Whitman: "we have to do both. For the good of the American people, for the good of the American economy, we must do both." (Saying that while you don't strictly speaking have to cut spending in order to cut taxes, as proven by Bush, you really should).
McCain: "spending restraint has got to be a part of any economic package if you’re going to cut taxes"
Can someone tell me how this is a "flip flop"? McCain said that you need spending restraint, and Whitman said that (while there's no compulsion to cut spending) you need to cut spending in order to be responsible while cutting taxes. The only way the headline is accurate is if you truncate what Whitman actually said down to just a one-word answer. I don't like McCain, but this kind of article is just silly
