Obama is absolutely clueless as to the real problems in the economy. Creating more give-away schemes and increasing taxation will not help, it will cause the spiral to move down FASTER.
He spoke about the "trillion dollar war" yet he voted to fund it.
The entire thing was based on a flawed concept and remains flawed throughout.

Obama's plan in a nutshell:
Take money from the people that kept this country's economy somewhat stable. Give that money to those who went in over their head and helped create the fall.

Wouldn't it make more sense to give the break to the people that were able to make their mortgage payments? Then they would stimulate the economy, and a larger percentage of them would upgrade and get into a nicer home; therefore the housing market rises, there are more cheaper houses available, and best of all those that have proven to be better with their bills are much more likely to stay that way. Which means we would be much less likely to find ourselves in such a decline.

If you had a lot of money, would you rather lend it to someone that has a great record of paying it back, or lend it to the person that needs it the most? Now, picture you are the government. You are much more likely to see that money again if you give it to the people that will pay back loans to the banks. We shouldn't punish those that work hard for their money and are smart with it.

Plundering productive individuals in order to give hand outs to people who decided to live beyond their means is no way to secure economic prosperity.

There are two types of people in the world, people that understand economics and people that don't. Not a single one out of the three possible candidates has shown me that they understand Macroeconomics.

I'm glad he helped clear his plan up. Some people will still vote for him, knowing this. Aint it wonderful?

How about letting us keep more of our money and the getting government THE ***** OUT OF OUR LIVES as much as possible and letting us get on with it???

OK, so I skipped to the bullet points and two out of three of them are a bad idea. There should be measures taken to assure situations like this don't happen again, but point 2 and 3 don't support the first. You're just reassuring the idiots that screwed themselves that it's OK to go and spend more than they can afford.

Both Obama and McCain are either utterly clueless about economic matters or not letting on. Hillary is mute on the economy.

McCain wants says the answer is less regulation. Obama says the answer is more regulation. God, I want to scream! The root problem is government spending and reckless monetary policy. The dollar is down 40% versus foreign currencies in the last 7 years. The Republicans and the Democrats share the blame equally. Every presidential candidate remaining has voted to continue funding of the Iraq catastophe.

Sure, I would like to see some of the cats on Wall Street go to jail, but more or less regulation now will not help the economic mess one whit. The Fed must stop monetizing the government's debt. The only way to do that is to reduce the eliminate the deficit. But all the candidates, all three, want to spend, spend, spend. We need to cut, cut, cut. Start by closing 700 overseas military bases, and bringing all the troops home.

I'm still voting for President Ron Paul. As many of us may wind up in the bread line. At least I can say, "Don't blame me, I voted for Dr. Paul".

We're broke. Plain and simple. Sen. Obama noted the deficit spending, then blew right by it. It is the number one thing affecting our economy. It is why the dollar is in the toilet. It is affecting liquidity, which is limiting our effectiveness in dealing with the mortgage disaster. We're just plain broke and Sen. Obama said nothing about fixing that. I am disappointed. How could a major economic speech fail to address that?

personally I don't mind if the wealthiest Americans have to pay more taxes. worst case scenario is that they will have to tighten their belts and go for the new Porsche instead of the new Ferrari, which will be a tough pill to swallow but they'll muddle through somehow :[

McCain just secured victory in the presidential election without even doing anything.

I'd really love to see a serious candidate talk about The FairTax bill. 20% of our GDP is wasted every year in opportunity cost, wasted man hours, and business failures that are largely attributed to the ever increasing complexity of income tax law.
Get rid of all income taxes and the IRS and apply one tax on people at the consumer level. Suddenly it isn't as daunting to start a business because you don't need to be a master accountant to figure it out. Not only that, but if you get paid 60k a year you actually take home 60k a year.
FairTax would solve so many economic issues it isn't even funny.

Most things Obama says aren't my first choice but I at least believe they wouldn't be harmful. This is downright bad. I just started to become optimistic about this election, too :(

I never understood how all the support on Digg went from Ron Paul to Obama, then I figured it out. It was all about Iraq. Digg is mostly an anti-war community, and that's great because I'm 110% against Iraq too. The problem is Paul and Obama disagree on about 95% of all the issues, especially on gun rights and DC's role in the economy. Is Digg just starting to figure out Obama is a raging liberal? There's a lot more we need to worry about in November besides Iraq, and I'm sorry but I don't believe Obama is the right answer.

I guess instead of pulling that $30 billion out of his ass, he plans on forcefully removing it from the collective asses of the American people. But at least it's for a good reason I guess. Screwing over the taxpayer to bail out those who made irresponsible choices is okay, right? Or maybe not. I guess when Ron Paul said all the other candidates do is try "tinkering around with the system", he wasn't kidding.

To the extent Obama's plan removes the consequences of people's bad financial choices, he's encouraging bad choices.

Obama is the first serious candidate in a long time that doesn't sound like he's just saying what he thinks the average ignorant voter wants to hear. With him I no longer have to roll my eyes and say to myself "I hope he doesn't REALLY believe what he's saying...". I'm a 52 year old long-time Republican (so most of you won't trust my judgement), but this man is going to get me to finally vote in a presidential election, which I have been too cynical to do since I have been old enough to vote. And HE IS GETTING MY VOTE. The sociopathic lying bitch and the clueless war hero were almost enough to keep me cynical, but Obama has cured me. And, yes, I did read the whole speech, and the linked PDFs. God bless this great man.

I like Obama, but I dont like this plan as its not a real solution. Honestly, he & Ron Paul needs to get together & come up with something better.

I'm not a Paultard, but the man DOES know about sound monetary policies & cutting out the frivolous spending.
