Where Obama Stands: On Moral Issues

my.barackobama.com — I am a concerned Catholic in the community who would like clarification on some of Mr. Obama stands on certain moral issues and a more clear definition why he has his stance on these issues. The issues I would like to address have been greatly covered in the presidential debates so far however I do not think that explanation has been given for many of Mr. Obama ’s stances. It is my hopes that I could receive some more information on Mr. Obama’s position on three topics of moral importance. First I wish to be further informed on his stance towards abortion seeing that abortion is unethical according to the Catholic Church. Next is the issue of the death penalty, it has come to my knowledge that Mr. Obama approves of the death penalty in certain situations even though it too has been deemed unethical by the Catholic Church. The final issue I wish to address is Americans education and the voucher system. I am a firm believer that everyone deserves a good education and that the voucher system does a great job to give everyone the chance for a better education. In conclusion I am hoping that further information be given on the three moral issues I have described above. Thank you for your time.

  • standrewyouth, on 02/07/2008, -0/+0The Catholic Church does not teach that the death penalty is unethical. You can find what she teaches in the Catechism of the Catholic Church. The Church teaches that the death penalty is a licit means of justice and protection of society from violent offenders. However, the last pope, JPII added the caveat that in our modern world with systems of incarceration that can protect society and offer retributive justice, applying the morally acceptable death penalty would not respect the dignity of human life as much as lifetime incarceration.

    You might want to look up other moral issues that the Church says are intrinsically evil like embryonic research, cloning humans, and euthanasia. I would like to know where Mr. Obama stands on these issues.
