on my Mac.
Both do the same ***** thing. You really need a life when a operating system is something you need to attack. - jasonh1234, on 06/01/2009, -5/+10I love Macs and hate Windows but I would buy a Dell Mini 9 running Ubuntu or XP before I bought either the MacBook Air or this wannabe.
- Khirzask, on 06/01/2009, -5/+10Costs less than 1/3 of the MacBook Air too.
- inactive, on 06/01/2009, -6/+11Yes I am.
