- sandyda, on 10/05/2008, -10/+5This is a game changer. See how the PR smear changed the game of the elections in 2004 for Kerry. Unless there is a sharp and strong backlash from Obama campaign this is going to change the trend
- SheilaNoya, on 10/05/2008, -4/+9I disagree 100%
This story has already been debunked a zillion times and will only cause McCain & Palin to lose even more credibility for repeating a known lie.
The "fear & smear" tactics used by the Republicans in the 2006 elections backfired and they lost control of the House and the Senate. People are fed up with being lied to.
Voters want to hear about the issues now, especially in this time of crisis. If McCain wants to spend the next 30 days in the gutter, then he'll only end up smelling like sewage. - TigerStar337, on 10/05/2008, -5/+2People already see McCain and Palin as LIARS.
Everyone knows Barack was 8 years old when Ayers was a terrorist.
- SheilaNoya, on 10/05/2008, -4/+9I disagree 100%

- jperson, on 10/05/2008, -2/+4What drives me nuts is that we're all supposed to be citizens, here. We're all supposed to be looking out for each other. It feels weird being here and having these discussions as if being more divisive somehow helps America.
- ApMasterSite, on 10/05/2008, -21/+6Obama has always had links with Terrorists and controversial America haters. .. Bill Ayers is just one of them. Rev. Wright is another America hater.
There is also those guys of his staff that were "dismissed" after "alleged" links to Islamic Terrorism.
This is just the tip of the iceberg. The Media is ignoring his step brother and also his father's political involvement with Barack Hussein Obama in Kenya..- GlassAgate, on 10/05/2008, -2/+5Citations, please. You made the claim, so you are responsible

- SheilaNoya, on 10/05/2008, -4/+15It's clear now. The McCain campaign has nothing to offer except the same old crap the Bush gave us... fear & smear.
This isn't 2004. We're in a crisis and people are looking for solutions now, not angry old men and folksy hockey moms who keep repeating the same old lies they've already used in the past. McCain has nothing to offer and his panic is showing. - cnguyen, on 10/05/2008, -3/+16If the Right Wing Ignoramuses want to play with the guilt by association card, then Obama/Biden need to call McCain out on the Keating 5 scandal. A TRUE scandal that McCain was actually involved in--charges were dropped but he demonstrated extensively poor judgment in acquaintances--case in point. Keating 5 - Savings and Loan Scandal much? Especially given the specific link to the current economic crisis, if Biden were to spew/smear McCain with the Keating 5 scandal the way Palin did to Obama re: Ayers--McCain might as well pull out his campaign efforts out of the remaining 49 states instead of just Michigan.
- jperson, on 10/05/2008, -2/+4You know it's coming.

That this particular smear is so pathetic is apparent anyone with sense - Obama was 8 years old when the weathermen were active, and Ayes has paid his debt to society. That Ayers has a past criminal history and happens to work for the same charity is irrelevant - does this make EVERYONE that works at the charity terrorists?
How about we use exactly the same argument she is putting to us against her: try this on for size -
I wonder how many people at Palin's Church have a criminal history, more than a few I bet! If one of her fellow parishioners has a history of selling pot (there is an excellent chance there are several) does that mean she hangs around with DRUG dealers???
See how easy this game is. The Democrats need to slam her down hard for this cheap and dirty accusation. - Riven213, on 10/05/2008, -3/+12this has to be the most pathetic thing she has ever said. DIGG IT.
AMERICANS, PLEASE DON'T LET HER IN THE OFFICE - zombies187, on 10/05/2008, -3/+7People who destroy property, but don't target humans are vandals not terrorists.
- GlassAgate, on 10/05/2008, -2/+9Does anyone know more about this "Bill Ayers"?
What did he bomb? Was anybody injured? Was
anybody killed? From what little that I know about
US society, from that era, there was strong opposition
to that war. Was Bill Ayers just doing it to make a point?
She shouldn't have used the word "terrorist". It is too harsh.
People hear it and they think of the Twin Towers, Radical
Islam, Osama Bin Laden. Why couldn't she pick a more
appropriate word?- brightlight4, on 10/05/2008, -0/+5The word Terrorist was chosen for exactly that purpose to make people think of Twin Towers, Radican Islam, Bin Laden and the rest, what better word for her to chose when people in general are not informed and take her at face value without investigating, or even thinking!!!
- wherearemymeds, on 10/05/2008, -1/+2She couldn't pick a more appropriate word because she's conducting a false smear campaign. The word 'terrorist' gets far more headlines and fear and anger built, than saying
"Obama didn't even live in Chicago then, and was 8 years old at the time of Ayers' protests and attempts at violence.
Most of Ayers' anger and by far, the biggest portion of anger in that era was in response to the Vietnam War, the lies and manipulations by our government to hide what they were doing. They said we were winning, that if America left, it would be surrender, that our soldiers WEREN"T falling apart by the thousands. Also, we had a national draft back in the sixties.
Also, the reason the LBJ refused to run for a second term was because Walter Cronchite became essentially, the first newsman to actually report the truth of the state of the war--and THAT truth was in 100% conflict with what the administration was saying.
Also, Kent State, a site of peaceful protest, had students shot down by riot police even though they were not rioting. There were massive protests going on all over the country---Sadly, the only thing that made people in power pay attention was violence.
Since then, Ayers has matured, evolved and chosen to change bad policies by becoming involved from inside politics and has become a highly respected and respectable person by any standards. And it was AFTER he'd reached this level of growth, that he and Obama came into contact.

- GlassAgate, on 10/05/2008, -3/+5By "making a point" I meant "making a political statement
against the war."- wherearemymeds, on 10/05/2008, -1/+1Yes, you're right.
Sorry if I was soapboxing. It's just that so many people are just assuming that Palin's not doing anything wrong, or, more thankfully,
I'm also seeing a lot of questions about who exactly, Ayers was.
In part, to Ayers and others like him, people don't spit on soldiers coming back from war like they did iduring the Vietnam era. Everyone blamed the soldiers, not the government. And eventually, the govt. did finally realize that they damn well better listen.
- wherearemymeds, on 10/05/2008, -1/+1Yes, you're right.
- GlassAgate, on 10/05/2008, -3/+8After reading more about him, I was correct in saying that
it was wrong to use the word "terrorist". It is too harsh.
Was what he did right? That's had to say. Was it right for
the government, of the time, to go into Vietnam, spending
US lives in a conflict that we had nothing to do with?
Palin had better be preparing an apology.
She had better also learn a thing or two about
history and journalism ethics. And basic English
grammar. First of all, the person wasn't a terrorist.
Second of all, there is only one person. Even if he
was a terrorist, which he wasn't, there was only
one person in question. Use the singular form of the
noun, not the plural form.

- wherearemymeds, on 10/05/2008, -2/+3Also, to brightlight and glassagate,
Activism like what Ayers did in the sixties, was the only way that anyone under the age of thirty or not wearing a suit and tie to work could get any respect from the govt.
At THAT time, activism was strong, coming off civil rights, women's rights, forced draft laws, etc.
Ayers and others were actually pretty popular with the young generation because they forced people to listen and had very few ways to build a strong grassroots organization without resorting to violence.
Ayers was not anti-American. Ayers was furious that the American government refused to tell us the truth, refused to respect the rights of ALL citizens and manipulated and lied about so much while they used shotguns on students, or simply refused to speak with anyone they didn't want to listen to.
I don't agree with violence, but it's also clear that Ayers figured that out a long time ago, and that a young man's righteous fury has matured into a thoughtful and thoughtprovoking man who's found a better way.
What the republicans are counting on is that anyone who actually remembers this stuff will be a diehard republican and that all that weren't around then, won't bother to find out what was really going on.
Back in the time that all this was actually happening, they were NEVER called terrorists.
They were called underground, protest group, violent activists, or demonstrators.
Anything else I can remember, give me a shout.
