Obama Warns GOP "Lay Off My Wife"

abcnews.go.com — Sen. Barack Obama ripped into a Republican ad today that targets comments made by his wife, Michelle, and called the GOP tactic "low class" and "detestable." But if Michelle Obama is holding her own rallies, is very opinionated, and has direct access to Barack 24/7, why aren't her statements fair game?

    I don´t think that she has even opened her Botox-ed lips to say anything more than please and thank you and mmmm.... I love America... mmmm.... I really do.

    Ooops! Almost forgot: her only other verbal statement of any worth was that SHE IS NOT GOING TO RELEASE HER PERSONAL TAX RETURNS EVER. NEVER NEVER EVER EVER and nobody´s going to make me.

    She is just so above and beyond mere mortals... I wonder where she stashes the wings and the diamond tiara... oh, maybe they´re in a safe-deposit box with her vast collection of stolen prescription meds.

    Michelle Obama is a highly-educated and self-made woman who has risen above many social and financial disadvantages in order to get where she is today: a bright, charismatic, successful, socially-conscious, financially-independent mother of two young daughters on the verge of being First Lady. Her husband didn´t use her private jet to fly anywhere. Nor has he lived off her like a parasite and used her clout to rise in politics, as in John McCain´s case.

    Michelle will always tell it like it is, and I will thank her for that, and already have. She has released her tax returns and has given many a speech and an opinion. The most controversial ones may or may not be of some people´s liking, but she would be a huge asset to the Nation as a mind, a voice, and, above all, a strength and an example of class. Real class. Not the Cindy McCain I-couldn´t-possibly-put-my-foot-in-my-mouth-cuz-I´d-have-to-take-the-silver-spoon-out-first kind. Even then, she still managed to do it. Yep.

    So when John McCain wants to start throwing stones at people´s wives, he should start with his own first.

        IOW, the public has every right to know exactly who, when, and where he gets $$$ to run for POTUS. Even if it´s the Missus who gives it to him. ESPECIALLY, when they have a Pre-nup...

        He didn´t, and doesn´t, have enough of his own (minus her) to even think of being anything but just another retired military official living on a $50,000/year pension.

        With all due respects to all these retired servicemen, one of which was my grandfather.

          The problem is that she KNOWS that her business dealings represent conflict of interest matters that would be difficult to justify or even explain to the American public, and, considering that the consensus already out there in the field is that McCain can be bought and sold as long as the price is right.... Mmmmmm... Not looking too "up" for McBush come November.

          There is always a lobbyist in bed with John, huh? I bet Cindy´s tax returns accredit the fact that it is usually more like an orgy in which they both participate.

          You Cindy McCain band-wagoneers fear the same outcome for your candidate, and that´s normal, but this collective obstinacy is not in your favor.

          She is his spouse and an important financial supporter, and thus has double liability when voters judge both his character and his real connections with entities in the Back Room who speak in whispers when they cut the deals.

          It is a ***** excuse, and will come into the foreground more and more as the elections advance.

          Mark my word.

          You might convince me that it is all legally "cut and dried", but I would still continue to call this all a convenient pretext... And that´s just me. How are you going to convince millions of others who are undecided still as to a candidate and may not have the ability to understand what you are saying?

          So, with all due respect to the sophistication of your allegations, most people just won´t give a ***** and want to see the papers. Call me simple, but you severely misjudged my economic status. Odds are that you are kind of clumsy on making calls in other realms of life as well.

The question is, How is Michelle Obama going to influence policy? And in which direction will she influence it? Those are the major questions here.

      Barack is preaching a message of unity, and Michelle is preaching one of division. If John and Cindy McCain were similarly conflicted in their messages, then yes, put Cindy McCain in the spotlight.

      But, dirt-digging about personal stuff... who really cares?

      John McCain's "affair" occurred while he and his wife were essentially separated. Even she doesn't hold it against him.

      Cindy McCain didn't have millions invested in Sudan. She had $2 million "invested in funds owning stock in firms which reportedly did business with Sudan." And, even with that tenuous connection, she has since sold those holdings.

      The third point is true - she was addicted to painkillers in the early 1990s and resorted to stealing them from a medical charity she ran. And that affects John McCain how?

          It's wrong, but it's not unforgivable, and the fact that McCain's wife succumbed to addiction and broke the law doesn't mean that we should wonder whether he exercised poor judgment in marrying her. Instead, we should see the fact that he stood by her as strength of character. It's easy to discard someone who makes a mistake like that. The noble and loving thing to do is to stand by her, help her through it, and defend her against those who think this forever makes her a bad person.

          When a person makes the statement "classless hypocrites", common sense would indicate a degree of class on the part of the originator of such a statement.

          Receiving the support of those from a "family values" perspective generally requires an element of class as well as a degree of patriotism, not vulgarities or anti-American sentiments.

    IMO spouses of Presidents and Presidential candidates should mostly keep their mouths shut when it concerns anything really that important because they're not President/running for President. Alas, that's not so much the case anymore in American politics, except maybe with Laura Bush who really only ever talked about the importance of reading to children, which no one disagrees with, so you're going to see one's spouse brought into this much more. But it's the spouses themselves who are legitimizing these lines of attack.

She is out there holding her own rallies and making her own speeches and, yes, I think she is hoping to ride in on her husband's coattails like Hillary did and have a co-presidency! It is obvious who wears the pants in that family,,did you hear her tell him on the same interview that her girls were going to get a dog!?? (He wasn't for it!) She is probably the one to drag him to Rev. Wright's church, truth be known. The more she opens her mouth the more racists she comes off, oh, excuse me, blacks cannot be racists! And, while I am on a rant, we should be very concerned about the company they keep,,,Rezko, Wright, Ayres,,,to name a few!

    He is calling out FREE SPEECH right in front of our eyes. His wife isn't fair game? Wrong. His wife is and has been a huge part of his campaign from the very beginning. He wants to take away our freedom of speech and he hasn't even received his party's nomination!

    This guy is supposed to be the progressive candidate? This is supposed to be good for America? Think about that Obama supporters, is this what you really want for our country?
    Shift your support before it's too late.

I'm sure you're aware that she made this decision without first telling her husband, and that the couple have paid for dozens of operations to repair her palate and other medical problems.

      I'm sure you're also aware that she travels around the world with a detonation team to clear land mines.

      What a horrible woman.

      As to her drug issue: During 1992, Tom Gosinski, the director of government and international affairs for AVMT, discovered her drug theft. Subsequently in 1992, her parents staged an intervention to force her to get help; she told her husband about her problem, attended a drug treatment facility, began outpatient sessions, and ended her three years of active addiction.

      Looks like the woman fought her demons and won.

      Care to compare her record to Obama's when it comes to drug use?
