Ron Paul Planning Shadow Convention for Liberty
blog.washingtonpost.com — Rep. Ron Paul (R-Texas) may have ended his presidential campaign, but the libertarian gadfly isn't exactly going quietly into the good night. Paul is not only planning a book event during the Republican National Convention in September - he's planning a one-day shadow convention that could well be the wildest party of the entire week.

- oldbookguy, on 07/08/2008, -4/+20This promises to be the BE THERE event on Saturday!
- Noods, on 07/08/2008, -4/+17I'll be there.
- brad3378, on 07/08/2008, -4/+11ditto
- muckemuck, on 07/08/2008, -4/+22What a crappy excuse for an article though. It's an attempt to smear the Libertarians and Paul supporters as just a bunch of pot smokers just because they want to end the failed "war on drugs" and make legalizing medical marijuana a state level issue.
- sassey, on 07/08/2008, -4/+12I agree with you about the article, in that it downplays the actual purpose for the shadow convention by bashing all who plan on attending. Apparantely, the PTB and neocons still look at us as a threat at this stage of the game. In reality-- we are!
- theantirobot, on 07/08/2008, -2/+8I was angry I automatically dug it before reading the article. Thank goodness I can come to digg here and vote up your comments!
As a side note, is anyone else concerned that the recommendation engine on digg could be used very effectively by to hinder our information flow? It seems it could easily identify and flag certain stories or users. I hear many comments about digg censoring their stories. There's also that clip where Alex said he attended bohemian grove.
One more side note, digg's comment system sucks. Reddit's is way better!- TheEngineer2008, on 07/08/2008, -0/+11Yeah, the pot stuff was too much. The MSM always tries to brand us as being pro-drug when we're really pro-liberty. They can't separate wanting to eliminate laws with advocacy for the activity being decriminalized. Many statists actually assume we all smoke weed! After all, why else would we want to decriminalize it?!?!? :-( If they would really report on the failures of the so-called War on Drugs (really the War on Liberty), they might understand why some people could advocate an end to it. And, to any statists reading, I don't partake in weed. In fact, I rarely drink a beer these days, but I do advocate taking the government out of this.
That being said, I submitted the article because it had some information worth sharing, and to get it in before some anti-Paul guy submitted it with an anti-Paul spin (a preventive digg). - sassey, on 07/08/2008, -0/+7Well put, Engineer2008, and glad you shared this article and these comments. Preventative diggs are great! ;) Whether any one of us partakes in weed or any such vices-- that shouldn't be the issue. (although I, too, choose not to) Our civil liberties mean our freedom, and God help us all if those are taken from us! We need them to live.....

- sixsixsixtimer, on 07/08/2008, -29/+3Why are there still Ron Paul spammers on Digg? Give it up and go back to your concerned white citizens councils. Buried.
- Tenbatsu404, on 07/09/2008, -2/+3The only racist around here is you.
- mshtml, on 07/08/2008, -4/+19Dugg for Paul even though the article is written in the usual establishment fashion, taking shots at the campaign.
- GuacamoleSan, on 07/08/2008, -3/+16"When Ron Paul calls and asks you to emcee you don't say no" Tucker Carlson is awesome.
This article needs to stop with the "pot" jokes its not about pot its about small government. - plimpton777, on 07/08/2008, -4/+18"Gadfly"? More like libertarian ICON. More like, lightning rod for LIBERTY.
- XanderDee, on 07/08/2008, -2/+11The article was written to turn people off. It's saying the convention will be one big hot box. How rude.
- Pssdoff, on 07/09/2008, -2/+2What a terrible article written by some hack calling herself "The Sleuth."
"of course, Barack Obama has been on the paperback bestseller list since the dawn of time"
"The Paul campaign ... is on pins and needles (and roach clips)"
This bile laden 'article' doesn't even belong on a My Space page. - grides33, on 07/09/2008, -2/+1this saturday july 12 is the revolution march
