Quicksilver
http://quicksilver.blacktree.com/ - felis, on 10/12/2007, -7/+34Don't you have an OS to patch?
- eliah, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23@grammarpolice: Modded up because that desktops site is awesome, but you spelled "prefs" wrong and you're missing a comma in your last line. Also you forgot a space after "3.", but that's more style than grammar.
Usually I wouldn't care, but if you're going to go around calling yourself "grammarpolice", you should be more careful. - chaos421, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10well they certainly need a better website, because with only that information i wouldn't download it.

at least there is a little more info here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quicksilver_(software) - AngryBoy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Why does learning keyboard shortcuts qualify a way to "trick out your Mac?"
- Gottschalk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Says more about the users than anything.
- pcharles23, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6you could buy a mac. and run your ***** os in a window with paraelles. The Big Dog unix will virtualize your sleazy ass.
- lickmygiggle, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4having the same issues on a Win XP box.
(with firefox 2.0) - lundie, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Is anyone else having issues with clicking on the links contained in this site, using firefox? We've tried on multiple macs, and the browser freezes each time we click on a link. weird...
- jonpappas, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I'm a new MacBook user (switched from PC)... and this is exactly what I was looking for...
- Kugo, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Apple's shortcut list is good but this one is better and seems to be more complete. Also it's a lot easier to read.

As for Undercover - no. That app was found out long ago. It's so easy to hack it's not funny. Also, any hacker can break into their database of Macs and steal your private info. No thank you!

Haxies? Read what BBEdit's Rich Siegel and Apple support engineers have to say about that.

And then decide if you're 'tricking' your Mac or 'f*cking' yourself. - rockchops, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3For some reason, clicking on any link on the applegazette article crashes my firefox. Kind of ironic considering I'm using Mac OS 10.3 ....
- grammarpolice, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5@ Eliah
You made my day. You are right, I have no excuses. Today has been a sloppy day.
However, if you are like me and you like tweaking, then here are more Mac OS Ten customizations. * 3 and 4 are not customizations but I came across them when looking for customizations. Plus they are very handy.
1. Virtue Desktops - Do you like more than one desktop? Well now you can have four of them! Just like in Linux.
http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/16530
2. DeskShade - Is your desktop full of clutter? Well then forget about it and cover it up! Its just like sweeping the floor.
http://macrabbit.com/deskshade/
*3. Smart Reporter - SMARTReporter is an application that can warn you of ATA hard-drive failures before they actually happen. MenuApp.
http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/23232
*4. CoconutBattery- Check the status of your battery!
http://www.coconut-flavour.com/coconutbattery/ - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11. Insert Ubuntu Desktop installer CD
2. Reboot - meatmcguffin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Saft is awesome, but i mainly use it to restore my open windows when i quit safari or safari crashes
I think the latest update was a little glitchy though, does anyone else get an error/crash when you click digg's comment thumbs up or thumbs down buttons? - sruffelman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I just bought Saft today and I am finding it terribly useful. One of the chief reasons I did not like Safari was because of the brushed metal look. Saft can make Safari look as good in OS X as Camino or Firefox with a good theme. It's great! The full screen browse mode is nice too, for when all I want to do is read digg.
- Millhouse389, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Freezes every time.... Firefox/XP
- ThePottsDome, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Ya, go ahead pimp it out, then watch your mac do the burger dance, when the next mac os update comes rolling down the chute.
- sw0rdfish, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3yup... not sure why
- sparkrainfir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1merlin mann of 43folders.com has amazing tips.
http://www.43folders.com/category/quicksilver/ - lasombragh, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Macdesktops? Oy. I'd rather rub my eyes with a cheese grater.
Just because someone can install and run Photoshop doesn't mean they should be using it. Christ...
I'll stick with interfacelift.com for desktop backgrounds any day. - sdelmege, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anywhere I can find tips on how to use Quicksilver?
- nnonix, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3#11 - Format and install Ubuntu, or anything else.
- JPresEFnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0A script is timing out. Try Camino, it warns you and give you the chance to screw the script and continue on.
Safari seems to just ignore the timeout on it's own. - central183, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3By far the most useful addition to OS X I've found is "SAFT".
http://haoli.dnsalias.com/
It's a plug in for Safari that lets you block or freeze animation. There are dozens more useful features like "Max Screen", "Add Bookmarks Here", and "Sort Bookmarks".
What's really sweet is that I programmed the key combination to freeze animation into my mouse. Any annoying as hell web page can be have it's ads frozen with one click. Then when you go to someplace useful like YouTube, you can unfreeze animation. - Hosalabad, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Wait, is this just another thinly veiled Orbicule advertisement?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0As I sit her in the Cafe-using my powerbook and the wi-fi- I sip on my latte and think to myself....man I sure have become a pussy!
- MacsBaine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Don't know but glad they listed it. That's been down low on my todo list for a while. Now, done! Wish all tasks were that easy.
- rhesuspieces00, on 10/12/2007, -7/+7agreed. quicksilver alone is reason to switch to Mac.
- KyleMistry, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Quicksilver is a godsend, even if you use it at just a basic level. My dock used to be crammed with applications, Quicksilver took out over 2/3 of them. Best Application Launcher for the Mac ever.
Oh, and it makes one damn handy iTunes controller. - Fairly, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Oh that's funny.
- grammarpolice, on 10/12/2007, -9/+81. versiontracker

I have more but I have to go noobs. - Apollocontrol, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I put some good videos up here http://www.uberchannel.com/channel/939 one of which is the coolest way I've seen to pimp your Mac
- ogstar69, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0Do you think an app like Quicksilver will be integrated in Apples next OS upgrade?
http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9002703 - falloutsyndrome, on 10/12/2007, -9/+7"I don't think I'm using the mac, so much as I am just there sharing the mac experience, I feel like I have to trick the mac into doing what it is I really want it to do."
- blakespot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3How about adding dual external status LCDs to pimp it out??

writeup: http://www.bytecellar.com/archives/000081.php (w/ vid) - LtCarter47, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2There are a few good links in there, the rest is nothing mind blowing though. My favorite is Pimp My Safari. I'll be spending some time there later today seeing what I can use.
- brainScan, on 10/12/2007, -13/+10Agreed!!! I only stumbled upon QuickSilver recently, but I'm lost without it!
- grammarpolice, on 10/12/2007, -16/+13@mikefitz2
When was the last time you got hit on by a hot chick at a coffey store because she liked your 17" Powerbook?! Well that happened to me 2 times last week. That ***** never happens with a brick HP laptop my friend. I love my mac, it gets me ass. - JonnyTrombone, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4I'm down with OS X, but most of the programs on the first website listed are crap. Half of the pay-for programs on the list are built into the OS. (Like a $5 program to change your screen saver! Or $20 to put dashboard items on the desktop!)
- mesoed, on 10/12/2007, -8/+5"...and I did everything you saw here.... on a Macintosh."
... Classic! - ksuburke, on 10/12/2007, -6/+2I remember a very old MacAddict issue where the editors stuffed the guts of a new mac into an old "Pizza Box" mac, then they added flames, wheels, and a PC fan that looked like a supercharger.
- dpcamp, on 10/12/2007, -10/+5i thought this was going to be a case mod article... wack.
- chaos421, on 10/12/2007, -6/+1great post! lots of these things are well known, but many are not. great to have them compiled in one place.
check out: http://pimpmycamino.com/ - ogstar69, on 10/12/2007, -7/+2Smooth Operater.
- pcharles23, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1no... What are you talking about... Are you on drugs?
Drunk? Nothing of what you are saying makes any sense!
Dashboard Widgets belong in dashboard... This is not windows
you do not have to ***** with everything. Just use your mac...
The included applications Mac's come with are amazing.
Leaves windows users in the cesspool where they belong. - goatswii, on 10/12/2007, -13/+3#11 - Trade up to a Tandy box with a 6086 processor
- macfanboi, on 10/12/2007, -16/+5Here's how you trick out your Mac.
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsvista/businesses/default.mspx - Mahstah, on 10/12/2007, -15/+3Isn't "pimping out a mac" the same thing as pimping out an '88 Ford Escort with bungie cords holding it together? Wow, chrome trim and bubbly tint!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -35/+10awww macs are cute, just like their naive and easily deceived owners!
