I have 400 Cd's and so my music collection is at around 25 Gig at the moment plus a couple videos and files I keep stored on my iPod.
Some people have more Music or More Movies than I do. plus if you save your songs at a high bit-rate then that takes up more space.
My brother also uses his iPod as a backup hard drive for his computer.

It just takes an interest in multiple genres of music to fill up quite a bit of space. I don't expect this much room in a portable player, but it would be nice to sync up collections and not worry about what you might want at any particular time.
This is not to be snobby, it's just to point out that there are people who are interested in more portable storage. Currently just using a Rio Carbon but if that ever dies (hard to say if it will - its been dropped everywhere and is only scratched). I might check out a new iPod - 80 GB wouldn't go astray with some video files and if its compatible with my digital camera it becomes a portable harddrive if I'm away from a computer for a while. How fragile are they typically?
