- andrewcsayer, on 12/06/2007, -2/+34I was hoping for 9 predictions for Macworld 2009
- jpt62089, on 12/06/2007, -6/+29I would like a new system in between the Mini and the Pro... So... The Mac. So basically iMac-like specs, but in a mini-tower.
There is a big gap there that Apple needs to fill. - angrycat, on 12/06/2007, -2/+25Reality distortion field... ENGAGE!
- AhmedF, on 12/06/2007, -3/+17Yes gimme a better AppleTV and a nicer Mac Mini
- Tooley7, on 12/06/2007, -0/+13Definitely for sure, iPhone SDK, iTunes movie rental deal, and the MacBook Pro. Subnotebook would be neat.

8- 32gig iPhone and iTouch - MixMastaKooz, on 12/06/2007, -1/+10superKduper will STILL be a douchebag.
- TheWorm, on 12/06/2007, -0/+8The MBP badly needs a redesign? Why fix it if it's not broke? It's one of the best designed laptops on the market. Plus, the design fits in with their alluminum thing now more than ever.
- cjmack, on 12/06/2007, -3/+11Penryn Mac Pro with better video card options (e.g. 8800 GTX)
- dragon76, on 12/06/2007, -1/+9YOU think it's a gap, but Apple's sales aren't showing a gap. Apple sells a lot more of the high end then the low. It would be smart because Apple could sell the tower and the display and make more money but portables are what's driving the industry and especially Apple right now and we're not likely to see an additional offering for the dying desktop.
- pyrates, on 12/06/2007, -0/+8why the hell was this linked to a comment?
- johnpaul191, on 12/06/2007, -0/+6seriously... people have called for this gap filler since the iMac first hit. people said Apple needed something between the consumer iMac and the pro level tower. i suppose the cube fit that gap, but never sold well. the Mac Mini has lower specs than the iMac (look at the graphics chips).
now that the iMac comes in large screen sizes, and supports display spanning..... i am not sure there is as much "need" for this as there was 5+ years ago. if Apple didn't make one then, i am not sure they will make one now.
it should also be noted that one of the first things Steve Jobs did when he came back to Apple was to simplify the lineup. look at lowendmac.com or everymac.com, before Jobs returned there were a zillion different Macs being sold. it was kind of confusing to shoppers in a pre-interweb time. he likes to keep things simple and clean. i would probably like that in-between Mac as much as anyone, but i would not hold my breath. - superal1394, on 12/06/2007, -0/+6I can see where you are coming from on the Shuffle, but the Nano is definately NOT low end. It is a very high end product. You can get the exact same capacity and capabilities for probably 100 dollars less from iRiver or another company of the sorts. The difference is, you don't have a nifty brushed aluminum exterior and the Apple logo.
- craig4, on 12/06/2007, -2/+8another bingo card?
- Dralite, on 12/06/2007, -1/+7Ummm... Apple Displays? Of all the things that need updating, the displays need it the most. Apple TV update is obvious, itunes downloads, what else, i have no clue. I can't think of what they would do to the mac mini's accept more bang for your buck (i.e. larger HD, more memory, higher end Intel Chip, same pice points, etc.). Low end iPhone sub $200
If, and this is a big if, they put 16gb in the iPhone... i swear i will buy one the 1st day - superal1394, on 12/06/2007, -0/+6roll
- loganhuddleston, on 12/06/2007, -2/+8you are on a role. two ***** comments.
- Eggman, on 12/06/2007, -0/+6what about a good joke?
- 3vno, on 12/06/2007, -3/+9how about HD content for the appletv?
- monger68, on 12/06/2007, -1/+7they all ready have a line of power tools forming outside of an apple store near you...
- stacky, on 12/06/2007, -0/+6Unfortunately it will never happen. That computer would be directly competing with Dell, whose competing boxes have very low profit margins. Apple would not make enough money on the 'Mac' for it to be viable.
- rdhaag, on 12/06/2007, -5/+11The MacBook Pro will be completely redesigned... it needs it badly. The AppleTV will also be upgraded as this is a must have for Apple in the future.
- MacParrot, on 12/06/2007, -0/+6No you're not a douchbag, but think positive! You'll move up to that one day.
- edicius, on 12/06/2007, -0/+5No iPhone hardware updates until summer at the earliest, they need to make more of their development costs back first. There is still a lot of life left in the current design.
- gula, on 12/06/2007, -7/+12Damn I love comment 45235.
- WolfDV, on 12/06/2007, -3/+8I want to see a 10-12'' mac tablet
- robbh66, on 12/06/2007, -6/+11And you think the MBP needs a redesign because?
What REALLY needs an update is the Airport Express- bump to N and add a second ethernet port :/ - robbh66, on 12/06/2007, -0/+5I'm looking at a MBP that's over a year old as I type right now. It looks great- if yours doesn't it's because you mistreat yours. MagSafe can be annoying at times- but I'll gladly give that up since it's saved my laptop from probable death on at least 3 occasions.
You don't understand laptop design very well so I'll clue you in: the smaller and more compact something is, the more sacrifices you're going to make to get it to work. Your laptop is an inch thick- yet very powerful at the same time. As a result- they don't have a lot of room to cram all that crap in there. Instead of being 2"s thick like most laptops that powerful, Apple uses the case itself to provide the rigidity so they don't waste space on an internal frame of sorts. Cutting another hole in it to make the HD easier to remove/replace is going to seriously weaken it- especially considering it would be at the corner where the HDD is currently located. Same goes for the airport card- unless you want to have a removable panel to the left of your keyboard.
Two express cards simply wouldn't fit in this laptop- sorry. As for your ambient light comment- what do you want them to do? Design a sensor that knows that light is falling on the grill but not the keyboard? Hell, maybe they should put a sensor in EVERY key so that way everyone is lit up appropriately. Of course you could just PRESS F10 instead of bitching about it. Wireless USB is just coming to market, if even that, why not ask for something else a little more plausible?
Finally- why would they put an HDMI port on there? Use an adapter. The space for an HDMI port could be a lot more useful for say a SATA port. - lkv87, on 12/06/2007, -1/+6Because the design is old?
Also, the MBP harddrive is a pain in the butt to remove whilst the MB harddrive comes out super easy; so which is the high end machine again? - Tippis, on 12/06/2007, -0/+5The thing I think most people feel is missing is a non-Pro Mac that can be upgraded the same way the Pro can. It doesn't need to have the same high-end components, nor the same *amount* of extensibility (few normal users need 4 PCIE slots, dual sockets, or eight DIMM slots) -- just *some* room for improvement over time, without throwing everything out at once.
- aduzik, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4I dugg this article specifically because of number 5: No iTablet. Ever. It doesn't make sense. The iPhone/iPod touch already does most of the stuff you'd want to do on a tablet. If you want to do more, buy a MacBook.
- itchytooth, on 12/06/2007, -6/+10I predict booms.
- MacParrot, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4FINALLY, one accurate prediction!
- MacParrot, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4Really? Pretty standard stuff here on digg. Here's the way it works. On Microsoft posts, Apple and Linux fanboys say lots of stupid things, most of which stopped being true about ten years ago. Linux posts have Microsoft fanboys screaming about how great games are on PCs with Windows. They do much the same on Mac posts. Apparently if someone dares to use some other tech than they do, they deserve to go straight to hell.
I'm obviously a Mac user, but I really don't care what other people use, - robbh66, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fallacy
Read that article before you make yourself look like a bigger idiot. - Dragon247, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4No you can't. You can either choose to have it illuminated or not. Mac OS X has to determine that it needs to be on before it turns on. You cannot turn on the keyboard backlighting if it is not already on, you can choose how BRIGHT you want it, but you cannot manually turn on the light if it's not already on.
- superal1394, on 12/06/2007, -1/+5You know, you can get a Subaru WRX STI with 300 hp, all wheel drive, booming stereo and the likes, and you know what, its a beast.
But it can't touch a BMW 335XI, which has 300 hp, all wheel drive, booming stereo and the likes.
Whats the difference? you ask. Difference is, its a BMW. You don't get why its so different until you drive it. Same with Apple products, you don't get what makes them so great, until you use one. - tnoy, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4Yeah, to that super-fast, high-end X1900 XT!
- ericxoxp, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4Apple is doing what the car inds. has been doing for years. You don't need to change your car, but that new year model sure looks good !
- tacotruck08, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4Dugg for the expression on Steve Jobs's face.
- thushan, on 12/06/2007, -0/+4so are people who abuse CAPS.
Sorry, I'm no fan of Apple but have the decency to not scream in the vacuum of the internets... - Okari, on 12/06/2007, -2/+5I think they have it out because it's the only cheap computer they have out and they think it will sell because of it. Though it's a pretty crappy computer with parts you'd find in a $300. Why people pay these prices will always puzzle me.
- superal1394, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3Aint gonna happen.
as innovative as Apple may be, I dont see tablet being one of those innovative paths Apple is willing to go down. - dragon76, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3I wouldn't be surprised after the NBC/Universal fiasco that Apple introduces recording features of Apple TV with commercial skip.
- DavisCollins, on 12/06/2007, -0/+3I hope more than anything that they update the Cinema Display's with LED and iSight built-in. Please Apple! It is all I ask of you!
- BlackStrain, on 12/06/2007, -1/+4Magsafe has saved my macbook from damage on more than one occasion.
