//wordpress sucks - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+25How old is your iPod and what kind of battery life are you getting? Using mostly for music or video? Or are you just a troll?

- zip22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+12if by increase you really mean decrease, then yes.

- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+20I'm afraid there is no software fix for stupidity. Renting music is a bug not a feature.
- Hermitwise, on 10/12/2007, -4/+12I just got an ipod nano for Christmas and the battery life is outstanding, I often forget to charge it.
- computerdude33, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Is there even one app for the Zune?

- CrudE, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Umm...I see that, and yes, I read the article. I was merely asking for an opinion of which people prefer. Because I know there are other's out there that are not listed on the page...

The program that allows users to change the font, graphics and stringson on iPods.
Before people start going and asking on the forums, it is currently INCOMPATIBLE with the 2nd Gen Nano and the 5.5Gen Video.
The forums are at (the site links to the Wiki):

If you have any knowledge behind C/C++/ERM ASM and general electronics, and would be willing to help our developer decrypt these firmwares, then get in contact with me or "Kingstone" on the forums :

Thanks - SuperADAM, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5iSquint and iPodDisk aren't on the list? This is a travesty! Those are the two that I use the most!
- haggie, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9If you buy music from iTunes, you are just renting too. Just wait until the DRM breaks on those tracks...
- lefolly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yes, its called tunebite.
http://www.tunebite.de/ - arcva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I like anapod explorer a lot. You guys should check it out. It's not free but does have a trial version so you can check it out. Works with ALL ipods I believe. It basically integrates your ipod with windows and let's you drag and drop transfer etc. It's the only piece of software I've ever actually payed for, lol...........Yarrrrrrrr
- MackPrime, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4stereo cable (headphone cable) running to auxiliary input is an epic win for car audio.
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5@zip22
No, no... I experience better battery life with Rockbox, actually.
But I guess benchmarks don't lie. Hmm. Oh whatever. I stand corrected! - nadnerb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3actually, the line out feature of the iPod produces better sound when plugging into an amp.
- blakholephysics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@firepowered
funny thing is, I own the same thing and I can't. I call bs. - wilsgrant, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4When will people stop calling iPods "Ipods"?
- therippa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Plug: I wrote an app that loads all of the recipes from Good Eats onto your iPod for reference at the supermarket
http://therippa.blogspot.com/2006/12/good-eats-for-ipod.html - Limp_Trizkit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ffmpeg works wonders under any OS. You can always play around a bit with the settings, and I'm debating porting the Windows app I wrote (www.h26easy.org) to Linux using Gambas. Yeah, it's got ffmpeg as a backend...but it gets the job done, right?
Also, for Mac users I'd recommend the software I borrowed UI ideas from - iSquint (www.isquint.org). - zip22, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2have you tested it? i'm sure your results would be valued at that link.
- zip22, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4i see, your ipod cares about drm, but you don't. so your ipod posted under your name and said that you want the ipod to support wma drm?
- Rkstar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2There are two big ones missing from that list -
1) iPodDisk to mount your ipod music on your desktop for easy access to the songs.
2) iSquint, which other than DVDs, is better than Handbrake for converting movies to iPod format... especially FLV's from youtube etc. - proghead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2dude... sharepod is the greatest thing on god's green earth.... FINALLY!!!!
- iching, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Very nice list with links for iPod users but I wish that the site was much clearer on which programs were compatible with which operating system be it apple, windows or linux, for example the iDirectionz, even linking to their site, didn't tell you it is only compatible with windows. Does anyone know of a similar program like this for apple?
- dagamer34, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2No digg for hosting a site on a crummy webserver. If webmasters want digg traffic, they better pay for a better package or get a more reliable host! Geez, I'm tired of seeing "Page not found" because someone wants to host a site on what seems to be their own home internet connection!!
- Mitijea, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Cucusoft has a really nice program. Not free, but works very well. (They have a suite now that does whole DVDs as well as single files (most any kind, though not .flv), but you can still buy either program individually.)
- 13thfloor, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Limp Trizkit Please port that for Linux. The more options we have, the better.
I use "ImTOO DVD to iPod Converter 4" with Wine in Linux and it works. It's not "free," and I don't advocate piracy, but if you want something badly enough, there is always a way to get it... - ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is all great except there is no solution for a major issue:
Is there ANY programs to auto-fill podcasts from iTunes? or any other alternatives? I would think that iTunes would've been able to do that but apparently not. Is it possible to auto-fill/sync podcasts upon docking as well?
Even my iRiver autofills podcasts from iTunes thanks to iTunes Agent but any iPod cannot because it isn't compatible with iTunes Agent. Any solutions? - monkeyman08854, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Videora Ipod Converter is a very simple, easy to use program. I use it in conjunction with DVD Decrypter. That being said It helps to have a bit of a FAQ.
http://www.videora.com/en-us/Converter/guides.html
This was very helpful when i got started on the whole video iPod deal.
Does anyone know the reliability of the skinning software? I don't really want to end up with an expensive paperweight. - ...---..., on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's funny how much people complain about iPod battery life. I have owned 3 iPods and my kids have all had 4g iPods and 2g nanos. No battery problems... Everyone I personally know that owns an iPod doesn't have a battery problem. Now, that said - ANY rechargeable battery will lose it's charge time over the duration of it's life depending on your charging habits. If you continuously recharge it when the battery is mostly charged, without ever letting the battery drain all the way - you will definitely decrease the lifespan of the battery. Rechargeable batteries just do this - laptop and cell phone batteries are notorious for this very same thing.
Now, I'm sure that there are exceptions out there - cases where for no good reason the battery doesn't last a long time - but by and large I'm willing to bet that bad battery performance can be blamed on charging habits. And if it happened within the first year of use - have it replace for free.
Also, comparing iPods to other items that use rechargeable batteries is not exactly fair - because (at least in my case) my iPod is used a lot every day - countless hours of use and charging cycles. My other items like laptop and cell phone batteries don't nearly have the amount of usage that my iPod gets - but those batteries don't really last well more than a year or 2 - my iPod outpaces all of them.
One last point... if your battery dies in your cordless phone at home after 2 years, are you going to freak out about it & spend so much time bashing the manufacturer on every forum & blog you can find. NO! You'll go to the store and for a few bucks you'll replace the freakin' battery - problem solved. Do the same with your iPod - tey are like $25 for a replacement battery that's better than the original - big deal. Damn - most computers after 2 years of high use you can expect to have something fail and have some kind of maintenance cost associated. $12.50 a year? Not bad in my book.
Too many whiners. - StatusQuoRules, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1iTunes is also the best intel app to manage your ipod, and play music off of it directly
- TheKingInYellow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1the list forgot "ephPod". it's like senuti but for windows.
EPHPOD - metalhead3767, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amen to that!
- Hindu_Wardrobe, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3You are in the wrong place to mention things competing with Apple products in a slightly positive way. Trust me.
- u8myfoood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1all i need is gasoline, and a lighter... it'll work like it should after that!
- Limp_Trizkit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Isn't that how that other dude fixed his iBook laptop? ;) http://www.digg.com/apple/Get_your_iBook_working_again_with_fire
- arcva, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@digitallysick: Amarok should work I would say. I'm sure it's not the *best* but it's certainly one of my favorites when I'm using linux.
- joevill, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Very nice!
- fantasticFlan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Yeah, how about a whole different article? Why didn't someone post that instead? I'm sorry, that's just inane.
- rosswf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@Hiker:
Yeah i think you are right. It may only be the 80GB version that doesnt work, or the latest firmware updates. - thewhitefedora, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1One of the best iPod tools ever is missing, Rockbox
- bitcloud, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2when apple stops inventing their own words with entirely new grammatical rules?
ipod, IPOD, iPod, iPoD, Ipod are all acceptable invented marketting words - jman8888, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I only charged my video a few days ago and use it a ton. Am i missing something?
- cparsons, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Reading stories submitted to Digg is becoming a pain in the ass. I don't even want to count the number of times I've gotten "Cannot find server"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whats the best PPC app to manage your ipod, and play music off of it directly?
- gzenker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Something I am using is called AutoPilot. I own a tivo and this converts any tv show/movie that you have on your tivo, strips out the commercials and puts it into iPod format. Actually, it can put it on your cell phone or a psp and more. It is very versatile. Very sweet tool, I've done a lot with it since I got my iPod. It will also put a firefox extension on your machine and allow you to convert google or youtube clips into iPod format as well....I think it is the BEST!!
