- Jadinlee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+52Its a marketing stunt to drive traffic to their site as well as broad awareness of their company. Its likely working. No digg from me for this companies effort to exploit ipod fans.
Sure, Apple may release just such an ipod... but the story is pure marketing stunt. - jackcheng, on 10/12/2007, -0/+26FYI: when the new Macbooks were introduced, the iPod became the only video-capable device in Apple's consumer product lineup that *doesn't* have a widescreen display.
- Mikecol, on 10/12/2007, -2/+18Do you have a 60" pocket to carry that Sony around?
- Alphateam, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I guess we will know on Tuesday.
- dayquil, on 10/12/2007, -1/+13No, it means 16 pixels by 9 pixels.
Come on, don't be such a cop. You know damn well the meaning was obvious. - maverick999, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Here's a spot they forgot to change:
http://www.4flix.net/movies/index.php?cPath=65 - Quix, on 10/12/2007, -4/+13"I'll take my 60" Sony over a 2" iPod anyday. Size does matter." - rebrad
Thank you for that brilliant insight, Captain Obvious! - tofagerl, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Macbook! Just a few months ago, the rumours were spot on.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7I'll believe it when I see an actual picture of the iPod or when Steve pulls the thing out of his pocket.
Untill then, it's all speculation - bryguy000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Doesn't matter if they are right or not. People always want what they can't have. Even me.
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Won't that mean competing with Apple's own store, will they allow that?
/not being sarcastic, would they want to allow that?? - masterspy7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6They probably just put it there for traffic.
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Don't write the word "confirmed" then put a question mark after it. Very misleading - it's either confirmed or it's not.
- ttkgeek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6It's a small indie site, of course they would put this, just to earn visitors.
- underburn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5but they were still right.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Who's the douchebag again?
Hey, they need you back on the Pokemon message boards. - serpentor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6All the time on my PSP on the train in to work. Watched all 5 seasons of 24, season 2 of BSG, along with countless films. All in PMP format and 16:9, I'd have to say in the past 12 months I've watched more media on my PSP than on any other format (though I am a huge exception). I'd prefer plasma, and could easily afford plasma, but I'm more often at work or traveling for work these days..
- dayquil, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Somebody needs help with the definition of "confirmed".
For future reference, if it isn't from the horse's mouth, save it. Please. - suprfli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6good point about the marketing stunt. probably best not to digg it.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7http://duggmirror.com/apple/6th_Gen_iPod_Confirmed_with_16x9_Aspect_Ratio
- yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Its been changed to 5th gen now.
- monkeybutler, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3This isnt a slam but do people really watch full movies on handhelds? I expected to watch videos on my iPod but in the end the only videos i watch on the thing are video podcasts. Feature length movies just never felt practical to me (and it wasn't due to screen size).
- ravenmuffin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I'll see your 130" projector and raise you a 89.8' (that's feet) IMAX. Size matters, but is relative.
- chongli, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@ravenmuffin
You have a ~90 foot IMAX in your house? - meamog, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@ therealducky: Actually, the entire Intel switch was predicted correctly.
- tofagerl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The screen size, hard drive size, resolution, and the fact that the design would only be slightly tweaked... All of this was NOT given, and all the rumoursites had that too, months in advance.
- redfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've seen that picture several months ago... as well as the admission that it was Photochopped.
- pudquick, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Google turns up an article at ipodwizard.net that has a screenshot of the supposed 'slip up' while it was still on the site.
Honestly though? ... I've never heard of these guys.
.. Guess how much traffic these articles will get them. No digg from me, but I'll keep hoping. - blankartist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'd be stunned if another iPod was released *without* the 16:9 ratio. With movies being announced on iTunes, that's like saying the sun will rise tomorrow. Actually, expect WiFi too.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Apple was making the switch to Intel processors, so the MacBook was a HUGE given.
- kitejumping, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6http://www.engadget.com/2006/09/10/video-ipod-banner-for-september-12th/
adding to the rumors (although i really could care less about ipods)... - johnsee, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2How many stories you have submitted that have reached the front page :)
- r©ain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I sold my 4th Gen and never got around to buying the 5th gen, which is why I sold it to begin with... I mean, that was awhile back, right when 5th gens first came out.
So it's been awhile and I've been making do with my ROKR... which admitedly sucks, but atleast there's the 1000x song firmware hack ;)
I was going to buy an iPod next week. But now I'll wait till the 6G comes out.
I thought the screen size on the 5G was lame.
Shame on you Apple for not rethinking the concept when you added video/photos.
I mean, photo/videos on that eeeensie weeeensie lil screen???
GAAAAAAH!
Personally, I can't wait for the iPod 10G, with retinal jacks. - bryguy000, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5http://www.4flix.net/movies/index.php?cPath=65
Site still says "first EVER available for Apple''s new Video iPod in the new Widescreen 16:9 aspect ratio!"
I hope this is the new product on Tuesday! - crashingechelon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whatever the new iPod is, it better be worth holding out on a video iPod for this long.
- bolerobell, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hasn't it been confirmed that Apple is going to start selling movies on Tuesday? They would be dumb not to use that opportunity to introduce a new iPod that would be better equiped than the current one to watch 16x9 material.
And golldarnit, it's the iPod I've been waiting for so I can replace my aged Mini. - yensed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1In this case, they were.
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3what are you talking about?
- archivist, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1would you put those movies in your 'new' 'widescreen' ipod? lol
- kosh55, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I couldn't agree more. I would rather watch full length movies on a large high quality display.
- Lumiras, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The cached site says in reference to the movie Zulu:
"This product was added to our catalog on Thursday 01 December, 2005"
So, either this guy had outstanding foresight about this, or he was just making wild guesses a looong time ago
I'm not saying that it won't happen, but this isn't evidence by any means. Marked as inaccurate - antigravity, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I think the main reason to get the new video ipod is to view the video on a computer or tv and use the built in screen on occasion. If I buy a movie from Itunes and load it on the ipod. i.e. I can then take it to my brother's house and watch it there, or load all my workout videos and have them with me for my home gym or the gym, etc... I see this being a much larger market than music only. Movies will also work out well as they should work on upto 5 computers. Right now 4 family members all rent the same movies as we live 45 minute away from each other. Now one of us can buy it from itune's and transfer it over the internet to the others. I also see video prices going down as many people collect 1000's of them for video ipod and media center usage.
- KZeni, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There's places online that you can purchase DRM-free music. They are in competition with the iTMS. As long as it's a file that iTunes can play, they can't stop them. So video space should be no different.
- easy4lif, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1with all the rumors going around & all the wall street people that read the rumor sites too. Anything less then widescreen ipod, Movie store, or any other rumors will dissapoint almost everyone.
I think were starting to set the bar (& our hopes) too high. - bradym80, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1There is no record on wayback machine for this. I doubt its been around before last week.
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://4flix.net - iantwiddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0uuum...obviously this didn't happen, but think...they came out with nano 2nd gen...and lowered the price$50 for the new iPod5gen , NOW the red nano for the global foundation of AIDS in Africa...this widescreen will "probably" be released by Apple for the holidays. (lets just say i know an Apple iPod production technician) ;]
- DigeratiPrime, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6who cares what the aspect ratio is if its a cheesy ~2" lcd?
- pseudopop, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Google has it cached:
http://72.14.253.104/search?q=cache:2eii59exkQoJ:www.4flix.net/movies/index.php%3FcPath%3D65+ipod+16+site:http://4flix.net/&hl=en&gl=us&ct=clnk&cd=1&client=safari - danielryan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1ya think secret is *always* right, keep dreaming.
- williamw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Seriously people, its a site called 4flix.net, I wouldn't trust them at all. The idiot that runs it probably thinks that 5G iPods have 16 x 9 screens.I would understand if it said this on a credible site.
