- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -6/+45And we all feel sorry for the Americans, they get EDGE and we get 3G which is more than twice as fast...ROFLOL
I'm in the UK - wayback09, on 10/11/2007, -6/+31at&t would blow a fuse if Apple was to annouce a 3G iPhone 2 days after the first iPhone release. Digg me down, i'm highly skeptical on this.
- frem001, on 10/11/2007, -1/+24maybe they will just announce the carriers and the 3G part might be announced much later, so they don't upset American consumers. It has to be 3G for Europe and Asia otherwise they are wasting their time and money.
- jasonmacari, on 10/11/2007, -0/+21I hate American cell phones.
- aacidusX, on 10/11/2007, -1/+16Other countries actually deserve a 3G iPhone, at least the ones that have had it for 3 or more years. In the Americas 3G is still a baby...
- test5477, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12"Shenanigans, I'm calling Shenanigans."
- neondiet, on 10/11/2007, -1/+12
3G or HSDPA? In the UK Vodafone's 3G network is completely HSDPA now, and I think T-Mobile are pretty similar (don't know about them so much). I've had an HSDPA USB Modem from Vodafone for several months that I use with my MacBook Pro when I'm out and about working away from my home office. Vodafone call it 3G Broadband. Coverage is good and it regularly tops out at 175 KB/s (or 1.4 Mb/s if you prefer bits to bytes). I'm very pleased with it. - kenvsryu, on 10/11/2007, -12/+22So the 3g battery drain is not an issue if you're not a fat american?
- MrSarcasm, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10well then, not so bad I'm not in USA and can't buy an iPhone now, eh? ;)
- Flamekebab, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8I've never understood the dental hygiene stereotype. It doesn't hold true as far as I've seen, having lived here for the majority of the last two decades.
However, food and weather, have them, I don't want them! - cryofmankind, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I sense jealousy and a case of an inferiority complex.
- Carlsen, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I smell a fat american
- Myonosken, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Haha. Why the ***** would I want your food? I'm fine with our weather tbh- there are so many places in Europe that I can go to any, any time for whatever weather I want.
Plus, I've never had a filling or tooth pulled. I fail to see how I have bad dental hygiene. Anyway, bad teeth > fat folds. - jazh, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5That has nothing to do with an iphone. Stop spouting rubbish between europeans and US people. Americans who have visited and stayed in europe very rarely have bad things to say about it.
- fowleryo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It's the carriers that deserve the most hate. They're the ones that hold decent technology back in favor of higher profits and $3 ring tones.
- *Ica*, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5As far as the UK is concerned, I'd be suprised if the iPhone was Vodafone and T-Mobile exclusive for more than a few months. We're just not used to it, we expect to be able to choose our network, and choose what phone we want to use on it. Another thing to remember is that UK customers are not used to paying for phones, we get them free when we sign up and then most people usually get a free upgrade every year too. The iPhone needs to be heavilly subsidised here or it just won't sell. Finally it just HAS to be HSDPA or it will get poor reviews, its as simple as that.
- TheCount, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Well if Apple wants to piss of all it's American customers that have been building this hype, and doing all this marketing for them, for free, this would be the best way to do that.
- nicnic77, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Useless? It has many uses. Retard.
- locd32, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5The real question here is, why didn't Apple just make the US version 3G ready right out of the gate? Seems a little odd to me that they didn't make the phone 2.5/3G ready from the start...
- EarlOfLade, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4The cell phone service and prices here in the US is just horrible compared to Europe. I've used mobile phones since it was the size of a suitcase and I needed an antenna on the roof of my car.
The first issue was when I moved here and wanted a cell phone, the guy asked me how many minutes I wanted. Minutes???? I said, I have no clue, bill me at the end of the month for the minutes I use (that is what I have been used to for 20 years), but no, I had to select a set number of minutes and I didn't get credit or the minutes rolled over. At least this has changed. I was nothing but extortion. Not to mention the rate system sucked worse than a Hoover.
No sims... I can't take my sim and put it into another phone and be done, crap.
iPhone looks nice, I might buy one when it gets to the 3rd or 4th release, I don't like to pay for having the honor of doing beta testing. - einsteinbqat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4This would just be an annoncement. The iPhone is not set to be in Europe until the end of the year. Apple still have plenty of time to manufacture a 3G iPhone.
- noahhoward, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Does America even have a strong 3G network yet?
- Sarawanan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I'd expect the iPhone announcement for Canada to come out in a matter of weeks, because Rogers has confirmed that they will be the only carrier in Canada and would indicate a September/October release for Canadians.
*hint* make sure you subscribe to Apple Canada RSS through email or cellphone for July 1st *hint* - phoomp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Why would AT&T blow a fuse? Could AT&T sell a 3G iPhone? Do any European 3G service providers compete with AT&T for American customers?
A 3G European iPhone would mean nothing to AT&T, other than AT&T customers being annoyed that they don't get the same high cellular technology that is available to Asia and Europe. In other words, nothing new. - ScrumFritter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm just glad they've announced a provider, if it is true. 3G or not, I just want a ***** iPhone... if it took any longer for them to find a network, it'd have been delayed past Christmas.
- dethl, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2"As the story goes, Apple is set to announce a four-way deal: Vodafone and T-Mobile on the carrier front with Carphone Warehouse out in front as the MVNO."
So while Europe gets true freedom with their GSM phone the US gets to sit at AT&T with crap for data speeds and an insane bill every month. Way to alienate your own fans there. - matthiasgoodman, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Sure, I can pretend to sell you a phone too, if you like. Did you notice that you can't actually order it. They are just name dropping for now, as far as I can tell.
- Jaymo89, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Guy Kewnie was the guy that was supposed to be on the BBC when they screwed up.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guy_Goma
It's trivia but I guess it's funny for those that remember it. - reverzentative, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Eh? Coolio, another Canadian! I guess not getting the iPhone right away might actually turn out for the better, although it still doesn't make me feel any better right now. (I want an iPhone!!! :P)
- ScrumFritter, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3I really don't understand people complaining about hype like this. You don't want to hear Apple news? You can turn it off in your profile. It makes no sense for people to get pissed off at OTHER people for getting excited about something they couldn't care less about.
- TeamRocket, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I guess it would, except that because of the exchange rate you maybe paying more than 600 for it
- nistaani, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Doubt it - Mobiles are usually locked to the specific country the came from. IE you could only use a UK sim in a UK mobile. Unless you unlock it of course.
- rapiddemon, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Since I have T-Mobile in the US, and T-Mobile's network is international, is it possible that I can buy one of these European T-Mobile iPhones if they do come to fruition, pop my sim in it, and use it here in the US without any problems?
- richardiscool, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2The UK is in Europe, but it doesn't mean Europe = UK.
- mb309, on 12/31/2008, -0/+2They have used 3G as more of a generic term I think, the media will jump on it much like they did on "Web 2.0".
- skinfitz, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Considering that EDGE is rare in Europe (in the UK only Orange have EDGE), Apple are going to HAVE to make iPhone 3G if they want to sell it here as nobody is going to put up with EDGE speeds after being used to 3G. Jobs himself said 3G was coming to iPhone. Perhaps that's what the delay is - we are getting iPhone 2.0.
Just need to be able to put 3rd party apps on it now (or at the VERY least allow connection with a GPS) then I'll consider one. (What is the point of a handheld device that does maps without GPS..?) - Speed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1But does Rogers even have a 3G network? I'm not even sure if my EDGE capable Samsung d807x is browsing and downloading at EDGE speeds...
- Ireland, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Are you calling Shenanigans on your iPhone?
- astrotrain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh and nobody saw this coming? Apple most likely has a 20GB iPhone in their back pocket, they are just seeing how many people they can entice to a 4GB version. Then when they need more, "America... we have now an upgrade plan for your iPhone to the 10 GB model..." and they slowly introduce the sizes over a few months, getting people to pay that extra $100 per say for each upgrade.
- drakethegreat, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I was under the impression that Apple was wasting its time and money on this phone. I had the option to wait and buy one but I went with a different phone that my wallet thanked me for. No 3G is simply the killer because no one really needs 8 GBs of space with Safari when they can't download faster then a few KB a minute. So if Apple believes that 3G doesn't matter then they underestimate the saviness of Apple fans and what they want.
- DrAtheist, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1SJ said there wasn't 3G because of size and battery drain issues. So I really doubt there will be a 3G announcement on Monday, plus, what better way to stop your sales than to announce an upgrade so quickly?
I expect us Europeans will get a release date announcement and carrier information at the most. - Speed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's a no brainer that Rogers will be the only carrier. Aside from Fido (which they own), they are the only GSM carrier in Canada. And Fido gets the cheap or non-exclusive phones, while Rogers gets the decent phones (good thing too, since Fido's coverage sucks ass).
But I never thought of that, a Canada Day announcement. Only problem is, though, that Canada Day falls on Sunday this year, and nobody ever announces ***** on Sundays. - Speed, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The reason that North American cell phone providers and such suck is becuase very few people are savvy enough to complain. Do you think anybody knows what the hell EDGE is, never mind 3G? People don't bother learning how to make their own ring tones (which you can do with most cell phone with the right software), so they shell out $3.00 for a 30 second clip of a song (not even for most of the music ring tones).
- ElMoselYEE, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1***** you
- nreynolds, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I have a sim card....
- phoomp, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1nah, it'd cost that much more anyways, just for shipping it across the pond.
- Myonosken, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Oh haha, miss the point moron.
- EarlOfLade, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Easy...
It's something called double-sale. First release a inferior version of the product and let people fork over the dough. A year or so later, release a new and ramped up version (3G) and have people buy a new phone. Twice the sale, twice the profit. - test5477, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1no I'm calling Shenanigan's on whoever is putting this crap story out there.
- test5477, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1actually the rate plans are really good.
