- wpholmes, on 10/12/2007, -6/+32It looks nice, but too "in your face" to use all the time. It's hard to improve on what apple did so well to start...
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20http://www.duggmirror.com/apple/AMORA_The_Long_Awaited_Mac_OS_X_Theme_Has_Just_been_released/
I'm not real sure I like it from the screenshots... - tucsonwc, on 10/12/2007, -8/+26I agree, that looks hideous.
- GodsHand, on 10/12/2007, -7/+22Are we all joking here? That is not an attractive theme by any stretch of the imagination.
- nTensify, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13Would love to.
Quoth the server: 404. - SLP1111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12http://www.unsanity.net/beta/shapeshifter-24b3.dmg
Here is the link to the Intel beta version of Shape Shifter, the software you need to install the theme. - P0W3RMAC, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11I do what I think most Mac users do, they love new exciting themes but after a day of using it, they switch back to Aqua (or UNO) because of usability. This theme is really the only theme (IMO) other than an aqua-variant that's usable. The screenshots don't do any justice at all. You have to try it to believe it.
What I find comforting is that this theme generated so much hype and guess what? It actually lived up to it.
{PM} - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Absolutely not what I had hoped for.
- highpass, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12You can always count on JCR's constructive, well thought-out, almost troll-like opinion.
The theme does include 3 variants, with the latter two being slightly less cluttered than the original. I've spoken to Lanham about usability, both he and friends have been using this for months, without any of the problems usually found when trying anything other than the standard Aqua GUI or Uno.
So far i've no problems with it, can see myself using it for quite a while without tiring, but we'll see. - Caulfield, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9yick!
- shanal, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11Yeah seriously, I really don't like the aethetics of this at all. I really dislike his scheming he did especially for the top left of windows, its just chaotic and out of place. Not a fan -_-
- nealibob, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I wouldn't even really say that it looks good. And it really isn't functional at all, unless you like to paint your walls to obscure the light switches and so on.
- NetworkShadow, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Looks really great when in use, screens don't do it justice.
- pbjorge12, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Yes...
- guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Who's been waiting for this?
- krewemaynard, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12It's ugly. There, I said it.
I love working on my iBook. I love the theme, and mainly, the fact that I don't think about my theme. It's there...it works...when I look for something, I find it...when I'm working, it's out of the way. It's better than anything in Windows, and it's certainly got a leg up on Linux (I love my Gnome desktop, but things could be better.)
As always, YMMV. - spooq, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Hes referring to NSResponder, who signs off with "jcr". And I happen to agree - the guy is a troll, and now hes an ignored troll.
- noseeme, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6It's very skillfully done, but I don't like it. I just don't think he's on the right track.
Something more simple would have worked better. - jonst52, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8I'm digging it because it looks very nice and it deserves to be in front page, but no way in hell I will use it. I'm more a Iridium (ie gray, plain, dull) kind of guy.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8True. As a Linux weenie, I change the colour from blue to graphite and the Aqua UI looks awesome.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Why do theme designers all too often forget about usability?
- epheterson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I'm going to have to second you on that, definately not the simplicity I enjoy while on a Mac.
- willexi, on 10/12/2007, -3/+9It passed ugly about two towns back and kept on going.
- SLP1111, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7To each his own..
But I do agree this theme is not all that great. It is very rigid compared to the stream lined OSX feel- also red seems to be in sharp contrast to everything Mac, it looks very out of place housed in my white iMac. Comes off as very Windows to me, that with a hint of Alienware. Nonetheless a lot of work went into this theme and it should not go unnoticed. - FlyingLlama, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6duggmirror!
http://www.duggmirror.com/apple/AMORA_The_Long_Awaited_Mac_OS_X_Theme_Has_Just_been_released/ - serpicolugnut, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6David is a very talented guy, but this theme doesn't do it for me. Looks like it would fit in well with a nice futuristic SciFi movie, but overall, it's not very practical looking.
- heffae, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Alienware actually does have a theme that ships on their new computers. And is a perfect example of what not to do.
- neosublime, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Link to the icons...
http://198.145.247.39/assets/freeware/amra/icontainer.dmg - swindmill, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"That's probably why I don't use my Mac very often"
not sure how this makes sense . . . - JimmyRyan, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7That looks HORRIBLE!!!!!!! I would never subject myself to that horrible computing experience!!!
- penguinboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Long awaited theme? Maybe for umm.. two people. This is such an eyesore that I don't see why anyone would want to replace the default OSX theme with it.
- musicbear, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4@Caufield
Agreed. - codyman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Hmmm.. not sure if I really like it or not...
- RUSSEL760, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4finally this theme gets released i love it!
- SLP1111, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Works fine- just download the beta version of the universal binary that I posted in a comment above ( http://www.unsanity.net/beta/shapeshifter-24b3.dmg )
- rspeed, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Very.
Not because of the tools available, mind you, but because there's an immense number of textures to create. - brianmost, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Urgh. So ugly only a mother could love...
Edit: Mom just said she doesn't like it either. - feverish, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6geez. that's really ugly.
- etruscan, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3For me, the aesthetic of the desktop is important. My computer sits centrally in the house and I want it to look nice. I'm also a designer, so that may have something to do with it. I don't want to sacrifice a lot of resources just for form though. That's probably why I don't use my Mac very often - and alternately why I can't stand the Win2K or "classic" XP theme.
It's all about balance. - mutz, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3fugly
- bogaut, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6without a doubt the best theme, looks like lanham has set a new standard in themes
- afraydocurado, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I feel the same way, I thought the theme was over hyped, and was afraid that all of this anticipation had been built up and the theme would not live up to expectation. Well I was wrong, I think I speak for everyone when I say it went beyond our expectation.
- iluvhatemail, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3looks nice, lanham is amazing.
- gwenli, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Lanham, you rock.
- lonelycanuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3What ever happened to BBX OMEGA? Are we still waiting for that?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I like the request for an uno unified theme in black. that would be sharp.
- pyro116, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Have you tried the two other variants included? They're a lot simpler, some might even say too spare. Very Milk-like.
- flag564, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5It looks like a reject from Litestep.
Seriously, there are alot of themes from DesktopX that look better. - liek, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Thanks David, it's an amazing theme :D
- Paralex, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4Downloaded it the second it was released. I love it. I'm just waiting for the Icon Factory to open to get the icons. Great theme!
