- NoOneButMe, on 10/10/2007, -8/+156Because we all need 10+ text editors, 3 ftp clients, 5 task management programs, and 5+ program managing programs, _right_?
- greendblink182, on 10/10/2007, -5/+60No Adium?
- kevinmotel, on 10/10/2007, -9/+33luckily that was the 10% that adopted vista already...
- Citizenkan3, on 10/10/2007, -4/+24At least it has some stuff not on the millions of other top Mac Apps lists
- ExSlashdotter, on 10/10/2007, -2/+20No Handbrake? VLC? Omnigraffle? Textwranger?
- sudowrestler, on 10/10/2007, -4/+21I use TextMate. It only *thinks* it's 10+ editors.
- FluxHarmonic, on 10/10/2007, -3/+14Seriously.
No Adium, no Digg. Sorry. - stalefries, on 10/10/2007, -3/+13I don't blame 'em. Quicksilver is really awesome once you know what you can do with it.
- Hobofuzz, on 10/10/2007, -1/+10"4. Shoo Apps
does what the long forgotten (or so it seems) Spirited Away did. it hides inactive applications."
I can do that without a 3rd-party app. It's called Command+H. - matt9m5, on 10/10/2007, -0/+8http://softwarefor.org/
- gmprunner, on 10/10/2007, -2/+10Is there a single one of these lists that Quicksilver HASN'T been on?
- chix0r, on 10/10/2007, -3/+10hi.
I'm a poor college student.
These do me no good. - aaronm67, on 10/10/2007, -2/+9But it was so asleep! And it's tail was moving!
- ffleming, on 10/10/2007, -4/+11the list is crap, buried
- nathanchase, on 05/06/2009, -4/+10Inquisitor for Safari gets my vote
http://www.inquisitorx.com/
It's immensely helpful on a daily basis. - VeganBob, on 10/10/2007, -5/+11Somebody's jealous that they don't have a Mac.
- aaronm67, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6...IMing is pretty useful, seems like a perfectly good reason to use your computer.
- PAJK, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7Adium is my messenger, but I remain disappointed by the lack of video and audio chat support. For these things I have to use the native Yahoo! and MSN clients, which suck. (Okay, Yahoo! is fine.) I wait patiently. *sigh*
- PAJK, on 10/10/2007, -1/+6QS does my dishes. Yes, that's how good it is.
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+7A huge list of shareware text edit programs and 'organizers'. *yawn*. Im a full-time freelancer here and all I see is artery clogging plaque for my hard drive.
- MonkeyFarts, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6And why shouldn't a Mac user's opinion matter more than anybody else's? We're the people that use these apps on a daily basis. This is, after all, an article belonging in the "Apple" section.
- Madsen, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4Sorry for...I guess blogspamming...but I made a list some time ago for new macusers...just so they could get an idea of what they should get for their band new macs..."Entry Formerly Known As List Of Indispensable Mac OS X Software": http://madsenblog.dk/?page_id=11
- PAJK, on 10/10/2007, -1/+5I need an app to help me make lists. Anyone?
- Stelex, on 10/10/2007, -0/+4iList ?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -2/+6he should of put more freeware on the site
- Kelmon, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Agreed. If an application can be deemed to be essential then surely we don't need to mention another that does exactly the same damned thing. This isn't to say that the other applications are bad but it definitely makes the article more meaningless under its current title. If all these applications are going to get a mention then break the article down into categories and change the name.
- facereplacer, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3this article seems to make the front page once a month, and it always sucks
- foxhoundadmin, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3you're not THAT old fashioned, because classic macs didn't really have a command line, per se. ;)
- ForrestWhite, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3These aren't "absolutely essential" - these all seem to be products that have paid the blogger to advertise them on this site. How much would all of these apps cost if one were to buy them all? Correct me if I'm wrong - but these seem to have a ton of overlap and none of them are free.
Buried. - bobcrotch, on 10/10/2007, -0/+3The new beta of microsoft's mac RDP client is essential if you're doing anything with Windows systems. It allows you to open multiple RDP sessions, run full screen or use a fit to window option. The previous version didn't do any of these, and do run multiple sessions you had to terminal into a windows session and open from there. If you've ever done that before you would understand the latency issues.
- hilo4321, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4i dont believe for a second there are 35 essential apps for anything. 10, maybe, 35? thats just ridiculous
- maexus, on 10/10/2007, -2/+5Text Wrangler?
- forchilli, on 10/10/2007, -16/+19WOW. Another Top _____ mac apps list !?!?!?!?!?!?
- tidu, on 10/10/2007, -1/+4Hi, Grate.
- skyshock1, on 10/10/2007, -3/+6No Adium, Opera, VLC, or Firefox???
Buried. Lamest list ever. - Kyderdog, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Does anyone use any of that Crapfest?
- actorboy, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4True, but considering that Adium is on every other Top XX list, and this one has stuff that isn't on many lists, I find this one infinitely more useful. This list and any other pretty much sets you up.
- Crusty, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Pixel is buggy as hell on my Mac. It crashes before I can even set the prefs. It'll let me minimize palettes, but not open them back up. It'll randomly open the file open dialog window when I'm trying to select items in the palettes. It's not worth $35 at the moment.
- yanikleo, on 10/10/2007, -2/+4How about Graphic Converter? It's too bad they don't make a BBEdit Lite anymore too.
- TheNik, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3If someone could _explain_ what it does instead of coming up with some abstract definition of how powerful it is I may just be inclined to use it.
- joel8x, on 10/10/2007, -8/+10ZZZ.... These lists are killing us.
- BEDrocko, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Maybe... but did you notice most of the typically unmentioned crap is at least $15 for a program which has one function?
- inactive, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Can't what...?
Bind to Active Directory? Act as a PDC for a WinServe? Have IP over Firewire?
Have a zero config parallel computing platform? Run Solaris and Irix? - picsectionpleez, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2Please no more lists. Just please stop.
- Twee, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3This list ***** sucks. It's all a bunch of shareware. If someone were to actually buy all 35 programs on this list they'd be out more than $600. Screw that.
- msgyrd, on 10/10/2007, -0/+2You're not a Mac user because people make a bunch of similar lists and put them on the internet? You're a rational person I see.
Beyond that, this duplicate list thing is a problem with Digg and it's users, not Macs. - BEDrocko, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3It's called TextEdit, it doesn't cost you $24.95...
list creation is simple....
press option-8 to create a bullet point and return for a new entry... if you still need help making a list I suggest you look into elementary school - woojoo, on 10/10/2007, -1/+3Try OmniOutliner.
- zeeky, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2or perian...
- Armitage2k, on 10/10/2007, -1/+2Okay, time for my 36 Absolutely Essential Mac Apps... just gotta add Adium... yeah... now post... and wait for the Digg effect!
