- RocketGib, on 09/23/2009, -0/+30"This summer" and now "Late Morning" -- I hate how AT&T drags stuff out.
- Megor, on 09/23/2009, -10/+37MMS and cut and paste in a year, woah what an amazing product!
- Megor, on 09/23/2009, -3/+23AT&T prevented the Iphone from having cut and paste how exactly?
- getsome2k, on 09/23/2009, -0/+18better late than never
- IShouldBeWorkin, on 09/23/2009, -0/+14Does this mean I'll have to upgrade to the latest firmware, thereby de-jailbreaking my phone to get this to happen?
- CityandColourrr, on 09/23/2009, -0/+13No. As long as you are on 3.0, it should work on the 25th. Numerous reports are saying you'll have to plug in and run iTunes for it to update the carrier file if you haven't already been running the hacked IPCC.
There is no 3.1 OS required for MMS. 3.0 or later is required, however. - stevene, on 09/23/2009, -0/+12How many "just testing" videos do you think people are going to send to their friends, thus putting a huge load on the network?
- vibr8, on 09/24/2009, -0/+8AT&T, keeping America's iPhone users behind the rest of the world™
It's pretty funny tbh, but then i don't live in America. - roxgod666, on 09/24/2009, -1/+9"Neither do half the people I know who have iPhones"
So half the people you know with iPhones wanted copy and paste? Half of the people is not exactly something "nobody gives a ***** about". - Mateo2, on 09/24/2009, -0/+8Megor: Uh, duh, AT&T blocked cut and paste because it would clog up their networks. You see, if you can copy and paste stuff it means you will use twitter more often, send email more often, and in general use your phone more often. You see, anything that allows you to use your phone to 10% of it's potential will clog up the networks. You don't need that stuff though, it's more important that you have access to pop3 mail, usenet, and compuserve forums.
- digitalpencil, on 09/24/2009, -2/+8i don't think you can realistically blame the handset for this (no matter how much you personally might want to).. MMS has been working on the iPhone everywhere else in the world since launch, it's just ATT that sucks balls.
on a side-note, "whoopy-de-*****-doo".. ***** ATT, no-one gives a ***** about MMS btu it should've been there in the first ***** place and they're sorely mistaken if they think everyone's going to throw an eParade over the heavily belated arrival of MMS.. - eraser852, on 09/24/2009, -0/+5Thank you for that info. I was wondering the same thing.
- ShellShock11, on 09/24/2009, -1/+6Pretty sure summer ended yesterday. Just saying.
- sykotik, on 09/24/2009, -1/+5You see, AT&T is struggling to keep up with the millions of new users using iPhones. You have to understand, the growth of "smart phones" since the iphone was launched is unprecedented. They have to keep up with millions of brand new, multimedia heavy, iphones, as well as existing products that have new multimedia-ccentric functionality.
It's easy to complain, but realize the scope of what you're complaining about. If this had been T-Mobile, the results would have been the same. If it was Verizon, the results would have been the same. You need to grasp the sheer magnitude of what is actually happening out there. We're talking growth over months of 200%+, when that's millions of people, that's a huge thing.
You've got to look at the big pictures is all I'm saying. It doesn't matter if it was AT&T or any other company, the results would have been the same. It was hoped that the iPhone would be successful, but no one expected the level of success it achieved. That's a heavy toll on any infrastructure. - lntrigue, on 09/24/2009, -0/+4will this new carrier profile replace/break my tethering profile?
- whosmatt, on 09/24/2009, -0/+4Kind of like when they send a technician out -- "sometime between 8AM and 8PM" Gee thanks.
- Zippo, on 09/24/2009, -0/+4Do you Americans have tethering too yet? Honestly, MMS is definitely a feature I couldn't care less about. I've only sent one MMS since it became available in June, and that was to test it. I'd much rather just send an e-mail with an attachment and save my 50¢.
- GeoffPeterson, on 09/24/2009, -0/+4Just get it out already! The iPhone is the most advanced phone on the market, yet still can't receive picture or video texts.
- megamod, on 09/23/2009, -0/+4My started working today!!! I had the carrier file hack but it still failed whenever I tried to send MMS and today it randomly worked when I tried.
- Mateo2, on 09/24/2009, -0/+3sykotik: Poor excuse. If I'm a company, and a promise a product to my customers, and I can't provide said product because I have TOO MANY CUSTOMERS, then what's the business solution? Stop signing up new customers.
- Alienkid, on 09/23/2009, -3/+6It's about time, but does anyone still actively care about the missing features on the iPhone on AT&T? It has been a game of tolerate and wait for iPhone users.
At least I don't have to do all the copy and paste and all that other nonsense just to see a picture someone sent me. - SDM187, on 09/24/2009, -1/+4just like the titanic
- newman8r, on 09/24/2009, -0/+3it really just depends on where you're located
- mizled, on 09/24/2009, -0/+3Same. Mine started working today as well. It seems really slow though and when someone sends me an MMS it takes about 30 minutes to an hour before I actually get it.
Edit: I'm using Firmware 3.0.1 jailbroken with redsn0w - whosmatt, on 09/24/2009, -0/+3You can jailbreak 3.1 now.
- arial, on 09/24/2009, -0/+3I've had MMS on my iPhone 2G on T-Mobile for a while now I feel for you AT&T customers. Also why leave out the 2G customers not everyone can afford to upgrade their iPhone when they add a better camera every year.
- Taiyoryu, on 09/24/2009, -0/+3How about restoring "free" tethering. I only had to use it twice, but it was nice to have in a pinch. An unlimited data plan should be unlimited. Not being able to tether seems like a limit to me.
- MacHarborGuy, on 09/24/2009, -0/+2I have been sending and receiving images for the past hour with no problem. I send one, my friend sends one back. No crazy long delays.
- Megor, on 09/24/2009, -1/+3My understanding is the first version of the Iphone did not support MMS and Wikipedia (Grain of salt mind you) says that "iPhone MMS will be distributed to AT&T customers in the U.S. on September 25, 2009.[2] The first generation iPhone will not have the ability for MMS services."
Every other phone on the AT&T network works with MMS (if the hardware supports it), and it's one of their cash cows so it doesn't make sense for AT&T to block that feature. The problem probably came from having a mixed environment of phones that supported MMS and ones that did not, a problem that is exclusive to AT&Ts network - MacHarborGuy, on 09/24/2009, -0/+2Straight from Apple's own website
"MMS is not supported on first-generation iPhone." - Seng, on 09/24/2009, -0/+2Maybe when they said "Late summer" they sent it over their own network, and it dropped "r than" from the sentence.
- gsfgf, on 09/24/2009, -1/+3The good - I'll be able to get pix messages
The bad - every pic message I've ever gotten has been of a drunk dude's balls (usually on a passed out person's face) - rossisdead, on 09/24/2009, -0/+2You're confusing North American iPhone users with Apple
- Jimmylecroy21, on 09/24/2009, -3/+5***** AT&T!
- CryoNine, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1Their argument for not putting in Cut and Paste right away made a lot of sense. Look at the other touchscreen devices that have it... sure they have it, but it kind of sucks. Copy and Paste the way it works on the iPhone is actually very intuitive.
That said, the lack of MMS from the get go on a MULTI-MEDIA PHONE was kind of a joke. I can't say that I've missed it (even once) over the past three years, and personally I hate MMS messages in the first place. However, that doesn't mean that it was acceptable that it took them this long to implement a simple feature.
Apples biggest blunder was settling on AT&T. - Mareshalu, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1Will att charge for mms if you don't even have a sms plan you're paying for?
- bigsteve, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1Was the iPhone 3G, with it's better camera, faster cell network, GPS, also bigger storage, also supposed to have a racing stripe to distinguish it from iPhone h/w 1?
I've also been sending MMS messages from day one, free and legally, via email / SMS gateway... just attach a JPG to the email and it sends an MMS instead of an SMS. I won't be sending any once it goes live, either. I don't need to spend a couple coins to send a message that me and other people who know what they're doing have been sending free for years.
Whether you're a troll or just another hater, doesn't really matter. More setting things straight in case someone out there didn't know the actual truth. - nate5532, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1Att drops my calls like crazy too. Sometimes a call will drop 3-4 times in a 15 minute total conversation. Keep the damn MMS, unscrew your service, and stop dropping my calls!
- mizled, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1I've only tested MMS from a Verizon customer so that may account for the lag time. I'll try and test out MMS with an AT&T customer and see if it is faster.
- unic0rn, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1Took long enough?
- bigsteve, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1I believe it's 0.20USD for SMS and 0.30USD for MMS. AT&T (at least said they wouldn't) differentiate between SMS and MMS if you have a messaging plan, like that $5 for 200 messages one.
- WestonP, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1Mine seems to be working as of yesterday. OS 3.1, not jail-broken, just the MMS + tethering carrier config file. It used to fail to send because AT&T was blocking MMS for iPhone IMEI numbers, but now it works.
- dummptyhummpty, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1Apparently it's already working. I just successfully sent a picture to my girlfriend. (To enable it on the phone: http://www.krillr.com/blog/N72ZCXJH/tutorial-mms-o ...
- sykotik, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1I'm not saying your wrong, though I doubt many companies would have that mentality, I'm just thinking it was Apple selling the iPhone with AT&T playing the back-end infrastructure game.
- cifrancgx, on 09/26/2009, -0/+1The same way it currently works. You will get a text message with a link to AT&T's viewmymessage.com website.
More details here...

- rusty_g, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1so is mine, i have been getting pictures and vids all day:
http://bit.ly/97mTk - cifrancgx, on 09/26/2009, -0/+1But the iPhone can send and receive pictures/video/audio via email attachments which makes MMS pretty pointless. Sending them via email is more reliable as well since MMS especially between carriers has proven to be pretty unreliable.
- mizled, on 09/24/2009, -0/+1Why am I getting down modded when I'm correct? The first gen iPhone will not have MMS support from Apple. Sure you might can use a jailbreak App to get it working but Apple says the hardware isn't supported.
http://www.apple.com/iphone/
"MMS support from AT&T coming in late summer. MMS is not supported on first-generation iPhone."
This is why I hate Digg. Useful/correct information gets down modded. *Goes back to Reddit* - Zippo, on 09/25/2009, -0/+1Tethering is certainly useful. It was a god-send when I was moving at the beginning of August and had over a week without home internet.
But MMS is entirely useless to me. It costs 50¢ to send or receive MMS without a package... and up until recently it cost a ***** fortune (you were likely charged per kilobyte)... so few phones around here really support it and no one uses it anyways. Anyone with a smartphone has e-mail anyways, so why bother with MMS? -
