nytimes.com — As Senator Barack Obama folded his arms and looked on, a retired Air Force general who is one of his leading military advisers forcefully defended Mr. Obama ’s patriotism Saturday and accused former President Bill Clinton of trying to use “divisive attacks” to promote his wife’s candidacy.

- semigloss, on 03/23/2008, -5/+3I couldn't possibly be more for Obama and against H. Clinton, but I find it difficult to believe that B. Clinton was seriously trying to suggest or imply that Obama isn't patriotic. Maybe that's naive, but I don't believe even the Clintons would sink that low. .... Of course, I recognize full well that I could be dead wrong.
- mainely, on 03/23/2008, -0/+7This is standard modus operandi for Clintons. Throw out a disguised insult, and then cry how dare you think I could have meant your interpretation. They know that passionate Obama supporters will strike back but in Clintonian politics they think that they won because the seed of doubt - Obama's patriotism - is being impregnated into the voters' minds.
