Obama's Movement Gaining Momentum
fortunewatch.com — “We won north, we won south and we won in between, ” Obama told a roaring crowd, referring to his victories over Washington and Nebraska. “The Democratic Party must stand for change, not change as a slogan, change we can believe in.” This election is important, but, more than that, it is also interesting.

I don't usually do this but democracy is at stake. Please help me digg this up!- num3thod, on 02/13/2008, -3/+2That's a pretty good find actually.
- Gabberwok, on 02/13/2008, -0/+4It's not really relevant though - she could still win the primary. I don't think anyone is suggesting that Hillary Clinton would run on an independent ticket if she loses to Obama in the Democratic primary, which is what Lieberman did against Lamont.

- Ringding3, on 02/13/2008, -19/+5Why is the secret service so lazy when protecting him? They stand on either side of him with the hope of spoting a nutcase in the crowd when Obama's working a line. Put an agent in the crowd, 3 deep and 3' ahead of Obama. Make it a big agent and people will get out of the way. This would do more to protect him.
- ncairns, on 02/13/2008, -0/+11Right - I'm sure his SS detail is comprised of only two agents.
- Charlesbian, on 02/13/2008, -2/+5maybe he chooses to dismiss part of his detail or reorganize it to emphasize the personal connection he is basing most of his campaign on. Its kinda hard to come away with feeling like you intimately met the man when theres a 6'4" 230 pounder between you and obama
- krebcycle, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Obama does not control the secret service.

- QuantumBios, on 02/13/2008, -36/+7Good thing it won't take much momentum to drive this countries ' economy straight into the ground, which Bush started and obama would complete. Take your refund bribe and buy gold. Obama 08, ignoring our founders advice in exchange for a feel-good motto, economic ignorance, and herd mentality.
- Gabberwok, on 02/13/2008, -3/+11Gold is incredibly over-priced right now. If you're going to run to a commodity, try picking something that is less inflated by paranoia and fear.
- TomK88, on 02/13/2008, -3/+11Stop spouting sound economic advice! Just listen to whatever Ron Paul says!
- krebcycle, on 02/13/2008, -1/+1he says to buy silver liberty dollars! our economy will be saved! unless the justice department finishes mopping the floor with them, like they are right now..
- dagnome1984, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2It's clear you have no clue as to why gold has shot up so high. It's partly due to the currency, but the fact that China has a growing middle class that the demand for the resource has grown so much has eluded you.
- republicker, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1It doesnt matter what gold costs now. It matters what it will be worth when dollars are used to warm your house. I can assure you the people with gold will be the people with food and supplies.

- TomK88, on 02/13/2008, -2/+11I would love to hear why gold is a better investment than just sticking your money in a high-interest rate savings account? Or investing in bonds? Or even a stock index or a commodity that isn't overpriced?
- krebcycle, on 02/13/2008, -1/+3because those things require actual knowledge of real stuff, and they're scary
- dagnome1984, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1The return on those is lower than the true rate of inflation which is why gold is preferred.
- birdly, on 02/13/2008, -3/+9Smells like sour grapes in here.....
- orca94, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4How could you possibly know anything about economics if you can't even write English correctly? "Countries'" is the possessive for several countries, "country's," what you should have typed, is the possessive for a singular country.

- MoralCuntPiss, on 02/13/2008, -57/+3Sure, Obama may be a clean, young, good-looking black man, and voting for him may assuage some of the guilt you harbor about your latent racism, but ask yourself this: Given the current global political climate, do you really trust a Muslim like him to run our great land? I know how I answer that question, and I hope you do too.
- masterm1nd, on 02/13/2008, -1/+18For all the conspiracy theories floating around digg, you'd think there would be a trojan horse muslim one.
- felman87, on 02/13/2008, -1/+9That's the funny thing about conspiracy theories, they need to be plausible.
- AliasHandler, on 02/13/2008, -4/+14Dear MoralCuntPiss (obviously of superior intellect),
Obama is NOT a Muslim. Nice try though!
KTHXBAI- yuutokun, on 02/13/2008, -2/+2"kthxbai"

- yuutokun, on 02/13/2008, -2/+2"kthxbai"
- chicken101, on 02/13/2008, -1/+11Haha, Obama is a Christian, he went to a madrassa as a child- but that means "school" not "religious school". Why don't you do some research first?
- birdly, on 02/13/2008, -1/+15You fit the description of a terrorist more completely than any Muslim I've ever known.
- senatorpjt, on 02/13/2008, -3/+7Even if he were a Muslim, I figure it would just make it harder for all the Muslims to be pissed off at us. I don't particularly like Christians running the country either, but there isn't really a choice.
- krebcycle, on 02/13/2008, -0/+7there still isn't one, Obama is a Christian and he was raised that way in Hawaii
- dagnome1984, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2I bet he is an atheist. Of course that is just a rumor that was floating around. It would be nice to have an atheist as president, but that is not the only measure I use when choosing a candidate.

- bpacana, on 02/13/2008, -42/+3STOP!!! WAIT!!! BEFORE YOU VOTE FOR OBAMA!!! Nostradamus prophecised that the ANTICHRIST is named "MABUS"... The Mayan calendar is predicting the end will come in 2012 (well within Obama's term in office). I now present to you proof that the ANTI-CHRIST lives and the end of the world is at hand: http://www.barackobama.com/2007/05/22/mabus_to_adv ...>
OMG!- bpacana, on 02/13/2008, -26/+3Here's another doozy: OBAMABUSH Can you spot the name MABUS. ***** ME! IT'S EVERYWHERE! I'm gonna take a nice long shower to wash this dirt off.
- rmeddy, on 02/13/2008, -1/+13Yeah Nostradamus is not a good source for information
- nirav72, on 02/13/2008, -0/+7Oh my...I was waiting for republicans to start their mud slinging machine against Obama soon..but damn ,now we have these other whack jobs coming out of the bushes. Geez.
So tell me something bpacana..why does the Anti-Christ have to be a black guy?- bpacana, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1Obama is not the AntiChrist. He is simply a tool used by "MABUS" to achieve his goals.
- dagnome1984, on 02/13/2008, -1/+2This is satire people. Don't take it seriously.
- iainc, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3This is America. Bet your ass someone is bound to believe it.

- AliasHandler, on 02/13/2008, -2/+6Needs no explanation.
You=Asshat.
Good enough for you.- bpacana, on 02/13/2008, -6/+1i may be an asshat to you, but you still have no recourse as to why MABUS (the antichrist) revealed himself playing a big part on the political stage during a time when Dec. 21, 2012 (end of the world) is just within his reach. ;-)
- ncairns, on 02/13/2008, -2/+8Why don't I think it's plausible?
I suppose because I've never placed much faith in fairytales like your religion.- bpacana, on 02/13/2008, -8/+1I am not religious... I'm a believer. *padumpum*
- AliasHandler, on 02/13/2008, -2/+6Needs no explanation.
- darienphoenix, on 02/13/2008, -1/+9Actually, I was tempted to dig you up. This is far more entertaining than the standard Paulian "the Fed just prints more money", "our dollar isn't backed by anything", "international bankers are plotting to take over the world", "Zeitgeist was an awesome movie", etc.
- senatorpjt, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3So, you're claiming that the Antichrist is a retired governor from Mississippi?
- bpacana, on 02/13/2008, -5/+2It's plausible... being so close to the next president (obama) of the most powerfull nation on earth, and holding a high seat of power in middle east affairs... he could be whispering in obama's ear saying "PUSH THE BUTTON! PUSH THE BUTTON!". It's a stretch but yeah. ;-)
- Azio, on 02/13/2008, -2/+6It is NOT plausible that ANYONE is the Antichrist because the Antichrist is ***** superstition, just like Nostradamus "prophecies" and the Mayan calendar. You ***** yokel.
- bpacana, on 02/13/2008, -4/+2Oh noes! Me thinks I disturbed the hive of cynics and non-believers here. Gosh. Better go put my asshat back on.
- siszam, on 02/13/2008, -3/+2Only a fool says there is no God and since there is a God there is the devil. You are the one who sounds uneducated by calling people names and cursing. You are only smart in your own eyes.

- bpacana, on 02/13/2008, -4/+2Mark my words. Obama will become the 44th President of the United States... just because that sneaky little "MABUS" is on his side! LOL!
- bpacana, on 02/13/2008, -5/+2It's plausible... being so close to the next president (obama) of the most powerfull nation on earth, and holding a high seat of power in middle east affairs... he could be whispering in obama's ear saying "PUSH THE BUTTON! - samssf, on 02/13/2008, -13/+19Ok listen everyone. For every person that replies to this message with an intelligent reason why Obama should be president, I'll donate $1 to his campaign. Also, if you have your own fundraising link, post that and I'll use it to make the donation. Rational comments free of spelling mistakes, only, please.
- samssf, on 02/13/2008, -2/+5Actually, don't post links to your fundraisers. Donating a dollar for each transaction would waste a lot of money in credit card fees, so I will just tally up the comments and donate it all in one transaction.
- mikedeezy33, on 02/13/2008, -3/+27samssf - I could give you a plethora of reasons why Obama should be president, but I will limit this post to allow others to have a voice. The country needs a fiscally responsible president who will limit war spending and repair foreign relations with other countries, and Obama has a strong plan to accomplish this.
- justintsmith, on 02/13/2008, -1/+3i counted $3
- Aidje, on 02/13/2008, -7/+2But you nullify your own argument: "The country needs a fiscally responsible president…"
- dball48, on 02/13/2008, -27/+4for every dollar you donate to obama's campaign, I will kill one puppy.
- iofthestorm, on 02/13/2008, -2/+9Jerk.

He is very strong on technology issues. Promises to continue to address the issue of lobbyist influence as president.
- runCMD, on 02/13/2008, -6/+0You haven't been reading the news lately. He is now in the corporate elite for donations to his campaign. I'm surprised his 'rage against the white man' revelations from his book - or his admission to 'buying blow when he could afford it in his teens' didn't cause more people to question his character' ... does any of that make him bad - or mean he can't change with time - no. But it's not the kind of man I'd want to elect as my president. He has consistently shown in his pursuit of this office that he slips right in step with all that he publicly states he is against. Does THAT make him bad - no, it makes him human. It also demonstrates his inexperience and need to bake a little longer in the harsh light of DC.
One day - the dream this man has for America will come true. The light of change will shine from his lamp over this land. And the world will be at peace. Or not. It certainly won't end if/when he loses this bid for the office.

- shortjew, on 02/13/2008, -0/+0Obama only voted against the provision He, along with Hillary, didn't vote for the actual bill itself. I'd say they're both pretty busy right now.
- Pherdnut, on 02/13/2008, -6/+0I'm pretty anti-Hillary, but to her credit, she's a little busy right now.
- kingmanic, on 02/13/2008, -2/+5He is well spoken mixed race man who has a solid record for helping those less fortunate then him via his senate record as well as his professional life.
- samssf, on 02/13/2008, -1/+6My post was somewhat confusing. I am already a supporter of Obama. I simply would like people to explain why they personally think Obama should be president, and why they choose him over the other candidates. This is to display some reasoning to the viewers of this thread who don't currently support Obama.
- andergriff, on 02/13/2008, -9/+4Well, as president he might just make enough people realize that the federal government is essentially a leech. Then voters might realize that we're headed over the falls and start supporting libertarian candidates. Or he might be the best president since George Washington. But I wouldn't count on it.
- wilhoitm, on 02/13/2008, -9/+4O B A M A ! 2 0 0 8
- bitspace, on 02/13/2008, -0/+11I think the single biggest reason I support him is his commitment to an open government. He has committed to building a "Google for Government" system whereby all government contracts are fully open and available to citizens. Transparency in how the government conducts its business is a huge step in the right direction. (Obviously there would be some things that can't be made public - military operations, intelligence, information that would violate citizens' right to privacy.)
Senator Obama is a diplomat. He is more inclined to try the avenue of reasonable debate and discourse before resorting to weapons. This holds true in his work in both the Illinois State Senate as well as his work as Illinois' US Senator. He has effectively worked with Republicans to enact legislature that is good for his state. Rather than coming up with ways to "stand strong and fight the Republicans" his stated goal is to attempt to work with them to come to satisfactory agreements on issues, rather than work against them and further deepen the left/right divide.
Senator Obama supports net neutrality.
Senator Obama's health plan is to cut costs of health insurance to make it more affordable to everybody, and provide subsidy to those who can't afford it, without making it a requirement for all to purchase healthcare with threat of penalty if they choose not to purchase it.
Senator Obama's plan to withdraw from Iraq: withdraw one or two combat brigades per month, effecting complete withdrawal in 16 months. - InOmniaParatus8, on 02/13/2008, -2/+8Because if he becomes President we automatically change some of the foreign policy formula. Crazy right wing fundamentalist Arabic newspapers have been leading the charge against us with a pile of ***** 100 miles high for years. The moment the President of the United States of America is a black man named Barak Hussein Obama a good part of their ***** gets flushed and they have to come up with a new line of *****. No..it doesn't mean victory over terrorists or Wahabists but it does destabilize our enemy's PR campaign just a little.....and I love destabilizing the enemies of my nation!!! Hell, his first trip abroad should be to New Dehli. We get a little more chummy with India and Musharraf just might get serious about Al Queda and the bad boys in the northwest frontier.
- redtangential, on 02/13/2008, -8/+4I support Obama because he's like, so hopeful and represents change and stuff, because he is so charismatic and all the other people my age think he's the Messiah, and because I really don't want a woman to win.
- Stevo23, on 02/13/2008, -0/+5One big reason I like Obama is because he's very electable against McCain. By bringing in Independents and moderate Republicans, he will be better able to compete in the general election. Additionally, I think his ability to work across the aisle will make him a more effective leader once he is President. A lot of the Republicans in the Illinois State Senate (who know Obama pretty well as a legislator) respect him a great deal. I'm pretty sure one of them was even in one of his very early campaign ads. That's the kind of getting beyond petty party politics that this country needs.
- ax8284, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1I think it's funny because Obama constantly says over and over that he will need our help, and that its going to be a struggle. And still people cheer on and wave their "change" signs and hoot and holler and wear the Obamagear etc. And that's all good and I sure am glad that at least there's interest around something new. BUT do american's reaaally want change? are we going to be able to tear ourselves away from starbucks or oprah long enough to get her to a voting center in november? are we going to put down call of duty 4 long enough to volunteer at a homeless shelter or participate in a fundraiser for cancer? does anyone have the stamina to ride a bike or walk to work rather than take the ol wagon of fumes? will you take more advantage of public transpo or look deeper into cleaner ways to get around? will you bring new issues to attention and exercise your rights and respond to your civic duty just because Barack Obama inspired you? I sure hope so, because thats what he means when he says" I can't do it alone". He is the best candidate for president because he understands how important it is to engage the masses and force them to think, and research, and learn new things and take action on their own behalf. There is nothing more important than that. You can point to economics (frankly I like ron paul's economic approach better) and say hey obama's plan is missing links and perhaps isn't entirely feasible, or you can say that his foreign policy plan to "talk with our enemies" is silly and will not be taken seriously ( I actually think that it's reasonable and hell we have a word for it... think it's called diplomacy?), but the fact of the matter is if he can get america off its ass and out making an effort to take on responsibility the possibilities are incalculable. Its not about Obama it's about us and if it takes Obama to get what WE need then lets put him in the white house. There is no one else in this campaign that has the ability to get us to where we need to be.
p.s.- I think you should take the amount of people that comment, and double that number and donate.- ax8284, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1damn, I'm an idiot I meant to reply to the initial post. my bad. hope someone reads anyway.
- shortjew, on 02/13/2008, -1/+3I support Obama because of his inspirational ability. Yes, I agree with his health care plan that incorporates our system with subsidies and sets up a completly public system to work hand in hand to get affordable health insurance to everyone who wishes to have it, as opposed to mandating that everyone in the US must buy into Clinton's plan if one doesn't already have health coverage. I agree with his vote against the FISA immunity clause. He stands as an enabler of congress, with the ability to bring both sides of the aisle together, far far from the incredible polarization that comes with Clinton. He leads a political agena of reasonablility, and his honesty gives him more respect and authority than any underhanded, washingtonian tactics every would have.

3) He is fair minded and wont resort to dirty tricks, this gives me hope he wont deceive the general public.
4) He will be respected in the world and listen to Europe/Aisa.
5) He wont use 9-11 as a stick to beat fear into America.

Elect Obama, prove to the world while you are not perfect, you have the courage to set wrong things right pretty quickly
- noctu, on 02/13/2008, -8/+1how about voting on the issues instead of casting a vote for vanity reasons? don't get me wrong I would chose Obama over Hillary any day but not for how it makes me look!

- yellowsnowcone, on 02/13/2008, -33/+5Here is why I won't vote for Obama: He's a liar. He's a big fat liar. He lies to everyone. He's lying to right now.
If Obama gets elected, we will still be in Iraq. There will still be troops in Iraq. Mark my words. Yes, he voted against the war, but that doesn't matter. The big question is: whatcha going to do about Iraq?
We broke it. Now we's gotta fix it. And we can't leave Iraq till it's fixed. Plain and simple. If we left now, the US would look like even bigger a**holes than they already do. Credibility would be even further damaged. This is the problem facing anyone who claims we can simply pull out of Iraq.
And reducing troop levels? How does that make sense? Our troops are safer the more there are of them on the ground. Would you rather be one in an army of 10,000 or one in an army of 100,000? It's safety in numbers. Fewer troops leaves those remaining troops vulnerable.
Obama has been given a free ride up till now. But very soon, people are going to start pouncing on him, asking him the hard questions. Those are questions I'd like to hear answered. Because all we've heard so far is about his vote against Iraq. How he wasn't suckered by Bush. What I would like to hear is how he plans to fix someone else's mistake. It's not enough to point out that a mistake was made.
And Digg me down if you like. But unfortunately for you, there are a lot of other Americans out there wondering the same thing. And they'll be supporting McCain if Obama cannot adequately answer these questions.- mtrip, on 02/13/2008, -1/+8Yeah, they'll run to the "100 years in Iraq" guy I'm sure.
- Spektr4, on 02/13/2008, -1/+12Used to be people would object to the war because our soldiers are dying there for a lie. But sadly, that is not enough to cause it to end. The simple truth is, the US cannot afford to continue this war. I mean that literally. Cannot afford it. And THAT will be the reason why we have to get out. McCain is in fantasy land if he thinks we'll be there for years. What HE needs to explain is how he thinks we will pay for that.
The "surge is a success" argument is *****. We have yet to achieve any of the goals Bush laid out a year ago. The ONLY measure of success brought on by the surge is a reduction in violence. Nobody argued that violence wouldn't lessen with a greater troop presence. But have we actually achieved anything during this surge window? No. And we don't have the troops to maintain it. I want to see McCain ask a soldier personally, who has come back from his fourth tour of duty, to go back and start his fifth. - yellowsnowcone, on 02/13/2008, -6/+2There is a good article in Fortune magazine about the cost of the war and whether we can afford it. I won't rehash that here, but it basically says this war is affordable (although I'm sure you like myself would have preferred not to have spent the money this way). But cost cannot simply be the only deciding factor in terms of whether we walk away. The big factor is American credibility.
Leaving Iraq would not restore America's credibility. It would say Americans elect one president who makes a disastrous mistake. Then they elect another president who refuses to fix the mistakes of the previous president. I can't vote for that. I will only vote for the person who has the best plan for fixing what GW got us into in Iraq.
And McCain is right that we could be in Iraq for 100 years. We've been in Europe since the end of WII. We've been in South Korea for more than a half century after hostilities ended with the North. Why is Iraq going to be any different? The only time we haven't stuck around is Vietnam. But every major war the US has fought in the last 100 years, you can still find troops or a US presence there.
Anyway, it's a long way to November. And I hope Obama goes from the "I voted against Iraq" guy to the "I have a plan to fix GW's disaster" guy, and that plan can't be quitting on the Iraqi people.- senatorpjt, on 02/13/2008, -1/+5In any case, about 70% of the country disagrees with you on that. - ax8284, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1jeez, you're smarty pants. you should run for president! idiot. fortune magazine is wrong. this war is not affordable. this war is also not a MAJOR war. it wasn't supported by the UN it wasn't supported by the american people, congress didn't declare it a war. It is muscle flexing technique to show the middle east we will take what we want when we want and we won't answer to anyone for it. George Bush is very lucky that we have so many allies that also need oil. This isn't a board game. it's world politics and it's a VERY dirty game.

- shredluc, on 02/13/2008, -26/+4Sigh. I will never understand why Americans either vote for communism (democrats) or nazism (republicans). These political ideas are old and tired and never worked. Why do we not learn from our mistakes? I guess it's human nature to want to be ruled. We have not evolved enough to have freedom.
- AliasHandler, on 02/13/2008, -3/+10They are both far from communism and Nazism. Because one is left, and one is right, that doesn't necessarily make them the extremes of each end. Be realistic and don't throw those terms around when they aren't necessarily.
Either way, you have officially Godwinned this thread.
Good day, sir.- shredluc, on 02/13/2008, -4/+3Of course they are but what we have in America are neither republicans or democrats. I lived in eastern Europe when Soviet Russia fell and let me tell you i see more likeness between that communist government and the US federal government than what a dictionary defines as democracy or republic. Most people do not see the extremes until it is too late. The comparison is valid and it stands.
Godwinned the thread? I guess that always was a convenient excuse for people not wanting to accept the comparison as valid. In fact there is nothing wrong with such comparisons, and if you think there is, then please educate yourself about world history.- ncairns, on 02/13/2008, -4/+4No, you did not live in Eastern Europe when Soviet Russia fell.
No ***** way.
Compared to modern Europe, let alone Cold War-era Europe, the American political spectrum ranges from center-right to extreme-right. No one with experience with *actual* communism would EVER describe anyone on in American politics as a communist. My guess would be that you're a fifteen year old trying lend your naive, insane political beliefs - although the word 'belief' is much too generous - some passing credibility.- shredluc, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1Your belief is not necessary for my statement to be true. I am Polish and yes i was in Easter Europe when Soviet Russia fell. I moved to America as soon as i was able to leave that insanity. Oh and how dare you presume to know what people with communistic experience would claim. I sure as hell remember those times and i can sure as hell see that happening here. Back then we were just as ignorant with blinders on our eyes. The fact is that while we are nowhere near how it was in the 1980s in Russia, i sure don't want it to get to that point here.
- ncairns, on 02/13/2008, -4/+4No, you did not live in Eastern Europe when Soviet Russia fell.

- Spektr4, on 02/13/2008, -1/+11There is not a politician even close to communism in the conservative-skewed US. All modern democracies offer various blends of capitalism with socialism. The US is the most rightward of them all, and most democrats would be considered centrists elsewhere.
It's a sad day when you equate a non-mandated, parallel public/private health care system with "communism"--this is why we never make progress in the US.- shredluc, on 02/13/2008, -3/+2Your right of course. Everybody uses terms to their own benefit. You cannot deny that in any case socialism is the prevalent thought pattern in the world. It's unfortunate when "equality of results" is preferred over "equality of opportunity."
As to your health care comment, which came out of left field, the US health care system is funded by federal funds and is heavily regulated. The only thing missing from it becoming a fully socialistic system (with equal results for everyone, the results being abysmal) is if the plan either Obama or Clinton want to enact comes to fruition.- Spudster, on 02/13/2008, -1/+1Socialism corrects the inequality of privilege. While there are some legitimate, hard earning entrepreneurs who made a place for themselves in the world, many of the richest remain where they are due to privilege.
- shredluc, on 03/15/2008, -0/+1Well you must have missed the part i wrote about the "equality of opportunity". That means there is no privilege to take advantage of. In fact that is why America was so successful when first created. They left the privileged behind in Europe and came here, where everyone had an equal opportunity. Unfortunately socialists came along and try to push everyone having the same results. Great, that means i won't do a damn thing and get the same as the hardest working person in the country. Communist Russia tried it once, go ask them how it worked out.

So I decided that while this is a very beautiful song, it is essentially a communist manifesto. I hope that those who idealize it remain dreamers, instead of robbing me.
- wild, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1Dude, don't you listen to Blue Traveler?
"It doesn't matter what I say, only that I sing with inflection." Doesn't get more honest than that when it comes to popular music. (And I love John Lennon, genius artist. Just maybe a little too much yoko in his ono.)

- ridv34, on 02/13/2008, -15/+1***** HILLARY YEAH!!!
I wonder how many Obama bots are going to digg me up before they read this... - Mattarang, on 02/13/2008, -3/+7Seriously guys, can someone tell me why Digg loves Obama and hates Clinton so much? Not saying you should love or hate the other. It's just painfully clear that the majority of the Digg community seems to favor Obama and disfavor Clinton.
- AptToMiss, on 02/13/2008, -0/+15While I disagree with a lot of his views (mainly because I am a Libertarian), It seems like a lot of diggers like him because he's a good speaker, has an honest political record, and he appears to have a sound mind... Now Hillary on the other hand, her campaign is dishonest, her political career is racked with scandal (and no i'm not referring to what her husband did either). She typifies that old school oily politician, the kind of politician we put up with sitting in the Oval Office for the last 8 years, and almost no digger wants a repeat of that.
- douggmc, on 02/13/2008, -13/+5Because they are mostly lemmings ... following the rest of the herd over the cliff. They are enraptured by Obamas oratory ... yet seemingly oblivious to the fact that he has virtually no experience and never states his position on issues. Oh ... and I'll say it ... even though I'll be a racist for it ... the previously apathetic black community are mobilized and voting for him ... solely because he is black.
- AptToMiss, on 02/13/2008, -2/+8Look I understand 7 years in the Senate is not that much, but how is 8 years that much more??? I seriously don't get how people come off saying Clinton is much more experienced simply because she lived with Bill for 8 years... This was a question regarding the comparison of Hillary and Barack.
- Pherdnut, on 02/13/2008, -5/+3Obama has had truckloads of experience at the state level. And yes, you are a racist OP. Good job.
- rexblade, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Dont think its a racist thing he said are the majority of black people voting for him or not?
- Stupidumb, on 02/13/2008, -1/+1You're wrong: simply mentioning a person's skin color qualifies you as a racist.
- rexblade, on 02/13/2008, -0/+2Dont think its a racist thing he said are the majority of black people voting for him or not?
- ax8284, on 02/13/2008, -2/+1its funny when some white people get mad for being called a racist or considered a racist... even though they are. you'd also have to learn how to read to go to his website and read his position on "issues". Or you'd have to learn how to interpret a speech into ideas and concepts and position on issues... I mean I guess "I don't support the war in Iraq" isn't clear enough huh... well it does take a little intuition and intelligence to understand, and apparently that is way too much of a task for you to handle my friend. hey no hard feelings Bush will buddy up with ya.
- Stupidumb, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1WTF are you talking about? What comment are you replying to?
- Stupidumb, on 02/13/2008, -1/+1RON PAUL, STEVE JOBS, FLYING SPAGHETTI MONSTER, LINUX, WEED
- joelito, on 02/13/2008, -1/+8Personally, I don't like Hillary because of all the censorship She has been preaching for in TV and Video games while Obama clearly says that those things should be left to parents to decide.
- Spudster, on 02/13/2008, -1/+2Because Digg is a pure democracy subject to its excess. Obama is a very strong populist that fits very well with the type of voting format Digg is designed on. Populism is popular with young people, a generation that visits social media predominantly. It's the same reason why Ron Paul achieved so much popularity here even though most diggers actually disagreed with him on MOST policies.
Ask experienced political policy majors and they will tell that while they still may support Obama, it took them much longer to come to support Obama as they are cynical of 'empty' rhetoric with little behind it. Those who study sociology will take note that social movements like Obama's, while bringing little REAL change, are important to the health of democracy and society by giving the illusion of change. Such collective experiences help us define who we are in relation to society.
So even if Obama achieves nothing, his ability to inspire people should be credited as strengthening the social bonds between us and society. - wild, on 02/13/2008, -1/+4Because users of Digg and websites like it are part of an informed populace. And its not just Diggers he is inspiring. It is the generally wealthy and well educated, as well as the dreamers. The people who look to him with hope are those that understand who he is, what he stands for, and believe he is our best shot. They have the capacity to rationalize what might be and look at how Obama's former actions define what kind of President he should be. They have the reasoning to believe he will be a good president, and don't need a specific accomplishment by him that directly affected their lives as proof of it.
The voters who are pulling for Hillary are lower income, less educated, and supporting her because they can't believe in anything that they haven't been directly effected by. The Clinton administration did some good, tangible things back in the day, and Sen Clinton is riding on that. This is not a bad thing, it is just a different way of looking at the world. When you are working two jobs, or live in a community that feels disaffected, you're going to pull for the person who already did things to help you out. Its only natural. The proof is in the pudding type people, salt of the earth, and all the other hard working clichés. The other factor has been women who empathize with another woman in a "man's world."
Obama is an educated hope, Clinton is a past with proof. But the exciting thing about last nights results, he seems to be winning over some of her base. And thats the kind of thing his supporters have been saying he could for a long time. You're watching what we have been hoping for already starting to happen.- Mattarang, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1I see what you're saying. The wealthy and well-educated, as well as though just wealthy enough to be able to dream, find hope in Obama. Those just getting by in llife (and generally are more unhappy because of it) find promise with Clinton.
So, it's the difference between the devil you know (Clinton) versus the devil you don't (but promises something new)(Obama)? - Stupidumb, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1Perhaps it would be better if you answered Mattarang's question, rather than make vague generalizations.
To paraphrase: People like Obama if they are smart; they Clinton if they are dumb.
What is it about Obama that appeals to the smart people?
- Mattarang, on 02/13/2008, -0/+1I see what you're saying. The wealthy and well-educated, as well as though just wealthy enough to be able to dream, find hope in Obama. Those just getting by in llife (and generally are more unhappy because of it) find promise with Clinton.
- Jay123, on 02/13/2008, -2/+20Hillary was Bill's second choice... She should be our second choice too.
- CCSprinter11, on 02/13/2008, -7/+7Just saw him here in Madison. He's a spectacular speaker, but he says the same things in every one of his speeches. I think he needs some new material, then his campaign will really pull away from Hillary's.

- Kangalanatolian, on 02/13/2008, -2/+5What is Obamas position on the patriot act. Does it stay, or does it go?
- Stevo23, on 02/13/2008, -0/+3It goes. A lot of people will rant about he "voted for" the Patriot act, but that was the revised version and only after he'd gotten some of the worst parts of the original removed. It was a pragmatic compromise (Oh noes!). Ideally, he'd like to see it gone.
- wojtyk, on 02/13/2008, -1/+0Umm, ok...so if all the "worst parts" are removed, that means that whatever left is all peaches and sunshine, right?
There's a word for what he did. Politicians call it compromise. I call it selling out.
Instead of holding a hard line on his beliefs, he let that crap slip through again by trading favors.
How is that not despicable to you? Comparably, you'd never see Ron Paul pull that kind of crap.
It's that kind of wheeling-and-dealing that makes our political system as corrupt and dirty as it is.
