- divinediva, on 01/28/2009, -0/+39It is good to see Billy and Stevey happy working together :)
- Mjeacoma, on 01/28/2009, -0/+34This just blew up my monitor....
- PrometheusTitan, on 01/28/2009, -0/+21Also worth noting that one of the other guys on stage, Mitch Kapor, not only founded Lotus, but also co-founded the EFF and has been chair of the Mozilla Foundation since its inception:

- cutchyacokov, on 01/28/2009, -4/+18When this video was recorded Bill Gates was pretending to be interested in developing software for the Mac so that Steve Jobs would trust him enough to give him a chance to reverse engineer the revolutionary software on the Mac (which was actually developed by Xerox, not Apple but that's another story). The "cordial and friendly" nature you are seeing from Bill here was a complete con job. Steve fell for it, hook line and sinker. He gave Bill 3 prototype Macs before the official release for "development" purposes. Microsoft was then able to reverse engineer the software on them and were able to create Windows 2.x and 3.x with what they learned. If you think Steve was "cordial" after he learned what Bill was up to, think again. He was furious over the con Bill pulled, wouldn't you be?
- TnTBass, on 01/28/2009, -0/+14Bill was great at sucking up to Steve. Talk about lulling your enemy into a false sense of security.
- Parastie, on 01/28/2009, -0/+14Bill Gates is thinking,
"Oh yes, Macintosh will be the new standard....muahahahahah" - warbrain, on 01/28/2009, -1/+13I've always believed that the relationship between Gates and Jobs was cordial and friendly. They liked to pick at each other, tease each other, and attempt to force the other into submission. Now that Ballmer is in charge...it's SMASH SMASH SMASH.
- had3l, on 01/28/2009, -0/+11And the other guy was forgotten by history and doesn't even have his own Wikipedia page.
- macfanboi, on 01/28/2009, -0/+10Steve Jobs didn't pick himself?!?!!!

Steve: *beams* - i23Photography, on 02/12/2009, -1/+9You're pretty good at navigating digg without looking at it
- aforsberg, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7When I first read that I thought you were rooting for manatee #3
- freesf, on 01/28/2009, -0/+7I've heard that he is actually an *****
- pdt162004, on 01/28/2009, -1/+7Man, Steve Jobs was foxy.
- JosefH, on 01/28/2009, -0/+5That was amazing! Haha, I am just wondering if it i really real. Bill Gates and Steve Jobs have been, despite popular belief, working together for a long time. Bill made Windows, not PC's, and he had no problem whatsoever with Macs, especially now since they can run Windows, because it just gets him more revenue. Now we have Steve Ballmer, and I am only wondering how he will screw everything up.
- BossKey, on 01/28/2009, -0/+5Few people know that Excel, Word*, and PowerPoint were made for the Mac before they appeared in Windows.
*Word was on MS-DOS before the Mac though - DrivingVertigo, on 01/28/2009, -1/+6I wonder how the dates go, and who Steve Jobs "Made Whoopie" with.
- punkcat, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4yet here we are
- jason4188, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4I think it is safe to say number 3 won.

If you can do a better job of summarising PoSV on the spot (which wasn't exactly what I was try to do), let's hear it. Yes what I said was highly condensed and oversimplified but I was just trying to point out that Bill Gates and Steve Jobs had a fairly rocky relationship, I certainly wouldn't have called it friendly or cordial. - OhSnapVince, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4Apple's largest 3rd party software supplier is Microsoft.
Microsoft's largest 3rd party software supplier is Apple.
26 years later, no less. - ZeeZee2k, on 01/28/2009, -0/+4He wants to date them all, Jobs is such a player!
- scratend0788, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3although i wouldent call them cute they do all look like babys.
i think its the nerd thing, despide being bulldogs in buisness and ridiculously ritch, they still look like maladjusted, insecure, scrawny, disgruntled teenagers. - inactive, on 01/28/2009, -0/+31:45 when bill says he'd been using the mac for about two years..if steve had only known just how bill was using that mac...
- LeviTheSmith, on 01/28/2009, -1/+4Because weather you like it or not Apple is an influential software/hardware vendor.
- exspasticcomics, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Microsoft expecting to get 1/2 their revenues from the mac... LOL...
..they want it all Steve... they want it ALL...
& everybody else's revenue for that matter...lol - Enchorito, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Four way! GIGGITY!
- Jeremyz0r, on 01/28/2009, -0/+3Wrong Steve.
- cstegner, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2#3 ... One of the Richest people on the planet. Who would of thought?
- jrussmlr, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2My favorite things on digg are unimportant or irrelevant.
- LayZ, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2I have a man crush on Steve circa 1983 - what a guy.
- bryantee, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2People are always so much cooler in their youth.
- ennwarenn, on 01/29/2009, -0/+2Dugg for Herb Alpert and the Tiajuana Brass.
- BossKey, on 01/29/2009, -0/+2I only said it because the only thing keeping me from saying all 3 of those critical Microsoft apps were Mac-first was Word's previous existence on MS-DOS. I figured if I didn't include that some Digger would say "Yeah, but Word wasn't Mac first..."
- digitalpencil, on 01/28/2009, -0/+2the same reason Microsoft and Linux/Unix made it into that list.. because all three are fairly big subjects on digg.
- mrBitch, on 01/29/2009, -0/+2RE: " Few people know that Excel, Word*, and PowerPoint were made for the Mac before they appeared in Windows.
*Word was on MS-DOS before the Mac though "
You're absolutely correct, but I don't understand why you needed to mention that Word was on DOS before it got to the Mac?
I mean DOS Word was pretty average, and MS Word only REALLY became a giant in software sales AFTER Word was given a GUI make-over. - WebmastuhB, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1You know I was thinking the same thing... This is yet another example I have seen from historical footage.
But in all fairness, its likely Bill wasn't thinking malicious thoughts when he sat on that stool and said "half of all revenue will come from Mac sales." He probably was not lying or thinking "I'm gonna screw these guys" while smiling to Steve.
He just set his sights on selling lots, and lots of software. Some tactics were strong-handed, but his goal was probably sales, not screwing Apple. - WebmastuhB, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1Funny. I've no idea (and I tend to know this sort of crap.)
I had to look him up. http://people.forbes.com/profile/fred-m-gibbons/54 ... - gibson85, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1well, i would eat you really fast before i got flacid
(pee tear griffin) - Midnitte, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1All the more reason to treat people who fit that description with kindness, you never know who your boss will be in the future...
- motters, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1Ah, happy days...
- e68895f, on 01/28/2009, -1/+2Well sometimes you just need to admit that the relationship will not last..
- inactive, on 02/25/2009, -2/+3lol okay, but may i ask why it was necessary for Apple to make its way into that list in the first place?
- Philbert, on 01/28/2009, -0/+1Is that this manatee?
