- HA5TY, on 06/08/2009, -20/+929***** AT&T!!!
- arhseven, on 06/08/2009, -6/+559Settle down. There's a perfectly good explanation for this. AT&T is simply taking the time to see how much more they can charge for a feature that should have been there in the first place. I'm guessing it'll go like this, "MMS arrives for the iPhone! You can have it for the low price of $19.95 a month added to your current text messaging plan."
***** AT&T. I hope this bad press continues. - digitalpencil, on 06/08/2009, -4/+443I don't even own an iPhone (or live in the US for that matter) but when i saw Chen's feed on Giz reading "No MMS support from ATT until late summer" all you can think is WTF? I mean this is legacy tech.. it's already antiquated, by the late summer it'll be like supporting faxes.
Seriously, ATT needs to sort their ***** out. It looks like they're taking steps in overhauling the 3G infrastructure to allow for true streaming video at variable data rates but they've known about this ***** for ***** eons in advance. they really need to loosen their purse-strings and invest in their network if they expect to keep exclusivity contracts in the future.. - dawa259, on 06/08/2009, -4/+392I'm starting to wonder if they want to keep the iPhone on their network.
- SRSco, on 06/08/2009, -2/+315I've never really complained about AT&T before. Until now. This is just absurd. I love how Apple threw up all the other carriers who are ready to roll with tethering and MMS. Kind of a sweet little passive aggressive jab at AT&T.
- RadiantSilver, on 06/08/2009, -9/+227Screw AT&T, I'm switching to Cingular!!
- ticookie, on 06/08/2009, -5/+196They're screwing us over on the price too.
http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/shop_iphone/ ...
Look at the fine print. "(2) Requires new two-year AT&T wireless service contract, sold separately to qualified customers; credit check required; must be 18 or older. For non-qualified customers, including existing AT&T customers who want to upgrade from another phone or replace an iPhone 3G, the price with a new two-year agreement is $499 (8GB), $599 (16GB), or $699 (32GB)."
What the heck, AT&T. - lydiasky, on 06/08/2009, -5/+176Yeah, AT&T is the reason why I won't get an iPhone. They're invested too much into themselves rather than the demands and wants of their users.
- Braindead360, on 06/08/2009, -1/+153I really hope that since Apple has now built USB and Bluetooth tethering functionality into the OS, jailbreakers will figure out how to unlock it. Until then, lets all send hate-mail to AT&T's CEO! randall.stephenson@att.com
- haikuFU, on 06/08/2009, -2/+136ATT no longer meets the needs of Apple. Apple needs to cut them loose.
- durruticolumn, on 09/18/2009, -0/+94
If I'm paying full price, why do I need to sign a new contract? - Animan351, on 06/08/2009, -1/+79So they can finish raping you.
- gdog05, on 06/08/2009, -3/+79What, are you ***** stupid? YOU'RE AN AT&T CUSTOMER!!! Of course you're being screwed!
- alpha88, on 06/08/2009, -15/+91Suck it up, at least you're not in Canada. We get stuck with one of the worst iPhone plans, and we had to wait way longer to get it.
- Tekkfu, on 06/08/2009, -1/+75Save your money and jailbreak you phone and tether all you want. $30 for data then another $30 for tether? ***** you AT&T
- ravage86, on 06/08/2009, -4/+74I just got an e-mail from Apple saying I could buy an iPhone and use it for tethering, and now AT&T is saying I can't?
- mrsteveman1, on 06/08/2009, -0/+66You guys really signed the wrong contract if it included things like blowing and ass *****.
- WasabiBomb, on 06/08/2009, -0/+62Yeah, I figured out today that it will be cheaper for me to cancel my account and pay the prorated termination fee to get the new customer pricing.
Buy new iPhone on current account= $699
Cancel account, pay termination fee ($115 with 12 months' prorated discount), and get new iPhone for ($299)= $414 - SkippyDoorknob, on 06/08/2009, -0/+56I don't get it. I've had AT&T for a long time now and have been able to do MMS the whole time, but not an iPhone. Why would the phone make a difference?
- Tekkfu, on 06/08/2009, -9/+65Apple and At&T are screwing us 3G owners. How come I can get video on my 3g NOW! by running with a jailbreak app. but I need to pay $299 again to get without a jailbreak. plus all the other ***** they are not giving us. ***** you AT&T 200 text for $5 WTF and Apple the same ***** with their $30 iphone dock. ***** YOU ALL! I miss you T-Mobile
- jjones20, on 06/08/2009, -3/+58Its pretty crazy, but when it does come out im expecting them to offer an MMS package, as well as your Text messaging package, ontop of your Data package.
Which, technically, its all Data, so youre being charged 3 times for the same thing. - filovirus, on 06/08/2009, -11/+65I would love an iPhone that says Verizon on it.
- LiquidIse, on 06/08/2009, -4/+55I've had my fingers crossed that the Pre takes off and makes Sprint a major competitor.
Today's keynote only strengthened my sentiment.
/disgruntled iphone user - tedjar, on 06/08/2009, -8/+57This is why I don't own an iPhone. AT&T can shove it up their arse. T-Mobile FTW.
- 1longtime, on 06/08/2009, -12/+55Jesus Christ, sensationalist title with blood thirsty first comment.
AT&T is the only company that has declined to steal all my money THREE TIMES over four years as a customer. Twice from overages on minutes from a family plan, and once from running up data usage in South America.
Rather than ***** me in the ass, they changed my plan or figured out a way to NOT screw me. Three times. In total, AT&T chose to NOT ***** me out of $2,000.
Verizon, however, ***** me once and can blow me for life, and Tmobile is just as bad. - diulei, on 06/08/2009, -2/+43Apple went to Verizon first. Verizon declined because Jobs. & Co. wanted too much control.
- sleze, on 06/08/2009, -6/+44Jail
Break
A new one will be available shortly... - inactive, on 06/08/2009, -1/+39I think Apple has more an incentive now to supply to ALL the big wireless providers - instead of an exclusive.
- bodger, on 06/08/2009, -1/+36Probably - Rogers drop connections all the time...
- gametavern, on 06/08/2009, -1/+35Yup. I'm paying three times what I should for a cell phone bill. Why do I do this to myself?
- ugacrew, on 06/08/2009, -2/+34If I had a dollar for anytime AT&T was mentioned in the same sentence featuring the phrase "***** me over big time", I'd be a wealthy geek instead of a poor one.
- Chompy, on 06/08/2009, -0/+32You know customer service standards are low when "at least they didn't deliberately steal my money" is listed as a plus.
- MtheoryX, on 06/08/2009, -1/+31You and Chen are done, professionally.
- maliath, on 06/08/2009, -2/+32We all know we can already tether with ATT. They just haven't figured out a clever way to screw us over with inflated prices and inferior software to do it yet.
- macslut, on 06/08/2009, -1/+29What pisses me off is that there's no information on when they're going to allow tethering or how much it will cost. Tell us you can't offer it for a year, or two, or whatever the situation is and we'll make plans accordingly...or just continue to use PDAnet and do it for free anyway.
- davidwasman, on 06/08/2009, -1/+28*sole
Unless you meant Apple is using James Brown. Then, maybe. - boxxa, on 06/08/2009, -5/+31I honestly don't think ATT's network can handle this phone and all the new data going through it yet. With massive people wanting to send MMS and tether, they are still doing upgrades all over the country to handle this wave of data.
Look at all the problems they had during SXSW when all the cell phone users were crashing the networks from all the data. Now you will have push notifications running all the time, MMS pictures, SMS messages, cell calls, and tethering. It requires one heck of an upgrade to the 3G network on top of the 3.5 provisions its working on for the iPhone 3GS - SamSks, on 06/08/2009, -5/+31Take that eMail and file a complaint with: your public service or public utilities commission, you state's attorney general's office -they usually have a Consumer protection unit, the FTC, the FCC, and the Better Business Bureau -BBB.ORG.
Complain to every and anyone who'll take the complaint.
Oh, and bitch to Apple. Kaite Cotton: katiec@apple.com She's the VP of corp communications at Apple. Tell her that you feel screwed over by AT&T and Apple for making this deal with the Devil.
Start bitching!
Just paying and taking it in the ass will only encourage those *****! - enclaved, on 06/08/2009, -0/+24Mikkle, original owners weren't subsidized, that's why they could offer them the upgrades. They already paid FULL price for the first phone.
- phpfreak, on 06/08/2009, -0/+21Same here. I'm not an expert on cellular technologies, but I seriously doubt AT&T has to do THAT much to prep for allowing MMS on one phone on their network. It's probably very simple, but they're probably still trying to figure out how to charge for it...
- schmidt349, on 06/08/2009, -0/+20I have an unlocked iPhone 2G on T-Mobile. I pay a very sweet low monthly rate, and I'm no longer locked into a 2 year contract.
Seriously, this is the best route for anyone who wants Apple goodness without AT&T suckage. - jparkinson, on 06/08/2009, -1/+21You know you're doing a ***** job when you make Rogers look like the good guys..
- graemee, on 06/08/2009, -0/+20mrsteveman1 - I'm pretty sure it's in the small print on ALL the carriers.
- evilhomer2300, on 06/08/2009, -3/+22Verizon has the largest network, and better coverage. Yeah, ATT has better phones, but you can't top Verizon's network.
Who would you suggest we use in the US, if both ATT and Verizon are bad?
T-Mobile doesn't have coverage in MANY places and limited 3G.
We won't even mention Sprint. - pixelate, on 06/08/2009, -3/+22@theDoublecross - Double wooosh!!! Wow, you almost never see those!
- jayhawk88, on 06/08/2009, -1/+20You really have to wonder if Apple is just purposefully torpedoing ATT, to help them justify moving the iPhone to other carriers at some point.
- harvinator24, on 06/08/2009, -1/+19you have it backwards, verizon wanted to put all its ***** multimedia services on the device. Why would apple want the terrible v cast service on their phones when they have the itunes music store.
- shyguy5101, on 06/08/2009, -4/+22This is why my 2G iPhone is running on TMobile.
- MacEnvy, on 06/08/2009, -9/+26The subsidized price is subsidized for a reason. Of all the things to complain about, this is the least troubling.
- ulcards2033, on 06/08/2009, -3/+20because apple would never think about overcharging...
